Chiefs sign Kareem Hunt to 53-man roster, waive Keaontay Ingram

According to a report from ESPN’s Field Yates, the Kansas City #Chiefs signed Kareem Hunt to their 53-man roster and waived Keaontay Ingram.

According to a report from ESPN analyst Field Yates, the Kansas City Chiefs officially signed veteran running back Kareem Hunt to their 53-man roster on Tuesday, September 24.

To make room for Hunt, the Chiefs waived third-year back Keaontay Ingram, who was signed after Isiah Pacheco was placed on Kansas City’s injured reserve list last week.

These moves come after rookie running back Carson Steele’s outstanding performance in the Chiefs’ victory over the Falcons on Sunday Night Football.

Hunt is set to enter his second stint on Kansas City’s 53-man roster after initially entering the league as the Chiefs’ third-round pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Kansas City released Hunt in 2018, and he spent five seasons with the Cleveland Browns before landing on the Chiefs’ practice squad last week.

It is unclear what role Hunt will play in Kansas City’s offense when the Chiefs face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, but fans should expect to see the former Toledo Rocket in action at some point during the regular season.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid reveals expectations for recently elevated running back

Kansas City #Chiefs head coach Andy Reid reveals expectations for recently elevated running back Keaontay Ingram | @EdEastonJr

The attention to Kareem Hunt’s return to the Kansas City Chiefs has momentarily made many forget that a running back is urgently needed to play against the Atlanta Falcons this Sunday. Hunt isn’t ruled out as an option, but the franchise added a running back to the active roster on Wednesday.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid explained to reporters on Wednesday his decision to elevate running back Keaontay Ingram from the practice squad shortly after signing veteran Kareem Hunt.

“He (Keaontay Ingram) had a really good camp for us. (We) felt comfortable with him moving up. Like I said, if you’re moved up, you’re expected to be ready to play, and I think he’s done that.” said Reid. “He’s worked hard on the scout team part of it, stayed in tuned with the offense (and) he’s in all the meetings, so felt he was ready for that.”

Ingram began his career as a sixth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in 2022. He played in 20 games with Arizona, tallying 62 carries for 134 yards and a touchdown. Ingram joined the Chiefs practice squad in late November last season but did not play in a regular-season game until potentially this Sunday.

Chiefs make key roster moves ahead of Week 3 matchup vs. Falcons

The Kansas City #Chiefs made several roster moves on Wednesday ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta #Falcons.

The Kansas City Chiefs made a handful of roster moves on Wednesday ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football.

In a post to Twitter, the Chiefs’ official account announced that the team had signed running back Keaontay Ingram and linebacker Cole Christiansen, who played for Kansas City in the preseason.

In addition to the acquisitions of Ingram and Christiansen, the Chiefs also announced that they had signed tight end Peyton Hendershot and running back Kareem Hunt to their practice squad.

Finally, the team announced that they placed star running back Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve.

The addition of Hunt was the most surprising move of the bunch and has a chance to mix up Kansas City’s backfield after Pacheco’s injury against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Stay tuned to see where all these players fit in Andy Reid’s game plan for the Chiefs’ matchup against the Falcons.

Cardinals cut RB Keaontay Ingram, DL Ben Stille, practice squad O-lineman

The 2022 sixth-round pick saw his spot in the rotation get taken by Emari Demercado and Michael Carter.

The Arizona Cardinals announced three cuts on Tuesday, the team’s day off. After being deactivated on Sunday and not playing a single offensive snap the previous week, second-year running back Keaontay Ingram was released.

With rookie Emari Demercado returning from a toe injury, the Cardinals had three healthy backs to go with James Conner and Michael Carter.

Ingram struggled this season when given snaps. In 35 rushing attempts, he gained only 74 yards (2.1 yards per attempt).

Ingram started the season as Conner’s primary backup.

The former sixth-round pick out of USC averaged 2.2 yards per carry with one touchdown on 64 attempts in two seasons with the Cardinals.

In addition to cutting Ingram, the Cardinals also cut defensive lineman Ben Stille from the active roster and offensive lineman Austen Pleasants from the practice squad.

Stille’s release suggests perhaps an expected return to the lineup of defensive lineman Kevin Strong, who missed the game on Sunday against the Rams with a knee injury. Another move on the defensive line will likely occur in the days to come.

Stille, if he clears waivers, will likely be re-signed to the practice squad, where he has been for part of the season.

Cardinals players to watch in Week 7 vs. Seahawks

Here are the individual players to watch in Week 7 for the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals play on Sunday on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. They hope to snap their three-game losing streak and pick up their first road win of the year.

In this game, our eyes will be on a few players in particular.

Who and why?

We explain it below.

James Conner’s injury puts spotlight on young RBs

Keaontay Ingram and Emari Demercado will get the first opportunity to shoulder the load of the running game with James Conner out.

The Arizona Cardinals have a new challenge offensively. They have had to adjust to a new quarterback with Josh Dobbs. Now they have lost running back James Conner for at least the next four weeks, as he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.

That puts two young backs in focus as the guys to hopefully produce.

Keaontay Ingram, in his second NFL season, and undrafted rookie Emari Demercado now sit atop the Cardinals’ depth chart and they will likely be the first guys given the opportunity to handle the load.

Ingram has missed the last two games with a neck injury but should play this week. He looked great in training camp.

Demercado isn’t special at any particular thing but can do everything pretty well. He scored his first NFL touchdown last week and, after some very short gains after Conner got hurt, has runs of eight, nine and 11 yards, the final one getting into the end zone.

They have veterans Damien Williams and Corey Clement on the practice squad and added Tony Jones this week on a waiver claim, but Clement is mostly a special teams player, Williams is 31 years old and Jones has a career 2.8-yard per-carry average.

So if the Cardinals can maintain a productive running game, it will depend on the young guys. It is a big opportunity for them.

Keaontay Ingram showed why he could be Cardinals’ No. 2 RB

In his first action of the preseason, he was one of the Cardinals’ bright spots in their loss to the Chiefs.

The Arizona Cardinals were quiet all offseason at the running back position. They brought back Corey Clement and added Emari Demercado as an undrafted rookie.

Expecting to rely more on the running back and with the history of missing games that starting running back James Conner has, it made sense to believe that they would add a veteran.

But maybe that was because they believe in second-year back Keaontay Ingram.

Ingram missed the preseason opener and much of training camp with some injury the team never disclosed (Pro Football Focus indicated once that it was an abdomen injury, but that is the only place I saw anything). but he returned to action and was a bright spot in the team’s 38-10 preseason loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.

Ingram rushed for 28 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, he caught two passes for 20 yards and returned a kick for 13 yards.

His five-yard touchdown run was a display of effort and strength.

“I thought he looked good,” head coach Jonathan Gannon said after the game. “(He) made some runs and made a couple of guys miss. That touchdown run was pretty special so it was good to have him back in there. That was his first exposure in a live game. I know he was lathered up pretty good, he had a good attitude, he did a good job. And the O-Line did a good when they were in there with him. They opened up some holes and created some displacement.”

Ingram showed burst, strength and the ability to make guys miss.

He made plays in the passing game.

After last week in the preseason opener looked like they were missing something in the running game, if Ingram can keep healthy and look how he looked against the Chiefs, the Cardinals might be just fine with a running back duo of him and Conner for the regular season.

5 2022 drafts picks for Cardinals with uncertain future with team

These 5 Cardinals draft picks from last year will have extra to prove with a new coaching staff and front office, in addition to new competition.

The Arizona Cardinals have a new front office and coaching staff. That means they were not the ones who necessarily liked the players the team drafted in 2022.

Some of their draft picks seem destined to bigger roles in 2023 — tight end Trey McBride and linebackers Cameron Thomas and Myjai Sanders. However, the other players have uncertain futures for the coming season.

They are players to watch in training camp and the preseason coming up later this month and next month.
