The Seahawks had trouble reaching Michigan State running back Ken Walker by phone when they were on the clock in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft. While they didn’t actually need to get ahold of him to make the pick, it’s customary for teams to reach out and let players know they’re getting selected in advance.

General manager John Schneider and the rest of Seattle’s front office had issues reaching him, though – all of their calls went straight to voicemail as they were on the clock. Ken Walker has now shared his side of the story. Here’s what happened.

NFLPA Rookie Premiere shows first look at Ken Walker in full Seahawks uniform

However, Walker has an exceptional athletic profile and was arguably the best back in this class.

Every year the NFLPA selects a couple dozen first-year players to feature at their Rookie Premiere, which is intended to promote the most marketable stars from each year’s draft class.

The Seattle Seahawks have one pick that made the cut: former Michigan State running back Ken Walker, who was one of the team’s two second-round selections. Here’s your first look at Walker in a full Seahawks uniform (he’s second on the left in second row).

Seattle’s selection of Walker has been righly criticized by many in the media because using early picks on running backs is generally considered a poor way to build a roster in the modern NFL.

However, Walker has an exceptional athletic profile and was arguably the best back in this class. We expect him to perform very well at the next level. His first challenge will be a doozy, though – he’ll have to beat out Rashaad Penny to play meaningful snaps and Penny finished the 2021 season as the hottest and most-productive rusher in the league.
