5 takeaways from Colts’ 27-13 win over the Panthers

Here are five takeaways from the Week 9 win.

The Indianapolis Colts (4-5) put an end to their three-game skid with a road victory over the Carolina Panthers (1-7).

It was a slow start with both teams going three-and-out on their opening drives and the Panthers punting it on their first three series of the first quarter. The Colts offense seemed to figure things out with three straight scoring drives to create a 13-3 lead late in the second quarter.

That’s when Kenny Moore II opened the game for Indianapolis. A pick-six right before halftime gave the Colts a 20-3 lead. Little did we know, that play by Moore II would prove to be vital to help keep Carolina at bay.

The Indy offense completely struggled in the second half. The Panthers were able to bottle up the rushing attack and Gardner Minshew was extremely ineffective with his arm to help keep drives alive.

Thankfully for Shane Steichen and his staff, the defense stepped up after giving up a touchdown to Carolina on their opening drive of the second half to make it a 20-10 game.

On the following drive for the Panthers, their offense was getting into scoring position and Moore II once again got his hands on the ball for his second pick-six of the game. That one pretty much put the game out of reach with Carolina’s offense burning too much time on a field goal drive and Bryce Young throwing his third interception on the following drive for their offense.

This wasn’t a pretty win for the Colts but as they say, a win is a win. Here are five takeaways from the matchup:

Colts’ player of the game vs. Panthers: CB Kenny Moore II

Kenny Moore II was the stopper against the Panthers.

The Indianapolis Colts (4-5) worked their way toward a 27-13 victory on the road over the Carolina Panthers (1-7) on Sunday at Bank of America Stadium.

While it was a solid effort from the defense as a whole, cornerback Kenny Moore II is the easy decision as our recipient for the player of the game nod.

Moore took two interceptions back for touchdowns in this win, becoming the first player in franchise history to do so. The last time a player in the NFL did it was Week 2 of the 2021 season when Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Mike Edwards accomplished the feat against the Atlanta Falcons.

Moore’s two interceptions wound up being the difference in the game. His first came just before the end of the first half when he undercut an out route by Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard.

It gave the Colts a 20-3 lead going into halftime.

Moore then put a stop to the Panthers offense as they were trying to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter. When Bryce Young sailed a screen pass, Moore was right there for the interception.

The Panthers did their best to drag Moore down but once he got going, it was another easy touchdown return, this one going for 66 yards.

Moore ended the day with eight tackles (seven solo) while adding a few key run stops. As the Colts prepare for their trip to Germany, Moore continues to be a star leading the defense.

Panthers fans react to Bryce Young’s second pick-six to Colts CB Kenny Moore II

It happened again.

Just when the Carolina Panthers looked like they were back in Sunday’s slugfest against the Indianapolis Colts, quarterback Bryce Young tossed another pick-six. Oh, and it was to the same exact guy.

With the score at 20-10 and almost a whole fourth quarter left to play, the Panthers trekked their way down to the Colts’ 34-yard line. But Young, while looking for running back Miles Sanders on a screen, found the hands of cornerback Kenny Moore II for the second time on the day—who put up six more points on a 66-yard return.

Here’s how the Carolina fans are dealing with the backbreaking turnover:

Bryce Young must have not gotten the memo that this was a revenge game for his coach Frank Reich as the Carolina Panthers played host to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft was off-target, finding Colts DB Kenny Moore II twice. Moore returned each interception for a touchdown.

The first one covered 49 yards.

The second pick-six was good for 66 yards.

Reich coached the Colts for years before losing his job last season and eventually being hired by the Panthers.

Kenny Moore II grabbed his first pick-six since 2020.

Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II has been enjoying a bounce-back season, and he continued that strong campaign with a pick-six against the Carolina Panthers in Week 9.

As the Panthers were trying to get into field-goal range just before the end of the first half, Moore perfectly jumped a route by running back Chuba Hubbard. He took the interception 49 yards for a touchdown, giving the Colts a 20-3 lead going into halftime.

This was his second interception of the season and the second pick-six of his career.

The Indianapolis Colts (3-3) lost their second game against the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) on Sunday down at TIAA Bank Field by a 37-20 score.

Despite leading after their first drive, Indianapolis could never find a consistent rhythm and put forth their worst performance of the season.

And after showing some brief life in the fourth quarter, Indianapolis looked lost and not ready to play for the division lead.
