According to one analyst, If QB Marcel Reed improves, Texas A&M’s offense could be ‘lethal’

If Marcel Reed improves in the pocket next season, Texas A&M offense should be one of the top units in the SEC

We’re still in the early part of the college football offseason, but that doesn’t mean predicting future success is off the table, especially concerning Texas A&M’s 2025 offense under incoming redshirt sophomore QB Marcel Reed.

After Conner Weigman transferred to Houston this offseason, Marcel Reed is the full-time starter. With nine starts under his belt during the 2024 season, the former four-start dual-threat signal caller still needs to improve as a pocket passer, especially from an accuracy standpoint.

Still, Reed had one of the better years despite not starting every game, finishing with 1,864 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, seven rushing touchdowns, and 547 rushing yards, placing 22nd overall (75.6) and fifth among SEC quarterbacks in total QBR.

Coach Mike Elko and Offensive Coordinator Collin Klein have concentrated on assisting Reed via the transfer portal this offseason, bringing in wide receivers KC Concepcion, Micah Hudson, Mario Craver, and Jonah Wilson. However, Hudson is presently taking a leave of absence from the program.

Furthermore, Texas A&M’s offense line will return nearly every starter, including six incoming freshmen from the 2025 class, while Le’Veon Moss will return for a final season alongside Reuben Owens and Amari Daniels in a loaded backfield.

PFF College’s Max Chadwick is one of the rare analysts this offseason who is bullish on Texas A&M’s revamped offense but knows that if the Aggies are going to reach their potential, only if Marcel Reed becomes a trusted pocket passer.

“If Marcel Reed develops more as a passer, Texas A&M’s offense is going to be lethal.”

For those unaware, Reed has been working hard over the last month with the quarterback Country Nashville. His mindset, maturity, and confidence in his ability could help him lead the Aggies in 2025.

Athlon Sports names Texas A&M one of six transfer portal winners this offseason

Texas A&M’s 12 transfer portal additions have a chance to immediately impact the Aggies’ in 2025

Texas A&M’s 2025 offseason is off to a solid start amid the Aggies’ disappointing 1-4 finish to the 2024 season, as coach Mike Elko is determined to build the roster to his liking and add substantial depth at every position of need.

After losing to Texas in the regular season finale, Elko and his staff immediately took advantage of the growing number of talented transfer portal additions.

The staff focused on adding talent to the wide receiver corps, depth in the secondary, and replacing NFL-bound defensive linemen Nic Scourton, Shemar Turner, and Shemar Stewart.

In just one month, the Aggies have added 12 portal additions, led by landing NC State transfer wide receiver KC Concepcion, who looks like the team’s No. 1 receiver option after losing veteran Noah Thomas to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Two months before the spring football season, Athlon Sports writer Steven Lassen named Texas A&M as one of six transfer portal winners, joining Ole Miss, LSU, Auburn, Texas Tech, and Florida State.

“The Aggies met their needs on the offensive side, landing former five-star prospect Micah Hudson (Texas Tech) and a pair of productive receivers in Mario Craver (21.7 yards per catch at Mississippi State in ’24) and Kevin Concepcion (124 catches in two seasons at NC State).

Former Georgia defensive back Julian Humphrey and slot cornerback Jordan Shaw (Washington) are critical pickups to address a secondary that allowed 20 touchdown passes in ’24. Restocking the trenches was another priority with Shemar Turner, Nic Scourton, and Shemar Stewart off to the NFL. The pickups of Dayon Hayes (Colorado), Tyler Onyedim (Iowa State), and T.J. Searcy (Florida) add much-needed depth and talent up front.”

Lassen covered every detail about the Aggies’ offseason achievements. Although Elko still requires a few more additions to feel completely secure with the roster, the program is doing exceptionally well following an impressive transfer portal haul so far.

Texas A&M’s 2025 class and a key transfer addition have arrived for move in day

Texas A&M’s 2025 signing class along with wide receiver KC Concepcion have move in ahead of the spring football season

Texas A&M’s 2025 recruiting/signing class has made its way to campus during the annual early move-in day, as coach Mike Elko and his staff are looking to get as many players ready for the spring football season.

Another key takeaway from the day: NC State transfer wide receiver KC Concepcion joined the incoming freshman class as the veteran wideout is ready to work early, which is significant since 2025 five-star WR Jerome Myles will not move in until the summer.

Out of the 2025 players in the cycle, several signees, including linebacker Noah Mikhail, cornerback Adonyss Currie edge Marco Jones, offensive tackle Lamont Rogers, and tight end Kiotti Armstrong, are all participating in this week’s Navy All-American Bowl practices.

This is arguably one of the most, with all five players noted as skilled players expected to contribute as early as next season.

Here is the list of every 2025 signee who moved in on Tuesday:

  • WR KC Concepcion

Texas A&M should pursue NC State transfer defensive back

Texas A&M should contact NC State defensive back Tamarcus Cooley, who just entered the transfer portal

Texas A&M’s transfer portal haul reached 11 commitments on Thursday night after former Iowa State defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim signed with the Aggies, filling another big hole on the roster.

However, former NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion still looks like the most significant acquisition. On Thursday, Concepcion’s Wolfpack teammate, freshman cornerback Tamarcus Cooley, entered the transfer portal with three years remaining eligibility.

Cooley is likely looking to move to a more significant program despite the Wolpack’s recent success. With the departure of Aggie cornerback BJ Mayes, who has entered the NFL Draft, coach Mike Elko should contact the talented defensive back sooner rather than later.

According to Pro Football Focus, Cooley was NC State’s second-highest-rated defender and highest-ranked defensive back, earning an 80.8 defensive grade, 67.7 coverage grade, and 83.7 run defense grade.

During the 2024 season, Cooley recorded 39 tackles, two forced fumbles, three interceptions, and six pass deflections. Cooley’s talent is undeniable, and the Aggies are still one or two cornerbacks away from feeling more than good heading into the spring football season.

Texas A&M’s transfer portal ranking rises after landing WR KC Concepcion

Texas A&M’s transfer portal ranking steadily rose after landing former NCState WR KC Concepcion

Texas A&M and coach Mike Elko have landed ten commitments from the transfer portal, including the latest addition, former NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion, who chose the Aggies over Alabama, North Carolina, and Colorado.

While all ten commitments will immediately impact next season, Concepcion looks like the crown jewel who will take over as the No. 1 receiving option for quarterback Marcel Reed, especially after junior wide receiver Noah Thomas entered the portal on Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday, Texas A&M hosted two top transfer portal defensive tackles, former Washington State DL David Gusta and Iowa State transfer DL Tyler Onyedim, who also look like immediate upgrades to an interior defensive line in dire need of size and depth.

Texas A&M’s transfer portal rankings steadily rose to No. 5 in the standings, and when it’s all said and done, expect the Aggies to land more than half of the 28 players from last offseason.

Here are the Top 10 transfer portal rankings per 247Sports:

  1. LSU Tigers (14 commits)
  2. Texas Tech (17 commits)
  3. Ole Miss Rebels (15 commits)
  4. Auburn Tigers (14 commits)
  5. Texas A&M Aggies (10 commits)
  6. Mississippi State Bulldogs (18 commits)
  7. Nebraska Cornhuskers (12 commits)
  8. Florida State Seminoles (11 commits)
  9. Kentucky Wildcats (14 commits)

Transfer WR KC Concepcion brings much needed playmaking ability to Texas A&M

Texas A&M has likely found it’s new No. 1 wide receiver after landing KC Concepcion from the transfer portal

Texas A&M’s offense was sporadic, but statistically, first-year OC Collin Klein gets more than a passing grade after the Aggies finished 25th in points per game (31) and 16th in passing yards (292) even after veteran running back Le’Veon Moss was lost for the season.

However, after the run game fell off, the Aggies were forced to beat teams through the air, as redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed showed improvement but lacked playmakers at wide receiver outside of freshman Terry Bussey, who wasn’t utilized as much as he should have been.

Needing to replenish depth and starting talent at multiple positions, coach Mike Elko knew that improving the wide receiver corps would help aid Reed’s development and add an explosive element to the offense.

After landing critical commitments from transfer receivers Micah Hudson (Texas Tech) and Mario Craver (Mississippi State), Elko beat out Alabama, North Carolina, and Colorado for former NC State WR KC Concepcion just a day after the Aggies’ 35-31 loss to USC in the Las Vegas Bowl.

Concepcion ended his Wolfpack career with 1,655 total yards, including 1,299 yards receiving and 16 touchdowns through the air.

On tape, the incoming junior looks like the best playmaker on A&M’s roster. While his production dropped off this season, his run-after-catch ability and impressive quickness will allow the Aggie offense to pick up chunk gains on short passes.

Combined with Micah Hudson and Mario Craver, both young but highly athletic and twitchy route runners, Collin Klein can’t complain about any talent discrepancy concerning play calling next season.

While it might be a stretch to compare him to the great Percy Harvin, it certainly isn’t far-fetched to note the similarities between Concepcion and former Texas A&M wide receiver Christian Kirk.

Former NC State wide receiver has officially signed with Texas A&M

Wide receiver KC Concepcion has officially signed with Texas A&M

Texas A&M secured its most notable offseason acquisition from the transfer portal, as former NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion will join the Aggies for the 2025 season following two successful stints with the Wolfpack.

One of the country’s quicker and most athletic offensive playmakers, Concepcion looks like the clear-cut No. 1 receiving option for an Aggie offense in desperate need of receivers who can separate in coverage and make plays after the catch.

In his two seasons with the Wolfpack, Concepcion recorded 124 receptions for 1,655 yards and 18 touchdowns, demonstrating a blend of speed and remarkable route running while overcoming various quarterback challenges during his college career.

Entering a better situation, incoming sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed improved as a passer in the second half of the season. At the same time, OC Collin Klein will be able to open up the playbook as Micah Hudson, Mario Craver, and 2025 five-star wide receiver Jerome Myles join Concepcion as the new additions to the rotation.

After announcing his commitment, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed that Concepcion had signed his transfer papers and is officially an Aggie heading into the spring football season.

Texas A&M revamped wide receiver room is a litmus test for OC Collin Klein

Heading into Year 2, Texas A&M OC Collin Klein has more than enough offensive talent to work with

Texas A&M landed its most significant offseason commitment thus far on Sunday afternoon, as former North Carolina State wide receiver Kevin “KC” Concepcion chose the Aggies over Colorado, Alabama, and North Carolina.

While coach Mike Elko and his staff still need to add more depth along the defensive line and potentially another linebacker, safety, and cornerback from the portal, Concepcion is one of the best playmakers in the country and automatically improves the Aggies’ 2025 passing game barring improvement from starting quarterback Marcel Reed.

However, OC Collin Klein, who will enter his second season with the Aggies, is now on notice after an up-and-down season from a playcalling perspective, even though the Aggies ended the year averaging 31 points per game, tied for 25th nationally.

Offensive coordinators are evaluated based on their creativity and how well they use their talent.

Although A&M had some talent as a wide receiver this season, Marcel Reed should be acknowledged for his improvement in the passing game despite his poor performance in the season-ending loss to Texas. He helped the Aggies achieve an average of 292 passing yards, placing 16th nationally.

Indeed, these figures are quite satisfactory. However, the 0-4 season finish, along with a deficiency in dynamic passing plays, was a driving factor behind the recruitment of Micah Hudson, Mario Craver, and KC Concepcion from the portal. Each of these players contributes speed, athleticism, and route-running skills, which are essential for aiding Marcel Reed in becoming a more dependable passer.

For Klein, his run-based scheme won’t change much, especially with the return of veteran running back Le’Veon Moss, but to become a balanced offense, more play-action looks coupled with enhanced mesh passing concepts will help create chunk plays and set and get Marcel Reed in rhythm early.

Furthermore, Klein was hired due to his ability to scheme receivers’ open, especially those who can consistently separate in coverage and find openings in the zone.

Texas A&M’s defense is a whole other story, but with the 2025 offense looking nearly complete on paper, it’s time for Collin Klein to deliver as a playcaller.

Former NC State transfer wide receiver has committed to Texas A&M

NC State transfer WR KC Concepcion has committed to Texas A&M!

Boom! Texas A&M has landed the most significant offseason commitment, as transfer wide receiver Kevin “KC” Concepcion is headed to College Station for the 2025 season after two seasons with the Wolfpack.

Following weeks of speculation, which included a recent trip to North Carolina, the sophomore receiver is now officially an Aggie. Concepcion reached out to coach Mike Elko and his team, visiting the Aggies last weekend to confirm his commitment to Elko’s vision.

On paper, Concepcion is the final offensive piece needed to feel good going into the offseason and now joins former Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson and former Mississippi State receiver Mario Craver in an already revamped WR corps that likely put a big smile on starting quarterback Marcel Reed’s face.

During his two seasons with the Wolfpack, Concepcion achieved 124 receptions for 1,655 yards and 18 touchdowns, showcasing a combination of speed and exceptional route running while navigating quarterback challenges throughout his college career.

North Carolina State transfer wide receiver has arrived for his Texas A&M visit

North Carolina transfer wide receiver KC Concepcion has arrived for his weekend visit to Texas A&M

Texas A&M’s 2025 wide receiver room could be another significant addition to an already loaded room, as former North Carolina State WR Kevin “KC” Concepcion has reportedly arrived for his visit to College Station on Friday, which is big news after weeks of speculation.

According to Texas A&M recruiting insider Jaxson Callaway, also known as AggiesToday to the masses, Concepcion touched down in CSTAT late Thursday night and will likely spend the next two to three days with Coach Mike Elko and his staff. However, Concepcion will head to Miami (FL) after his Aggie visit.

Regardless, Elko and his team have a real opportunity to secure his commitment as early as this weekend. The incoming junior understands that he will join the program as a starter right away, thanks to his previous performance and exceptional skill set.

In two seasons with the Wolfpack, Concepcion recorded 124 receptions, 1,299 yards, and 16 touchdowns, bringing a blend of speed and excellent route running despite dealing with quarterback issues throughout his collegiate career.

If the Aggies can reel him in, Texas A&M’s 2025 wide receiver room suddenly looks like one of the best units in the country heading into the spring football season.
