Former Oregon linebacker and wide receiver announce transfers to Washington State

Former Oregon linebacker and wide receiver announce transfers to Washington State

Former Oregon Ducks linebacker Keith Brown, out of Lebanon, has announced he is coming back to the Pacific Northwest with the Washington State Cougars.

Brown was a Duck from 2021-22 before transferring to Louisville for the 2023 season. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for Brown as he had an injury-riddled season where he played in just four games and just had one tackle.

Moving back home, so to speak, and playing for the Cougars, Brown will be looking to resurrect a once-promising career.

As a Duck, Brown played in 18 games with 36 tackles, one for loss.

He’ll also be joining receiver Kris Hutson in Pullman, who also announced he is transferring to WSU. In his four seasons a Duck, Hutson caught 80 passes for 936 yards and scored two touchdowns.

Former Oregon LB Keith Brown to enter transfer portal once again

Former Oregon Ducks linebacker Keith Brown announces that he will leave Louisville and enter the transfer portal again.

One of the rather surprising additions to the transfer portal last year was Oregon Ducks linebacker Keith Brown, a native from the state who had just spoken to media members days before about his commitment to the team, and his intention to stay in Eugene and not enter the portal.

Instead, the former No. 1 player in the state of Oregon ended up transferring to the Louisville Cardinals, where he played in just four games a had 1 total tackle on the season. On Thursday, Brown announced that he would once again be entering the transfer portal and looking for a new team.

With the new transfer rules put into place, Brown will not have to wait for a year to play at whatever new school he chooses, despite this being his second transfer.

As a recruit, Brown was rated by 247Sports as the No. 107 overall player in the nation, and the No. 14 linebacker.

Report: Linebacker Anthony Jones expected to enter the portal

Anthony Jones is the latest Oregon Duck to enter the transfer portal.

According to a report form Matt Zenitz of On3.com, Oregon Ducks redshirt freshman linebacker Anthony Jones is expected to leave the program and enter the transfer portal.

It’s just another hit to the linebacker depth chart for the Ducks, as they’ve seen players such as Keith Brown and Justin Flowe already leave and find new homes.

Jones wasn’t expected to be a big part of the 2023 season as Oregon has linebackers Jeffrey Bassa, Jestin Jacobs, Jamal Hill along with unproven players like Devon Jackson, Harrison Taggart, and Elijah Williams already looking to make an impact.

Jones was one of the top athletes in Nevada when he was recruited from the 2021 before coming to Oregon where he utilized his redshirt season last year.

Former Oregon linebacker Keith Brown transfers to Louisville

Former Oregon LB Keith Brown announced that he will be transferring to the Louisville Cardinals.

Oregon Ducks linebacker Keith Brown sent a bit of a shock to the fanbase by announcing that he was entering the transfer portal on the afternoon that it opened earlier in April.

After spending two seasons in Eugene, and growing up as an Oregon boy, there was a thought that Brown was on the precipice of breaking out for the Ducks and playing a bigger role for the 2023 season.

Instead, Brown opted to look for a new school. On Tuesday night, Brown announced that he would be transferring to the Louisville Cardinals.

At Oregon, Brown played in 19 games, wracking up 36 tackles and one sack. He had a strong finish to the 2022 season, notching a career-high 7 tackles in the Holiday Bowl against North Carolina. Brown also addressed the potential that he could transfer just days before his ultimate decision, saying that he had no intention of leaving Oregon and that he wanted to be a Duck.

Notable quotes from Dan Lanning after Ducks’ 9th spring practice

“I think we’ve got a lot of football players that can play. I think we’re having more depth, especially defensively right now, than we did last year.”

There has been some roster movement for the Oregon Ducks over the past few days.

With the team holding its first spring scrimmage of the year, Dan Lanning and the coaching staff got their first really good look at what some of the players can contribute in a game situation. Afterward, there were a handful of players who opted to enter the transfer portal, looking for a place where they likely have a clearer path to playing time. There are also a number of offers that the Ducks have reportedly made to players in the transfer portal since it opened on Saturday.

On Tuesday after practice, we got a chance to talk to head coach Dan Lanning and get an update on where things stand after the ninth practice of the spring season. Here are some of the most notable quotes from that interview.

Updated list of linebackers for Oregon to consider in the transfer portal

With Keith Brown gone, the Ducks could stand to add another LB to the mix. Fortunately, there are some great options in the transfer portal.

Even before linebacker Keith Brown announced over the weekend that he would be entering the transfer portal and leaving the Oregon Ducks, linebacker was a position of relative need for Dan Lanning’s defense.

While you have a lot of talented players, there isn’t an exorbitant amount of depth. With guys like Jeffrey Bassa, Jestin Jacobs, and now — without Brown — Jamal Hill leading the way, and unproven players like Devon Jackson, Harrison Taggart, and Elijah Williams behind them, it’s easy to see that the Ducks could stand to add a player or two to the LB room.

That was the case before Brown entered the portal, and it’s been turned into a more dire need since the roster move.

Fortunately for Oregon, there are a number of really solid options available in the transfer portal. While more players will continue to enter the portal and eventually come off of the board, the Ducks will likely reach out to a handful of guys who they think can improve their roster instantly.

Here are some players that I think the Ducks might try and target.

Major takeaways from Oregon’s spring scrimmage, Day 1 transfer portal activity

It was a busy day for the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, with a scrimmage and some transfer portal activity. Here are some notes to walk away with.

A lot happened on Saturday in the Oregon Ducks football world.

The morning started with Dan Lanning and the Ducks going through their first scrimmage of the spring season, taking place inside Autzen Stadium with select fans in attendance. The day ended with a trio of Oregon players announcing that they would be entering the transfer portal and leaving the Ducks.

A lot took place in between.

While media members were not allowed into the scrimmage to watch the team play, I have gotten the chance to talk to several people who were in attendance, and have some takeaways from the information that I’ve gathered.

There are also several takeaways to be had from comments made by Lanning and TE coach Drew Mehringer, as well as the transfers that took place later in the day.

We’ve got a lot of ground to cover, let’s get into it.

Twitter Reaction: Duck fans react to trio of players entering transfer portal

A trio of Ducks entered the portal on Saturday afternoon, which led to some shocked Oregon fans.

The transfer portal officially opened up on Saturday in the world of college football, and Oregon Duck fans sure took notice.

In the hours following Oregon’s first spring game of the 2023 spring season, a trio of notable players announced that they would be entering the portal and leaving Eugene.

Among the three, the most surprising was arguably linebacker Keith Brown, a native Oregonian who was seemingly in line to see a significant role on defense this season. Just a couple of days ago, Brown told media members how much playing at Oregon meant to him, and explained that the love for the Ducks was why he had not entered the portal thus far in his three-year career.

The other two players to enter the portal — CB Jalil Tucker and DT Treven Ma’ae — also came as somewhat of a surprise for Duck fans.

A lot of Oregon fans and media members took to social media after the fact to react to the personnel moves for the Ducks. Here are some of the best tweets from the afternoon.

Jalil Tucker becomes third Duck to enter transfer portal on Saturday

Former 4-star CB Jalil Tucker to enter the transfer portal after redshirting in 2022.

The transfer portal officially opened up again on Saturday in the world of college football, and the Oregon Ducks certainly noticed.

It was a busy afternoon following the Ducks first scrimmage of the spring season. Jalil Tucker, a redshirt freshman cornerback, announced via social media that he would enter the portal and look for a new team. Tucker was one of three Ducks to do so on Saturday, joining LB Keith Brown and DL Treven Ma’ae.

Tucker is a former 4-star recruit who came to Eugene as a high school teammate of CB Jahlil Florence.

After the trio of departures, the Ducks are down to 88 scholarship players on the active roster.

Oregon linebacker Keith Brown enters the transfer portal

Once a top recruit out of Oregon, Lebanon’s Keith Brown has decided to leave the Ducks and enter the transfer portal.

In a surprising move, linebacker Keith Brown has decided to continue his college career away from Oregon. The junior from Lebanon, Ore. was going to have significant playing time in 2023, so this announcement was quite the eye-opener.

Coming from just about 50 miles north of Eugene, Brown was a top recruit out of Oregon when he committed to Oregon while Mario Cristobal was the coach.

Brown was credited with 36 tackles, 18 solo, and a sack for his career. In 2022, he played in 12 of the 13 games and started the Holiday Bowl against North Carolina where he set a career-high with seven tackles, four of them solo.
