NBA Twitter reacts to Kenrich Williams’ extension

Kenny hustled his way onto a second contract

The Oklahoma City Thunder extended Kenrich Williams to a four-year, $27.2 million extension on Monday.

Williams has grown into a fan favorite player that also has fans inside the team. Williams’ teammates and coach constantly spoke glowingly about him throughout his first two seasons with the Thunder.

The reaction to Williams being locked up with the Thunder for the next five seasons was generally a positive one as he has proven to be an undrafted gem that signed a relatively cheap deal that is easy to move if needed to.

Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets that reacted to the Williams news.

Thunder sign Kenrich Williams to four-year, $27.2 million deal

Kenny Hustle is here to stay.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have extended forward Kenrich Williams to a four-year, $27.2 million deal, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The deal is set to begin in the 2023-23 season. Williams is currently set to make $2 million for the 2022-23 season.

Williams was set to enter unrestricted free agency next summer if a new deal was no agreed upon, now the 27-year-old is locked up with the Thunder for the foreseeable future.

The Thunder acquired Williams in the Steven Adams trade as a throw-in piece and has emerged as a solid veteran role player who is a respectable outside shooter.

The team continuously talked highly on Williams throughout his first two seasons with the Thunder and said he is a locker room leader. Williams stated multiple times last season that he’d like to retire with the Thunder and this extension makes that dream that much closer to achieve.

In two seasons with the Thunder, Williams has averaged 7.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 39.1 percent on over two three-point attempts per game in 115 contests.

Mock trade has Sixers acquiring reserve Kenrich Williams from Thunder

A new mock trade has the Philadelphia 76ers acquiring reserve Kenrich Williams from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Philadelphia 76ers are in the middle of trying to get everything together and push themselves forward in the 2022 offseason and properly contend in the 2022-23 season. While they have some issues that need to be addressed, the biggest one will be taking care of a bench unit that has struggled in a lot of different moments.

The team does need some wing depth, but another issue is rebounding. The Sixers struggled in that department in some games and they could go with some help there for their bench unit which should be the focus at this point with the starting lineup being as strong as it is.

A mock trade from The Rights to Ricky Sanchez has the Sixers acquiring Kenrich Williams from the Oklahoma City Thunder who can provide some offense and some physical play.

Bleacher Report suggests a trade that would send Kenrich Williams to the Bucks

Kenrich Williams only has one more year left on his current deal.

Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz released an article recently that suggested one trade idea for all 30 NBA teams. The Oklahoma City Thunder were involved in two such trade proposals. The first one included the Thunder trading Kenrich Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Rayjon Tucker, 2022 second-round pick and a 2023 second-round pick.

“At 6’6” and 210 pounds, few players made a bigger defensive impact than Williams this past year, with the Thunder surrendering a whopping 13.5 fewer points per 100 possessions with him in the game. That figure ranked in the 98th percentile among all NBA players, per Cleaning the Glass.

Tucker is a 24-year-old shooting guard who has a better chance at minutes in OKC, with the Thunder ultimately making the trade to collect on the two second-round picks.”

Williams only has a year left on his current deal, but has stated his desire of retiring in Oklahoma City multiple times this season. The Thunder should ideally decide Williams’ future with team — whether with an extension or trade — instead of letting him enter a contract season.

Tucker, who went undrafted in 2019, hasn’t done much in his three seasons in the league. Being 24 years old already probably dampers any excitement of further development as well. The real prize of this trade scenario would be the two second-round picks.

2021-22 Thunder player grades: Kenrich Williams

Handing out a final grade for Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kenrich Williams’ 2021-22 regular season.

(Editor’s note: We are starting individual grades for all players from the 2021-22 Oklahoma City Thunder. To access other reviews as part of this ongoing series, click here.)

With the 2021-22 regular season now officially in the books, the Oklahoma City Thunder (24-58) finished their season with the fourth-best lottery odds. This means it is now time for individual player grades for all 26 players who suited up for the team this season during the 82 games. The grades will be determined by what the season expectations were for each player and how they lived up to them.

The fifth player in the installment is Kenrich Williams, who completed his fourth season. Williams stayed on the Thunder past the trade deadline despite reported interest from multiple playoff teams and stated that he wants to retire in Oklahoma City.

One thought about every Oklahoma City Thunder player after the 2021-22 regular season

A big thought for all 16 players on the roster as the Oklahoma City Thunder head into the offseason.

The Oklahoma City Thunder concluded its 2021-22 regular season with a 24-58 record. With the season now behind us, let’s take a look at the roster and give one thought about each player’s season and future.

For this exercise, it will include just the 15 players on the roster and just one of the two-way players; I am excluding Melvin Frazier Jr. from this list as he will most likely not be on the roster to start next season. This means that none of the 10-day guys who were on the roster in the final week of the season will be included as their chances of making the roster next season are close to zero. Let’s take a look at one quick thought about all 16 players currently on the roster.

OKC Thunder quotes: Some players believe the team could make the playoffs next season

It’s interesting how the loudest voices for making the playoffs a goal next season are the ones who are looking for a new contract in the near future.

During Monday’s Oklahoma City Thunder exit interviews, several players spoke about playoff aspirations for next season. The Thunder missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season after going 24-58 and finished with the fourth-best lottery odds. The Thunder last went to the playoffs less than two calendar years ago in The Bubble during the 2019-20 season, where it lost in seven games in a First Round series against the Houston Rockets.

Let’s take a look at some of the more significant quotes from players who showed their full confidence in the team’s ability to make the playoffs next season if fully healthy.

OKC Thunder quotes: Biggest takeaways from Thunder Exit Interviews

Here’s a list of some of the most noteworthy quotes and paraphrased from today’s six-hour-long exit interviews.

The Oklahoma City Thunder held its exit interviews on Tuesday. The team’s 2021-22 regular season came to a conclusion this past Sunday with a 50-point loss against the LA Clippers. The Thunder finished the season with a 24-58 record and with the fourth-best lottery odds.

This was the first time the likes of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Josh Giddey and Lu Dort spoke with the media in some time as all three have dealt with variosu injuries, so let’s take a look at what some of the more noteworthy quotes and paraphrases were from this six-hour long process that included Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault and 14 players. The only players who didn’t speak were Mike Muscala and Vit Krejci.

OKC Thunder news: Mark Daigneault provides injury updates on Kenrich Williams and Derrick Favors

Mark Daigneault provided injury updates on Kenrich Williams and Derrick Favors on Thursday.

Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault noted during Thursday’s post-practice presser that Derrick Favors — who has been out since essentially the All-Star break sans one game due to lower back soreness — will not return for the remainder of the regular season and that Kenrich Williams — who has been out since before the All-Star break due to a knee sprain — is doubtful to return for the remainder of the regular season.

With just six games left in the season, it doesn’t make a ton of sense to rush either back as both are older players who are developed for the most part. The Thunder will finish out the season by playing exclusively young talent that had extensive G League minutes earlier this season.

OKC Thunder player grades: Giddey, Mann shine in MSG win over the Knicks, 127-123

The rookie guards had their best games of the season with the lights shining the brightest at MSG

Wow! What a great game for the Oklahoma City Thunder. You know, the entire point of this season is to lose as many games as possible to have as high of lottery odds they can possibly get. But when the Thunder win games like this — off the backs of their young players — it’s really hard to complain about the win and how it makes the team’s lottery odds a little bit worse.

The Thunder were able to enter the Mecca of Basketball and leave with a win over the New York Knicks, 127-123, in overtime as they shatter the hearts of the home crowd. The trio of Josh Giddey, Tre Mann and Darius Bazley combined for 81 of the Thunder’s 127 points. The rookie guards were phenomenal this game as Giddey and Mann each had their best games of the season by far with Giddey getting a 28-point triple-double and Mann scoring his first 30 piece of his career.

In terms of the Knicks, Julius Randle also finished with a 30 point, 13 rebound and 10 assist triple double and Evan Fournier added 29 points.

This was a very fun win for the Thunder as its top two rookies had their best games of the season while another one of its young pieces also had a great game as he turns the other corner of his season. Let’s take a look at player grades.
