Tom Brady praises Panthers great Greg Olsen for broadcasting career

Greg Olsen’s replacement had some pretty high praise of Greg Olsen on Tuesday.

Tom Brady has just about every piece of hardware you can get out of playing in the NFL. But there’s one honor that the predecessor in his new job has that he doesn’t.

Carolina Panthers great and Emmy Award-winning color commentator Greg Olsen is expected to be replaced in FOX’s No. 1 broadcast booth by Brady starting next season. And the seven-time Super Bowl winner and three-time Most Valuable Player had a ton of praise for the former tight end on Tuesday.

“I think Greg’s done an incredible job,” he said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I have so much respect for him, how he approaches his job. He’s super-prepared in what he does. I think he does an incredible job every time he’s on. I love listening to him.”

Olsen began his full-time gig behind the mic in 2021, a year after retiring from the game. Since then, the franchise legend has gained critical acclaim for his work alongside play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt, who will be partnering up with Brady moving forward.

“And I’m just gonna go in there and do the best I can do with my own perspective,” Brady later added. “And I certainly have had a unique vision and perspective of the game of 23 years.”

Well, it doesn’t happen often—but the “GOAT” will have some pretty big shoes to fill.

Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen thought a ref’s correction was so funny after he messed up a penalty call

They spent SO MUCH time debating this play before the ref fixed his mistake.

It’s hard to remember sometimes, but the human element often comes into play when it comes to NFL officiating. We saw a delightful episode of this with referee John Hussey, who led the crew working the battle between the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns Sunday.

Late in the first quarter, the Browns were called for a facemask on a kickoff return. There was just one problem: It looked like San Francisco player Ambry Thomas was the one who actually committed the facemask infraction. This was a significant point of contention for Fox announcers Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen, who couldn’t believe Cleveland was being called for the penalty.

Burkhardt and Olsen debated so much, only to eventually be cut off by Hussey, who quickly corrected his penalty call to be on Thomas and the 49ers. The announcing duo thought this was hilarious:

This is what you get with the human element. Sometimes, you might have a brain fart on your initial penalty announcement. Kudos to Burkhardt and Olsen for showing a good sense of humor about it on air.

NFL fans totally loved Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen’s announcing during Super Bowl 57

Burkhardt and Olsen were lights out during their first Super Bowl.

With an instant classic Super Bowl in the books, we’re likely going to look back on the Kansas City Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles fondly. (So will Travis Kelce.)

Calling the game on FOX were Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen as the play-by-play and color commentator, respectively. It was the announcing duo’s first time calling the big game, and judging by the moment — they were absolutely terrific in the booth. Burkhardt built suspense well on big plays, while Olsen offered insightful analysis in between.

In reality, it was nothing different from any of the duo’s usual called games. As the saying goes: if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.

NFL fans really appreciated Burkhardt and Olsen’s announcing during Super Bowl 57.

NFL Week 2 announcers schedule revealed

What NFL announcers have drawn which assignments for Week 2?

We’re heading into the second week of the NFL season and there will be 16 games, starting with the Kansas City Chiefs playing host to the San Diego Chargers on Thursday. The schedule concludes with a Monday night doubleheader featuring the Titans against the Bills and the Vikings at the Eagles. Don’t forget the Thursday game is on Amazon Prime as it makes its debut.

NFL reveals Week 1 announcers schedule

Which announcers will be on which NFL games in Week 1?

The fun and games — fun? — of the preseason are done. This time it’s for real as the NFL kicks off its season at SoFi Stadium as the Los Angeles Rams raise their Super Bowl banner and play host to the Buffalo Bills. The announcers have changed networks the way players jump from team to team this offseason. They have their assignments and it will be fun to watch to see if they all remember who is signing their paychecks.

Broadcast team set for week one vs Green Bay

The Vikings scored FOX’s number one team for week one

The Vikings have had their fair share of different broadcast teams over the years. One of the games that has relative consistently is when they play the Green Bay Packers.

More often than not, the game is a featured one on either Fox or a primetime matchup on ESPN’s Monday Night Football or NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

Opening up the season on September 11th, the Vikings host the Packers in Fox’s Game of the Week, drawing their number one broadcast crew.

Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen step in for Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. They had held the top spot for Fox since 2002 when they replaced Pat Summerall and John Madden.

Not only is it a big game for the Vikings, but it will be a national audience at 3:25 central time.

FOX Sports reveals lead NFL broadcast team

Kevin Burkhardt, Greg Olsen, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi are FOX Sports’ new No. 1 NFL team

FOX Sports on Tuesday made it official: The network, which will broadcast Super Bowl LVII, has a new No. 1 broadcast team.

With Joe Buck and Troy Aikman off to ESPN and Monday Night Football, FOX has handed the keys to the lead broadcast booth to Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen.

The sidelines will be patrolled by Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi.

The team makes its regular-season debut on Sunday, Sept. 11, from Minneapolis, as the Minnesota Vikings host the Green Bay Packers in an NFC North showdown

Olson was honored and ecstatic.

Of course, Olsen is keeping the seat warm until Tom Brady decides to officially retire.

The official press release:

NEW YORK – FOX Sports – the most-watched NFL network – names three-time NFL Pro Bowler Greg Olsen as this season’s lead NFL analyst, joining renowned play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt in the booth. Veteran reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi, along with trailblazing rules expert Mike Pereira, round out the team as they prepare for the network’s top regular and postseason games – culminating with FOX’s 10th all-time Super Bowl presentation.

“We’re thrilled to have this team steward our industry leading and award-winning coverage as we embark on our 29th NFL season, highlighted by our 10th Super Bowl,” said FOX Sports President of Production/Operations and Executive Producer Brad Zager. “Last season, Kevin and Greg showed viewers their undeniable chemistry and ability to call football at an elite level. We can’t wait for fans to see what they’re going to bring to AMERICA’S GAME OF THE WEEK, the NFL Playoffs and Super Bowl LVII.”

… Although Burkhardt and Olsen are no strangers to the NFL’s championship game – Burkhardt having previously called three Super Bowl world feeds and Olsen serving as an NFL studio analyst for FOX Sports’ coverage of Super Bowl LIV in Miami – Super Bowl LVII will be the first time they each call the national broadcast, respectively.

Panthers great Greg Olsen promoted to FOX’s lead broadcast team

Former Panthers TE Greg Olsen is going back to the Super Bowl! But this time, he’ll be wearing a headset instead of a helmet.

Greg Olsen’s last trip to the Super Bowl came as a Carolina Panthers tight end in 2016, and didn’t go the way he probably wanted it to. But maybe his next one will.

As reported by New York Post sports media columnist Andrew Marchand on Thursday, Olsen has a deal in place to join the lead broadcast team for Fox Sports’ NFL programming. That, of course, places the ex-pass catcher in line to call Super Bowl LVII alongside play-by-play partner Kevin Burkhardt on Feb. 12, 2023.

Olsen and Burkhardt’s promotion will fill the void left behind by the previous No. 1 duo of Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, who are both off to call ESPN’s “Monday Night Football.”

2021 was Olsen’s first year in the booth, where he immediately shined in his new digs. The 37-year-old, however, will likely see 2022 as his only campaign atop the ranks at Fox—as Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady will take the spot next to Burkhardt upon his retirement.

(Tom Brady ruining everyone else’s good time, huh? What else is new?)

Regardless, Olsen will be behind the mic for the biggest game in all of professional sports. And wouldn’t it be fitting if the NFC’s representative in this season’s Super Bowl is the Carolina Pan . . . sorry, couldn’t get through that one seriously.

Greg Olsen to partner with Kevin Burkhardt on FOX Super Bowl broadcast

Who will be Kevin Bukhardt’s broadcast partner in the 2022 season and Super Bowl?

Thankfully, that broadcasting mystery has been solved … or resolved.

While Tom Brady is Kevin Burkhardt’s future partner as the No. 1 NFL team for FOX Sports, the GOAT is still playing.

That means the network, which has two of the next three Super Bowls, needed to find a partner for Burkhardt, who replaces Joe Buck as the network’s top NFL play-by-play voice.

That role will go to former NFL tight end Greg Olsen, reports The New York Post. Olsen takes the spot of Troy Aikman, who left FOX for ESPN with Buck.

Olsen moving up opens the No. 2 analysts spot on the NFL games for the network. The Post suggests a big name could be filling the void.

With Burkhardt and Olsen being promoted, Fox now has an opening for its No. 2 team. Drew Brees is a candidate for that job, according to sources, as he and NBC are set to break up after one season (though Brees denied that they are officially over).

Joe Davis and Adam Amin are the favorites for the No. 2 play-by-play job.

The 2023 Super Bowl is scheduled for Feb. 12 in Glendale, Az.
