Raheem Mostert out, Tyler Huntley third QB vs. Seahawks

Newly acquired Tyler Huntley will only be available to play Sunday if both Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle get injured.

The Miami Dolphins will be without running back Raheem Mostert in a Week 3 game against the Seattle Seahawks, the team officially announced Sunday ahead of kickoff.

It’s no surprise as Mostert, along with sixth-round rookie wide receiver Malik Washington, were both listed as doubtful to play. Those two are joined on the list of inactives by the recently acquired Tyler Huntley, who is listed as the emergency third quarterback and can only play Sunday if both Skylar Thompson and Tim Boyle get injured.

The other four players — Ethan Bonner, Channing Tindall, Mohamed Kamara, and Andrew Meyer — have been healthy scratches in each of the first three weeks of the year.

For the Seahawks, the most notable name on the list of inactives is running back Kenneth Walker III.

Walker, along with former Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker, was listed as doubtful to play against Miami. Not on the list of inactives for Seattle is pass rusher Boye Mafe, who was questionable for the game.

Week 3 inactives: Kenneth Walker ruled OUT for 2nd-straight game

Week 3 inactives: Kenneth Walker ruled OUT for 2nd-straight game

We are 90 minutes away from kick off between the Seattle Seahawks and the Miami Dolphis. Seattle, sitting atop first place in the NFC West, will look to improve to 3-0 against a Dolphins team without their starting quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa. However, they will have to do without star running back Kenneth Walker III once more.

Walker, who missed the Week 2 game against the New England Patriots, was a non-participant in practice this past week. Although he was listed as DOUBTFUL on Friday’s injury report, head coach Mike Macdonald made it sound as if he truly wasn’t likely to play. It appears Macdonald’s words have been proven true, as Walker is officially OUT for this afternoon.

Seahawks Inactives

Seahawks Week 3 injury report: Kenneth Walker DOUBTFUL vs. Miami

Seahawks Week 3 injury report: Kenneth Walker DOUBTFUL vs. Miami

The Seattle Seahawks are set to face off against the Miami Dolphins at home, but it appears they will likely be without their star running back. For the final injury report of the week, Kenneth Walker III is listed as DOUBTFUL. Head coach Mike Macdonald said Walker had “progress” but still does not give a good outlook for him to play on Sunday.

Additionally, it appears right tackle George Fant is going to be ruled OUT for Week 3 as well. Initially, Fant appeared as DOUBTFUL, but Macdonald declared they were going to downgrade him.

Macdonald did give a bit of good news regarding linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, as he said he is optimistic their top pass rusher could play in Week 4 against the Detroit Tigers. Seattle’s defensive front has been making life difficult for quarterbacks, but adding NWosu back into the mix would be a considerable boost.

The full injury report can be seen below.

Ruled Out:

  • LB Uchenna Nwosu – Knee
  • RT George Fant – Knee

Doubtful:

  • LB Jerome Baker – Hamstring
  • RB Kenneth Walker III – Oblique

Questionable:

  • S K’Von Wallace – Shoulder
  • TE Pharaoh Brown – Foot
  • LB Boye Mafe – Knee
  • WR Laviska Shenault Jr. – Foot

Can Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet bounce back vs. Dolphins?

Can Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet bounce back vs. Dolphins?

Seattle Seahawks sophomore running back Zach Charbonnet received the opportunity to start in place of the injured Kenneth Walker in last Sunday’s overtime victory over the New England Patriots. Charbonnet was not particularly effective. The former UCLA standout was limited to 38 yards and 2.7 yards per carry via 14 rushing attempts. He did score a touchdown, but play-to-play consistency wasn’t there.

Charbonnet also encountered little running room to operate with in Week 1. Though he worked as a change-of-pace option in that game, he managed just 12 yards, 1.5 per eight carries. Charbonnet scored a receiving touchdown, but ground-game effectiveness remained elusive.

Charbonnet is seemingly going to receive his second consecutive opportunity to start. Workhorse back Kenneth Walker hasn’t practiced all week and appears primed to miss his second straight game with an oblique injury. Barring a surprise, it’ll be Charbonnet carrying the workload versus the Miami Dolphins in Sunday’s Week 3 affair.

https://twitter.com/FieldYates/status/1836911673073897857

The Dolphins defense has enjoyed middling results versus the run. First-year defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has watched his unit allow a 15th-best 118 rushing yards per contest. That indicates they possess the advantage over the Seahawks’ 24th-ranked rushing attack (96.0/game).

Charbonnet hasn’t completely seized his chance to start in place of Walker, but he has managed touchdowns in back-to-back games. Another opportunity looms large versus a competent Dolphins defense on Sunday. It’ll be worth monitoring if Charbonnet fares better.

Seahawks Week 3 injury report: Kenneth Walker still not practicing

Seahawks Week 3 injury report: Kenneth Walker still not practicing

The Seattle Seahawks ar enow entering into a full calendar week of injury reports featuring their star running back, Kenneth Walker III, not practicing. Walker blew up the Denver Broncos’ defense, but suffered an oblique injury in the fourth quarter. Apparently, it has turned into something considerably more serious than we thought.

The good news is Leonard Williams, and Boye Mafe, who did not participate in practice, were limited on Thursday. DK Metcalf was listed as a full participant himself. This is a good trend for three of Seattle’s most important players to be active come Sunday.

Grant DuBose sits Thursday, 3 Dolphins limited ahead of Week 3

Terron Armstead returned to the Dolphins’ practice field Thursday and wide receiver Grant DuBose sat out.

The Miami Dolphins were without just one player, wide receiver Grant DuBose, in their Thursday practice ahead of a Week 3 road game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Offensive tackle Terron Armstead, running back Raheem Mostert, and wide receiver Malik Washington were all limited in the session.

https://www.twitter.com/WingfieldNFL/status/1836910034380275832/

Earlier Thursday, Armstead told reporters that he’ll play Sunday with a shoulder brace after leaving the Dolphins’ Week 2 loss due to the injury. While he sat out practice Wednesday and returned a limited basis Thursday, the concern is the added knee designation on the latest report after he was only listed with a shoulder issue the day prior.

For the Seahawks, not much changed on their lengthy report with running back Kenneth Walker III again sidelined with an oblique injury. Linebacker Boye Mafe, defensive lineman Leonard Williams, tight end Brady Russell, and former Dolphins linebacker Jerome Baker all returned to the practice field Thursday after sitting out Wednesday.

Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III listed as DOUBTFUL for Week 2 vs. Patriots

Seahawks RB Kenneth Walker III listed as DOUBTFUL for Week 2 vs. Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks are about to take their first road trip of the season this weekend, as they are headed to Foxboro, MA to play the New England Patriots. Both teams are 1-0, with the Seahawks defending home turf against the Denver Broncos and the Patriots upsetting the Cincinnati Bengals on the road.

Seattle engineered a dominant second half comeback to avoid another Week 1 loss like last year, but it looks like an important cog from their victory won’t be available to them against New England. Running back Kenneth Walker III is officially listed as DOUBTFUL in Week 2, alongside right tackle George Fant.

Other injury report related matters have linebackers Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker listed as QUESTIONABLE. Tight end Pharaoh Brown and linebacker Uchenna Nwosu have already been ruled OUT.

Not having Walker or Fant will be a considerable blow to a Seahawks offense that was wildly inconsistent last week. Walker paved the way with 103 rushing yards and a touchdown to get Seattle going in the second half. As for Fant, his absense would leave an already shaky offensive line even more depleted. The Seahawks did make proper adjustments in the second half to give Smith more protection and open things up on the ground, but it was a rough start for the unit overall.

The Patriots may not be a playoff team this year, but they are still a stout defensive team and can drag opponents down into the mud with them. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will once again have to get creative to help avoid Seattle from losing their first game this season.

Can Zach Charbonnet carry load for Seahawks if Kenneth Walker misses Week 2?

Can Zach Charbonnet carry load for Seahawks if Kenneth Walker misses Week 2?

Seattle Seahawks starting running back Kenneth Walker III missed his second consecutive practice on Thursday. Walker is day-to-day, per head coach Mike Macdonald, with an oblique injury. His participation for Sunday’s Week 2 game versus the New England Patriots is in legitimate doubt.

If Walker is ruled inactive, Zach Charbonnet would receive the start in Seattle’s backfield. Kenny McIntosh would be elevated to No. 2 duties. Charbonnet is capable of carrying a heavier workload. In two starts for Walker last year, he totaled 157 yards and a TD on 38 touches.

Admittedly, Charbonnet struggled to run the football efficiently in the Week 1 victory over the Denver Broncos. The former UCLA standout rushed for just 12 yards via eight carries, averaging an ineffective 1.5 yards per carry en route to a Pro Football Focus rushing grade of 48.0. Charbonnet did make a big-time impact in the second half via a 30-yard receiving touchdown.

Walker was electric on the ground versus the Broncos, rushing for 103 yards and a TD via 20 carries. Occasions like this are exactly what the Seahawks drafted Charbonnet with a second-round pick for despite already having Walker. Charbonnet needs to take on larger responsibility when given the opportunity.

The Patriots defense qualifies as a difficult matchup. They allowed a third-best 70.0 rushing yards in a surprising Week 1 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Pay close attention to Walker’s practice participation on Friday. It could indicate whether Charbonnet is getting the first-team nod or not.

Seahawks Week 2 injury report: TE Noah Fant a full participant

Seahawks Week 2 injury report: TE Noah Fant a full participant

The Seattle Seahawks are getting ready to play the New England Patriots in Week 2. Unfortunately, their injury report is considerably longer than it was in Week 1, and there was not much change from Wednesday to Thursday when it came to player participation or not.

The one improvement is the fact tight end Noah Fant went from being limited in Wednesday to being a full participant in practice on Thursday. Unless a major setback were to happen, it’s clear Fant is on track to play in New England this weekend.

The full injury report can be seen below.

Did Not Participate in Practice:

  • WR Tyler Lockett – Thigh

  • CB Riq Woolen – Hamstring
  • CB Tre Brown – Quadricep

Full Participation:

Gimme Him: Kenneth Walker would give Patriots two-headed RB monster

Kenneth Walker III in Alex Van Pelt’s offense would be fun

The New England Patriots are set to take on the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, and the Seahawks have multiple offensive playmakers.

Running back Kenneth Walker III is one playmaker in particular who intrigues Patriots coach Jerod Mayo. Walker has been a key component of the Seahawks offense, and he is this week’s “Gimme Him” player.

Walker had a monster game last Sunday against the Denver Broncos. He carried the ball 20 times for 103 yards and a touchdown. He did so efficiently as well, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

For his career, he has 467 carries for 2,058 yards and 18 touchdowns. The Michigan State product was a valuable piece of the offense for the Spartans, and that talent has clearly translated to the NFL.

Walker would be the perfect fit for the Patriots for several reasons. For one, he can complement Rhamondre Stevenson well. The Patriots have employed a run-first offense to start the year. Walker would be able to give Stevenson breaks when necessary without any drop-off in production.

Secondly, he is a workhorse. He has tallied over 200 carries in each of his first two seasons in the league. With this type of offense, the Patriots would be able to utilize both the durability and workload at a high level. This could come in handy especially later in the season, when fatigue sets in.

“I don’t know what his Madden rating is but …. this guy pops off the film,” said Mayo, via the Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan.

https://twitter.com/_AndrewCallahan/status/1833889898190754270

This is all in fun and entertaining to think about.

Walker would be the perfect fit for an offensive system that is built with a more old-school approach, such as the one in New England.

He would give the team a legitimate second running back threat and allow them to operate their offensive scheme at a higher level. With that said, the reality remains that he is going to be a major weapon that the Patriots’ defense will need to stop on Sunday.
