Geno Smith takes offense to Kenny Mayne joke on Twitter

The Seahawks quarterback did not seem to appreciate Mayne’s snappy comment.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is rather active online, especially on the social media platform Twitter…. and what would Twitter be without a bit of drama. On Wednesday, a video of Smith working on his throwing motion was tweeted by quarterback coach Quincy Avery, of which Smith subsequently quote tweeted.

The video is clearly to demonstrate Smith’s throwing mechanics, but given the fact Smith appeared to throw the ball in the opposite direction of the imaginary, non-existent line of scrimmage, Seattle sports personality Kenny Mayne made a quick joke about online. Smith did not seem to appreciate Mayne’s snappy comment.

However, it appears Mayne is taking Smith’s comment in stride. Mayne responded to Smith’s tweet with one of his own, and one in support of the Seahawks quarterback.

3 things we learned from Aaron Rodgers’ interview with Kenny Mayne

Not a lot, but hmmm.

You knew that even if Aaron Rodgers was going to do an interview with Kenny Mayne on the final SportsCenter of the ESPN legend’s career at the network that the Green Bay Packers QB wasn’t going to say much about the drama swirling around him.

And he didn’t! But you got a little peek inside his head, and it feels like there are some people within the organization he’s not happy with, something we might have known. It’s still unclear who those people are, but as you’ll see, it’s just clear that he’s unhappy with the franchise, and it’s not just because of one draft pick or something like that.

Here are a few things we took away:

Kenny Mayne asked Marshawn Lynch about aliens and the former RB’s answer was so good

Marshawn is the best.

Kenny Mayne’s final appearance on SportsCenter was Monday night and he finished his incredible run at ESPN in style with a number of really fun interviews with athletes and then a perfect goodbye at the end.

While his conversation with Aaron Rodgers was great, especially how Mayne ended it with a F-bomb, his chat with Marshawn Lynch was highly entertaining.

Mayne brought up aliens which lead to Lynch talking about how he would interact with them if they landed on Earth. He said he would “politic with them for a minute and see what they’ve got going on.”

This is a fun 30 seconds:

We are all just movin and groovin here on planet Earth.

Kenny Mayne’s dry and witty goodbye in his final ‘SportsCenter’ on ESPN was perfect

So long to an ESPN legend.

You knew the moment that Kenny Mayne announced he would no longer be at ESPN by the end of May that he would deliver his final words on the network he’s called home for decades with his usual dry wit.

He didn’t disappoint.

After finishing an interview with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers with a hilarious “[Expletive] you,” Mayne took his final seconds on SportsCenter to talk about his first days at ESPN, the trouble he had with a computer and his first ESPN2 segment he struggled with.

Then: “Thanks for having me, thanks for having electricity.” Just like that, he walked off.

If you’re saying, “That’s so Kenny Mayne,” you’d be right. And it was perfect.

Kenny Mayne hilariously ends epic Aaron Rodgers interview by telling him ‘[Expletive] you!’

LOL.

Aaron Rodgers was the star of many a “Mayne Event” on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown with Kenny Mayne.

So it was only fitting that the Green Bay Packers (for now?) quarterback came on Mayne’s final SportsCenter for an interview, even in the midst of the drama swirling around him and the only NFL franchise he’s called home.

It was 1-on-1 chat that covered so many different topics, but we’re focusing here on how it ended: Mayne said their last interview ended with Rodgers telling the legendary ESPNer to invest in cryptocurrency. He did.

“We’re down 40 percent,” he added, “then I lost my job, Gretchen just wants a new comforter, [expletive] you Aaron Rodgers.”

Then he walked off. Rodgers, of course, laughed, because that’s just so Kenny Mayne:

Too funny!!

Why did Aaron Rodgers break his silence on SportsCenter?

Why did Aaron Rodgers appear on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” Monday night?

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has spoken.

Don’t get all in an uproar. the NFL great did not say anything about his current situation. He made an appearance on ESPN “SportsCenter” Monday night as it was host Kenny Mayne’s final show.

So, what did Rodgers say?

And Mayne got in a classic parting shot — in jest — as he closed the interview. Mayne said Rodgers suggested he get into cryptocurrency, he lost his job and you can list to the rest below:

Kenny Mayne sent ESPN the most legendary cover letter that landed him his anchor gig in 1994

Talk about confidence!

The sports world was beside itself on Monday after Kenny Mayne announced his departure from ESPN due to being what he called a “salary cap casualty.” The longtime SportsCenter host and media personality had been part of ESPN’s anchor team in one way or another for the last 27 years, and his departure hit hard for many sports fans.

While this is just the latest in a long line of departures from ESPN and in the sports media world as a whole, Monday did provide the opportunity for fans and fellow colleagues to reminisce on some of Mayne’s best moments. Included in that was this incredible tidbit from Mayne’s former ESPN colleague Don Van Natta Jr about how the longtime SportsCenter host landed the gig.

Apparently, when inquiring at ESPN about a possible job, Mayne sent this legendary checklist note as a cover letter of sorts, all but assured he’d get the position.

Now that is some incredible confidence in oneself and one’s abilities! You don’t often see that type of cover letter cross your feed nowadays.

I like how Mayne gave ESPN a few different options here, from hiring him on the spot to getting back to him if ESPN5 ever became a thing.

Not only was this note what landed him his start at ESPN, it also made longtime TV host John Walsh smile with his creativity! What a story, and what a career for Mayne.

Sports fans were disappointed to learn about Kenny Mayne’s departure from ESPN

More talent leaves.

ESPN has seen its share of turnover over the years — whether it be mass layoffs or personal moves — and today’s ESPN looks far different than the ESPN of even five years ago.

That continued to be true on Monday.

In a tweet, longtime SportsCenter anchor and personality Kenny Mayne announced that he would be leaving ESPN because of what he called a “salary cap casualty.”

Mayne had been with ESPN for 27 years and was known to bring a unique comic relief to both the traditional SportsCenter presentation and his own personality-focused segments. The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that ESPN did make an offer to renew Mayne’s contract, but it was at a pay cut.

With the announcement, sports fans offered well wishes to Mayne as ESPN’s talent took another hit.

A prescient State Farm ad with Kenny Mayne had everyone fooled during ‘The Last Dance’

This stopped everyone in their tracks.

Everyone’s buzzing about the premiere of The Last Dance, the ESPN documentary focusing on Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, and with good reason. We got so many good moments, from a wild story from 1984 to “former Chicago resident” Barack Obama.

But there was also a bizarre commercial that had viewers tweeting like crazy: a State Farm spot that took an old school SportsCenter clip with a seemingly “Deepfake” version of Kenny Mayne (I’m guessing the real Mayne dubbed some new audio) “predicting” the future, that ESPN will eventually make The Last Dance in 2020.

Check this out. It’s a really good ad:

Here’s some of the reaction:
