Why Tom Brady and Kevin Burkhardt aren’t calling an NFL game for Fox on Sunday in Week 13

There’s a good reason for this.

If you’re watching any of the NFL games on Fox on Sunday in 2024 Week 13, you may notice an absence: There’s no Kevin Burkhardt or Tom Brady on the mics anywhere for the network.

Why is that the case?

There’s a very good reason: the two of them called a Thanksgiving game earlier in the week, specifically the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys contest, so it wouldn’t make sense for them to do it again on Sunday.

So the top Fox broadcast team gets the weekend off, and we’ll see them next week on one of the biggest games in Week 14.

There’s your answer!

Here’s what goes into Derrick Henry’s incredibly strict diet, according to Tom Rinaldi

Derrick Henry is very disciplined in his football diet.

(This story was updated because an earlier version included an inaccuracy.)

Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry is one of the best players of his generation, and his extremely disciplined diet sounds like a big reason as to why.

On the Fox Sports broadcast of Baltimore’s game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Fox’s Tom Rinaldi went through the diet restrictions that Henry puts on himself to maintain his form and athleticism.

“[Henry] spends more than a quarter-million dollars on what he calls body maintenance,” Rinaldi said on the game broadcast.

According to Rinaldi, Henry’s football diet includes requirements like:

  • No fried food
  • No dairy
  • No gluten
  • No artificial sugars
  • Henry doesn’t eat until 4 or 5 in the evening, unless he maybe has a banana or avocado before practice

It takes real commitment to adhere to that strict a diet, but it’s clearly working for Henry as he continues his strong NFL play as a Raven this season.

Tom Brady’s first NFL announcing booth interaction with Mike Pereira was so awkward

Tom Brady looked so uncomfortable here.

We should’ve known that Tom Brady would probably be a lot more nervous than we thought for his NFL announcing debut during Sunday’s matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns. Yes, even all-time NFL legends need patience to be comfortable with a new big job.

And we should’ve seen it coming from a mile away after an awkward first booth interaction with Fox rules analyst Mike Pereira.

As Fox’s No. 1 announcing team featuring play-by-play Kevin Burkhardt, Brady, and Pereira set the table for their matchup, Brady couldn’t have been more awkward saying hello to Pereira. First, he flashed him a random thumbs-up when Pereira glanced in his and Burkhardt’s direction.

Then, Brady held out his hand for a fist bump, with Pereira not even looking, leaving him hanging for an uneasy amount of time.

Truly, it was a masterclass in anxiousness:

Ah, man, everything about this clip is giving me secondhand embarrassment.

This trio will probably get a lot better as the season goes on. But it’s abundantly clear they’ve got to work on their internal chemistry a lot more than we saw in Week 1.

Tom Brady praises Panthers great Greg Olsen for broadcasting career

Greg Olsen’s replacement had some pretty high praise of Greg Olsen on Tuesday.

Tom Brady has just about every piece of hardware you can get out of playing in the NFL. But there’s one honor that the predecessor in his new job has that he doesn’t.

Carolina Panthers great and Emmy Award-winning color commentator Greg Olsen is expected to be replaced in FOX’s No. 1 broadcast booth by Brady starting next season. And the seven-time Super Bowl winner and three-time Most Valuable Player had a ton of praise for the former tight end on Tuesday.

“I think Greg’s done an incredible job,” he said on The Pat McAfee Show. “I have so much respect for him, how he approaches his job. He’s super-prepared in what he does. I think he does an incredible job every time he’s on. I love listening to him.”

Olsen began his full-time gig behind the mic in 2021, a year after retiring from the game. Since then, the franchise legend has gained critical acclaim for his work alongside play-by-play man Kevin Burkhardt, who will be partnering up with Brady moving forward.

“And I’m just gonna go in there and do the best I can do with my own perspective,” Brady later added. “And I certainly have had a unique vision and perspective of the game of 23 years.”

Well, it doesn’t happen often—but the “GOAT” will have some pretty big shoes to fill.

Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen thought a ref’s correction was so funny after he messed up a penalty call

They spent SO MUCH time debating this play before the ref fixed his mistake.

It’s hard to remember sometimes, but the human element often comes into play when it comes to NFL officiating. We saw a delightful episode of this with referee John Hussey, who led the crew working the battle between the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns Sunday.

Late in the first quarter, the Browns were called for a facemask on a kickoff return. There was just one problem: It looked like San Francisco player Ambry Thomas was the one who actually committed the facemask infraction. This was a significant point of contention for Fox announcers Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen, who couldn’t believe Cleveland was being called for the penalty.

Burkhardt and Olsen debated so much, only to eventually be cut off by Hussey, who quickly corrected his penalty call to be on Thomas and the 49ers. The announcing duo thought this was hilarious:

This is what you get with the human element. Sometimes, you might have a brain fart on your initial penalty announcement. Kudos to Burkhardt and Olsen for showing a good sense of humor about it on air.

NFL fans totally loved Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen’s announcing during Super Bowl 57

Burkhardt and Olsen were lights out during their first Super Bowl.

With an instant classic Super Bowl in the books, we’re likely going to look back on the Kansas City Chiefs’ 38-35 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles fondly. (So will Travis Kelce.)

Calling the game on FOX were Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen as the play-by-play and color commentator, respectively. It was the announcing duo’s first time calling the big game, and judging by the moment — they were absolutely terrific in the booth. Burkhardt built suspense well on big plays, while Olsen offered insightful analysis in between.

In reality, it was nothing different from any of the duo’s usual called games. As the saying goes: if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.

NFL fans really appreciated Burkhardt and Olsen’s announcing during Super Bowl 57.
