Best photos from Penn State’s road win at Maryland in Week 10

Check out some of the best photos available from Penn State’s dominant road win at Maryland.

Penn State head coach James Franklin had plenty of reasons to be smiling after Penn State’s dominant performance at Maryland in Week 10. In a season where Penn State has had most of its offensive struggles on the road, there was nothing to worry about in a 51-15 victory against the Terrapins. Penn State put 27 points on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter alone to run away with a win that helps keep Penn State firmly in the Big Ten East Division race with just three games remaining in the regular season.

[autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] had four touchdowns, including a pair to transfer wide receiver [autotag]Dante Cephas[/autotag], and the defense brought Taulia Tagovailoa down for 6 sacks and caused multiple turnovers by one of the Big Ten’s top passing leaders. It was a terrific boost of confidence for Penn State as it now prepares for a massive game next week at home against Michigan.

But before that page can be turned, here is a look at some of the best photos from Penn State’s lopsided road win against Maryland.

Drew Allar’s 4 TD game and Penn State defense handle Maryland, 51-15

Drew Allar threw 4 touchdowns and the Penn State defense sacked Taulia Tagovailoa 6 times in a road blowout against the Terrapins.

Penn State quarterback [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] showed visible signs of improvement after a couple of tough performances the past couple of weeks, and he could not have done it at a better time. Allar passed for 240 yards and four touchdowns in Penn State’s 41-15 road win at Maryland on Saturday afternoon to improve the Nittany Lions to 8-1 this season and keeping the Nittany Lions in the thick of the Big Ten East Division race.

Penn State’s defense set the tone right from the start of the game with a big fourth-down stop against the Maryland offense on the game’s opening possession. Penn State started its first possession of the day from the Maryland 44-yard line and capped the drive with the first of two touchdown catches from Allar to wide receiver [autotag]Dante Cephas[/autotag].

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa was locked in at the start of the game by completing his first 17 pass attempts for 172 yards in the first half. But the Penn State defense brought timely pressure and knocked him off his game as the game wore on. Tagovailoa ended his day with 286 passing yards and 2 touchdowns but also 1 interception and a lost fumble. Penn State sacked Tagovailoa a total of 6 times and the Nittany Lions had 12 TFL in the win.

Allar’s two touchdown passes to Cephas showed great touch to both sides of the field as Cephas had the ball placed in the perfect spots as he neared the edges of the end zone. They are arguably two of the best passes Allar has had this season.

[autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag] led the Nittany Lions with 91 rushing yards, meaning Penn State once again did not have a 100-yard rusher in a game this season. Allen scored a rushing touchdown and [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] added 20 rushing yards and 68 kickoff return yards.

For the 9th time this season, Penn State held its opponent scoreless in the third quarter. That helped Penn State build on its 21-7 lead at halftime up to 24-7 entering the fourth quarter, and Penn State pulled away with 27 more points in the fourth quarter to close things out.

Penn State will return home next week for a showdown with Michigan. Kickoff is set for 12 pm ET as the Fox Big Noon Kickoff Game. Penn State has dropped two straight games to the Wolverines, including the 2021 matchup in Beaver Stadium that helped lead Michigan to their first Big Ten title under head coach Jim Harbaugh.

Best photos from Penn State’s win over Indiana

Here are the best photos from Penn State’s home win against Indiana in Week 9.

Penn State had to dig deep in the final minutes of a rough outing to find a way to a victory on Saturday afternoon against Indiana. Despite being a 31-point favorite, Penn State needed a long touchdown pass and a defensive safety to help seal the fate of this particular home game, a 33-24 victory.

Penn State’s defense gave up more points in a game than it has all season long, and the offense had their rough moments for a second consecutive week. But in the end, the Nittany Lions managed to come out on top and toss aside quite a gritty effort from the visiting Hoosiers.

Here are some of the best photos available from Penn State’s win over Indiana.

Penn State defense not enough to overcome Ohio State in 20-12 loss

Penn State’s offense was lost and outclassed once again by Ohio State in first loss of the season.

Penn State’s defense showed up to play at a championship level on Saturday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Unfortunately, Penn State needed an offense to have a pulse for any chance of rewriting the narrative against Ohio State. Penn State came up short in a 20-12 setback in a massive Big Ten contest, its first loss of the season.

Penn State’s offense was a horrific 1-for-16 on third down conversions against a stuffing Ohio State defense. Penn State was also 1-for-3 on fourth down, with its lone fourth-down conversion coming late in the fourth quarter. It was a truly horrendous day for Penn State’s offense, which has become a running theme over the years against these Buckeyes.

[autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] completed just 18-of-421 attempts for 191 yards, his third tough outing on the road this season. While he continued to avoid a turnover, Allar could never get in sync with his receivers. The running game also struggled in this one with just 48 rushing yards for [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] and 26 yards for [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag]. Penn State was also shutout in the first half with just a pair of [autotag]Alex Felkins[/autotag] field goals to show for in the first half.

Penn State’s offense was outgained by Ohio State 367-167 until Penn State’s final possession of the game.

Penn State’s defense allowed big numbers to Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., but allowing just 13 points on the road against Ohio State is about as good as it gets. Penn State’s defense came up with a huge goal-line stand in the third quarter to keep things within reach, just begging the offense to do something to take advantage.

Special teams miscues played a role in the outcome as well. A few short moments after Penn State’s goal line stand against Ohio State, the offense was forced to punt the ball away. But the football hit an Ohio State player and Penn State recovered around midfield to retain possession. But the offense could do nothing with the golden opportunity with the game still just a four-point game.

Penn State’s [autotag]Daquan Hardy[/autotag] also had a moment he’d like to have back. A week after returning two punts for touchdowns, Hardy misplayed a punt from the back of Ohio State’s end zone. After letting the ball drop, the football bounced and dribbled nearly 25 more yards behind him for a 72-yard punt, wasting a terrific defensive effort at the other end of the field.

Penn State’s defense nearly scored the only touchdown of the game by the Nittany Lions. After forcing a fumble by Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord, [autotag]Curtis Jacobs[/autotag] picked up the loose ball and returned it for what could have been a touchdown if not for a defensive holding penalty on [autotag]Kalen King[/autotag] while covering Harrison Jr. Ohio State kept possession and went on to score the first touchdown of the game to go up 10-3 for what would end up being the game-winning score.

Penn State lost defensive star [autotag]Chop Robinson[/autotag] in the first half to an injury. His status moving forward has not been updated.

Penn State will look for a rebound next week at home against Indiana. The loss to Ohio State is a crushing defeat for now, but Penn State can still remain on the radar for a spot in the College Football Playoff and still can get a shot at the Big Ten East as long as it doesn’t drop another game. But this puts Penn State behind the curve at the moment.

Penn State’s offensive keys to victory vs. Ohio State

What to watch from Penn State’s offense vs. Ohio State.

There has been a lot of chatter about the Penn State offense after things haven’t quite looked like people expected with five-star quarterback Drew Allar leading the charge.

Still, the offense has been good enough to score 30 points or more in every contest this season.

The question people have is if how the offense has operated so far this season will be able to get by Ohio State.

After all, the reason why fans were so excited that quarterback of Allar’s caliber came to Penn State was for these games.

So, with that in mind, here are the keys to victory for the Nittany Lions as they take on the Buckeyes.

The first key is to win the battle in the trenches.

One of the reasons why Penn State has been dominated in this matchup recently is because they’ve been overpowered by Ohio State’s defensive line. That can’t happen on Saturday with one of the best units that Penn State has had under [autotag]James Franklin[/autotag]. They have to win this matchup to create time to throw and lanes for the running backs to run through.

The second key is sustaining offensive drives.

Lost in all the conversation about the lack of explosive plays is that the Nittany Lions have put together long drives that have resulted in points. Doing that in this game means they’re moving the chains, tiring out Ohio State’s defense and keeping the scary opposing offensive playmakers on the sideline. The more time of possession for Penn State the better.

The third is to have a potent rushing attack.

Ohio State has given up 111.2 rushing yards per game this season. If Penn State’s offensive line can win in the trenches, they should be able to create running lanes that [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag] can take advantage of. They’ll need them to both have their best games of the season and remind everyone why they were one of the top rushing duos in the Big Ten last year.

Top 10 Big Ten rushing yardage leaders after Week 7

Penn State has two of the Big Ten’s top 10 leading rushers heading into the Ohio State game.

Penn State is home to the Big Ten’s top rushing offense this season. The Nittany Lions are leading the Big Ten with an average of 203.33 rushing yards per game, which puts Penn State on pace for its top rushing average since the 2018 season with Miles Sanders and quarterback Trace McSorley leading the way on the ground.

The combination of [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag] gives Penn State two of the Big Ten’s top 10 rushing yardage leaders and their split roles have helped to keep both as fresh as possible. Backup quarterback [autotag]Beau Pribula[/autotag] adding on 225 rushing yards is a nice little boost to the Penn State rushing production too. But Penn State’s dynamic rushing duo will face their stiffest test this weekend at Ohio State with the Buckeyes owning the Big Ten’s fourth-best rushing defense this season.

Penn State’s Big Ten-leading rushing defense will face some of the Big Ten’s top running backs in the second half of the season as well. Here is a look at the Big Ten’s top 10 rushing yardage leaders through Week 7. And here is a look at the Big Ten’s top 10 passing yardage leaders.

Best photos from Penn State’s blowout of UMass

Best photos from Penn State’s homecoming win over UMass.

The weather may not have been fantastic, but just about everything else about Penn State’s victory over UMass was. From big special teams returns, a monster defensive performance, and steady offensive production against an overmatched opponent, Penn State was ready to send the fans and alums home with a win to smile about.

Penn State dominated UMass, 63-0, in front of a homecoming crowd willing to sit through the first batch of cold and damp fall weather to his State College for a football Saturday this season. And it did lead to some memorable photos to look back on as well.

Here are some of the best photos from Penn State’s latest win against the UMass Minutemen in Week 7 of the college football season.

Penn State’s offensive keys to victory vs. UMass

What to watch with Penn State’s offense against UMass.

Nobody is going to try and convince anyone that UMass has a legitimate shot to upset Penn State on Saturday.

So, this won’t be about what the offense of the Nittany Lions needs to do in order to secure a victory. This will be about what they need to work on before their looming matchups with Ohio State next weekend and Michigan in mid-November.

The first key is explosives, explosives, explosives.

Since the first deep touchdown pass from [autotag]Drew Allar[/autotag] to [autotag]Keandre Lambert-Smith[/autotag] in Week 1 against West Virginia, this offense has seemingly not had a big play in an important moment. That’s a concern going forward when facing elevated competition.

They’re still averaging 40.6 points per game this season and have scored over 30 points in every game, but will the offense be good enough to win those two big games how it’s currently operating?

Explosive plays would go a long way in helping the cause.

The second key to victory is establishing a secondary option in the wide receiver room.

It’s clear that Lambert-Smith has become the No. 1 receiver in this offense and who Allar trusts the most, but they need to find another one who they can go to quickly. When [autotag]Harrison Wallace[/autotag] comes back from injury he’s expected to step into that role. This week, receivers should be auditioning for that secondary spot in the offense.

The third is to get the running game going.

It seems like there is very little confidence amongst the running backs so far this season. [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] and [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag] haven’t had those big runs like last year and it’s affecting how they’re running the ball. Using this game against UMass to get the confidence back is a must for Penn State going forward.

Top 10 Big Ten rushing yardage leaders after Week 6

Michigan’s Blake Corum is working his way to the top of the Big Ten rushing yardage leaderboard. Here are the updated top 10 Big Ten rushing yardage leaders.

We are getting closer and closer to having a new leading rusher in the Big Ten. A change at the top could happen as soon as this coming week when Michigan hosts Indiana. Michigan running back Blake Corum rushed for just 69 yards in Michigan’s lopsided road win at Minnesota to close the gap with Minnesota’s Darius Taylor, who missed his second straight game due to injury.

There is one quarterback among the top 10 rushing leaders in the conference. Nebraska’s Heinrich Haarberg continues to be one of the top dual-threats in the conference as he has led the Cornhuskers in rushing once again this past weekend in a road win at Illinois.

Here is a look at the top 10 rushing yardage leaders in the Big Ten through Week 6.

Top 10 Big Ten rushing yardage leaders after Week 5

Michigan’s Blake Corum is heating up, and Penn State is close to having two of the Big Ten’s top 10 leading rushers.

Michigan running back Blake Corum is well on his way to another big year in the end zone. After scoring 18 touchdowns on the ground a year ago, Corum already has 9 rushing touchdowns this season as he continues to heat up running the ball for the Wolverines. Corum’s 9 rushing touchdowns is 3 more than anyone else in the Big Ten at the start of October. Three big Ten rushers are tied for second with 6 rushing touchdowns; Penn State’s [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag], Wisconsin’s Braelon Allen, and Rutgers’ Kyle Monangai.

Singleton, the 2022 Big Ten freshman of the year, is still looking for a big explosive run and his first 100-yard game of the season as we move into the second month of the season. So far, Singleton is sitting just outside of the top 10 rushing yardage leaderboard in the Big Ten at the start of October, although teammate [autotag]Kaytron Allen[/autotag] is in the top 10.

Here is a look at the Big Ten’s top 10 leading rushing yardage leaders through Week 5. Here are the top 10 receiving yardage leaders in the Big Ten.
