Four-star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald is coming to Death Valley this weekend ahead of his highly anticipated college decision announcement expected on Monday, Oct. 31.  This weekend’s visit will be closing time for the Tigers.

McDonald, who’s from North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.) High School, spoke to The Clemson Insider and detailed expectations about this visit and how close he is to a commitment.

“I’m close to a decision,” McDonald told The Clemson Insider.

The defensive lineman expressed what he looks forward to the most this Saturday, as Clemson hosts an undefeated, confident Syracuse team in Death Valley.

“The atmosphere, the players and talking with coach Swinney and the staff,” he said. “The atmosphere with the students around, the locker room culture and see if it’s a family atmosphere with the staff.”

With Clemson in his top five schools, alongside the likes of Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma and Ohio State, McDonald shared what makes Clemson a stand out program to him.

“Close to home,” he said. “The academic’s Paw Journey and Championship Program.”

He was candid with his prediction for how he believes Syracuse will match up against the Tigers in Memorial Stadium.

As for a score prediction of the highly anticipated game in Death Valley, McDonald said, “41-17.”

McDonald, who is the No. 8 defensive tackle in his class, also had a prediction for what he expects from Clemson’s defensive line this Saturday.

“To play fast and stop the run,” he said.

Since Clemson extended the offer to McDonald in May the Tigers have been one of his top schools.  He recently included Clemson among his top five schools.

With a college decision on the horizon for McDonald, he shared which coach he’s most excited to meet during his time in Death Valley.

“I’ve never met Coach Swinney, so I wanna meet him,” he said.

Clemson will play host to a bunch of top prospects for Saturday’s 12 p.m. game against Syracuse.

Here are some of the bigger names The Clemson Insider has confirmed as planned visitors for the top-15 ACC Atlantic Division showdown at Death Valley:

One of the headliners among the recruits expected to be in attendance is Central High School (Phenix City, Ala.) four-star defensive end Tomarrion Parker (pictured above), who will be on campus as an official visitor.

Parker, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound senior in the class of 2023, is down to Clemson, Penn State, Texas A&M and Tennessee. Last week, he announced a commitment date of Nov. 21.

Clemson extended an offer to Parker on Aug. 11, after he decommitted from Penn State a couple days prior.

“I always wanted to say that Clemson offered,” Parker told The Clemson Insider shortly after being offered. “We’ve been talking for a little while and once I decommitted, some of the commits, some of my friends that I know — Peter Woods and (Christopher) Vizzina — they hit me up and they were like, ‘Bro, would you be interested in Clemson?’

“Are you kidding me? Of course!”

Since Clemson has re-entered the picture, what has defensive ends coach Lemanski Hall’s message been to Parker?

“He’s losing four guys (Xavier Thomas, KJ Henry, Myles Murphy and Justin Mascoll) this year to the NFL, so he needs players who are ready to come in and play early, play right away,” Parker said, “and he feels like I’m a guy that can do that. He’s gonna recruit me hard and I really like that and respect that — saying that the defensive room is open next year. That’s a great opportunity to go into.”

Parker, who went to Tennessee last weekend for its game against Alabama, was previously at Clemson on an unofficial visit for the Sept. 10 game vs. Furman.

He is ranked as high as the No. 6 defensive lineman and No. 44 overall prospect in the 2023 class by 247Sports.

A few other significant 2023 prospects slated to be on hand for Saturday’s game as unofficial visitors are Daniel High School (Central, S.C.) three-star athlete Misun Kelley, North Oconee (Bogart, Ga.) three-star athlete Khalil Barnes and North Gwinnett (Suwanee, Ga.) four-star defensive tackle Kayden McDonald.

Kelley received an offer from Clemson on Oct. 7, shortly after decommitting from Virginia Tech.

Dabo Swinney and the Tigers offered the 5-foot-11, 177-pound senior as an athlete. According to Kelley, Clemson sees him as an electric, versatile weapon that can return punts, shut down opposing receivers and/or score touchdowns.

“Swinney had called me and told me that I had been balling on the field,” Kelley told TCI after scoring the offer. “He said that they were ready to 100% offer me. I’ve been talking to (wide receivers coach Tyler) Grisham and (defensive coordinator Wes) Goodwin too a lot.”

In addition to Clemson, Kelley mentioned schools like Virginia Tech, James Madison, Maryland, Oklahoma and Florida as those currently involved in his recruitment. He’s hoping to render a decision prior to December.

Barnes (6-1, 185) reopened his recruitment and decommitted from Wake Forest on Oct. 3.

Ever since Clemson offered Barnes on Sept. 22, he’s been in constant contact with Goodwin and co-defensive coordinator/safeties coach Mickey Conn. He said that his conversations with Goodwin and Conn are more personable, that they don’t talk about football.

“I feel like I talk to him the most out of any coach from up there,” Barnes said to TCI of Conn. “I can call him, and we can probably talk about what I had for lunch and have a good conversation. He always lets me know that at Clemson, they really want me. He feels that I’m the guy that they need to have with this recruiting class. It’s good talks for sure.”

After this weekend’s unofficial visit, Barnes will make his way back to Clemson for the South Carolina game on Nov. 26 and take an official visit that weekend.

As far as a decision timeline is concerned, Barnes imagines that it’ll likely come close to the early signing period. He’s hoping to be a midyear enrollee and said that all the schools he’s been in contact with will be able to accommodate him on that.

As for McDonald, he announced a top five earlier this month featuring the Tigers along with Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma and Ohio State. He is ranked as high as the No. 193 overall prospect in the 2023 class by Rivals, which considers him the nation’s No. 8 defensive tackle in his class.

Clemson extended an offer to the 6-foot-3, 315-pounder in late May.

“It’s a blessing,” McDonald told TCI after receiving the offer. “Clemson’s a school that doesn’t really throw out a whole lot of offers. Clemson is a great, top-five program. In the last five years, they’ve won nattys. It’s a great program that doesn’t really throw out offers, so it’s a blessing to have an offer.”

The headliner among the 2024 prospects planning to be in attendance is Willis (Texas) five-star quarterback DJ Lagway.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound junior is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the country and No. 25 overall prospect in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Lagway dropped his top 10 schools last month, announcing he is down to Clemson, Arkansas, LSU, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia, Southern Cal, Alabama and Baylor.

Clemson got him on campus for a pair of unofficial visits in April and June.

It didn’t come as a surprise when he included Swinney’s program as a part of his top schools. He recently went into detail with TCI about why the Tigers are one of his favorites.

“I’d say because of the atmosphere — the Christian-based atmosphere,” Lagway explained. “It’s just amazing. It’s different than any other school. I feel like that’s the reason why it sets Clemson apart.”

Some other standout prospects set to visit Clemson for Saturday’s game are Tuscaloosa County High School (Northport, Ala.) 2023 three-star athlete Sawyer Deerman, Vandegrift (Austin, Texas) 2024 four-star offensive lineman Blake Frazier, Pike Road (Ala.) 2024 three-star defensive end Malik Blocton, North Cobb (Kennesaw, Ga.) 2024 athlete David Eziomume, Carrollton (Ga.) 2026 quarterback Julian Lewis and Dillon (S.C.) 2026 quarterback Josiah Oxendine.

As always, visitor lists like this are fluid and subject to change. But as of Thursday morning, the prospects mentioned in this article are some of the bigger names TCI expects to be on hand Saturday in The Valley.

This four-star DL has Florida in his top 5, planning Halloween commitment

Four-star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald is down to five schools and the University of Florida is one of them. The Gators will host McDonald on Saturday for their matchup with Missouri.

Four-star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald has narrowed down his college options to five programs — Florida, Clemson, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

McDonald caught up with Hayes Fawcett of On3.com and spoke about each of his finalists after making the announcement, and he also set a commitment date of October 31. He’s already been to the Swamp three times this year, including an official visit in June, but McDonald is expected in the Swamp this weekend to see the Gators take on the Missouri Tigers.

“I love Florida,” McDonald said. “ The academics, staff, it’s the SEC, and there are big games every Saturday in the swamp. Coach Napier is building his team one player at a time. Coach Chaos coming from the NFL is a technician. We are real close. I’m comfortable with coach Chaos, coach Reid, coach Chaney, coach PT and pretty much all the staff. Me, my mom, and coach Napier are in a group chat and we talk to him all the time. He’s a players coach, and I like that. Definitely makes Florida a top school.”

Texas and Miami were two other schools McDonald mentioned as dark horse candidates that are still are recruiting him, but he said that he plans to focus on his top five moving forward.

The On3 consensus ranks McDonald at No. 314 overall and No. 43 among defensive linemen in the class of 2023. 247Sports’ individual rankings have him a bit high at No. 243 overall and No. 35 in his position group.

Four-star defensive lineman puts Clemson in top four, sets commitment date

Clemson is in the mix for another high-priority defensive lineman prospect in the class of 2023.

Clemson isn’t done recruiting defensive linemen for its 2023 class.

On Thursday, four-star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald took to Twitter to announce that he will be committing on Oct. 31 and will choose between five finalists: Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pound McDonald is the No. 35 defensive lineman prospect in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Clemson appears to be in serious contention for him as well, as all three 247Sports crystal ball predictions have Clemson landing him.

“Clemson is close, less than 2 hours away,” McDonald told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “I love the culture, and I’m cool with all the commits and know most of the players. My former high school teammate Barrett Carter is there doing really well, and my friend since the playpen, Avieon is committed. Coach Conn, who’s friends with my high school coach, is the co defensive coordinator. I talk to him and coach Goodwin. I also chop it up with coach Eason all the time, we have a good relationship.”

The Tigers have already landed five defensive line prospects in their 2023 class, all of which are four or five-star recruits.

Those linemen are five-star Peter Woods, four-star Vic Burley, four-star Stephiylan Green, four-star David Ojiegbe and four-star AJ Hoffler.

As of Friday, Clemson has the No. 8 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

Priority defensive lineman target visiting Florida for Missouri game

The Gators have already hosted four-star defensive linemen Kayden McDonald three times this year, but now he gets to see what a game day in the Swamp is really like.

Four-star defensive tackle [autotag]Kayden McDonald[/autotag] has already been to the Swamp three times this season, and now he’s planning a fourth visit, according to 247Sports.

McDonald made his way down to Gainesville twice in June, including an official visit, and again in July. Still, he hasn’t experienced a game day at the University of Florida, but that should change on Saturday when he visits to see the Gators take on the Missouri Tigers.

Michigan and Ohio State have also hosted him on official visits, and he has a trip to Oklahoma lined up in a few weeks. Clemson could get the fifth and final visit, but McDonald hasn’t committed to anything just yet. Although that competition may seem fierce, Florida’s got the advantage of being a tenured member of the SEC.

“It’s Florida and I want to play in the SEC,” McDonald said to 247Sports. “(Billy) Napier, he ran the Sun Belt, so he’s going to win some games. If I come here or not, they’re going to win. He’s going to get a Natty in possibly three to four years, so he’s just trying to build this 2023 class. He’s already got the new facilities and academics. You’re going to get a great degree here and just come and work.”

McDonald plans on committing at the end of the month, so he must have some idea of where he wants to go among the five programs. Interestingly, Clemson leads the On3 recruiting prediction machine with 61.7% odds to land McDonald, and Florida is a distant third Michigan with a 2.3% shot. A visit to Florida could change things, but there’s clearly plenty of work to be done over the weekend.

The 247Sports composite ranks McDonald at No. 243 overall in the class of 2023 and No. 35 among defensive linemen. He’s a bit lower on the composite rankings at No. 302 nationally and No. 44 among those in his position group.

The Clemson Insider has decided to take a relatively old concept and put a new spin on it. As we already introduced on our message board, TCI will field weekly recruiting mailbag questions, which will be answered in an article format. We’ll choose questions to answer and provide you with the most relevant information regarding Clemson recruiting.

Without further ado, we took a crack at answering some of your mailbag questions. It should be noted that the questions have been edited for clarity.

Q: Any RB recruiting news? I get the sense we may just let the RB position go this cycle. If so, where are they looking to fill in place of it?

I can assure you that Clemson will likely add a running back in this class, it’s just a matter of when rather than if. As of now in the Rivals top-250, the only remaining uncommitted running back has been crystal balled to Notre Dame as of Thursday afternoon.

When you head over to 247Sports, three uncommitted running backs are ranked in the top 35 at their position. That includes Fort Lauderdale (Florida) Dillard High’s Christopher Johnson, a one-time Clemson target, who is more than likely Miami-bound and Wichita (Kansas) Heights High’s John Randle II.

We introduced Randle as a name that we’ve heard in some circles in last week’s mailbag. While the four-star running back is ranked as the No. 20 running back in the nation, per the 247Sports composite, you’re looking at a player whose recruitment is still waiting to take off.

I believe Clemson will be looking at uncommitted prospects like the two mentioned above, who are waiting for their recruitments to take off.

Prospects like Andrew Paul, a one-time Clemson target, who, unfortunately, tore his ACL during his freshman fall camp at the University of Georgia. Before Kirby Smart and Georgia got involved with Paul, as well as others like Notre Dame, Oregon and Michigan, it was CJ Spiller on the sidelines for one of his playoff games, while he was mainly being recruited by programs like TCU and Colorado.

As I said before, Dabo Swinney and his staff are good at identifying talented prospects like Paul, who break out during their senior season and probably don’t get the attention they deserve on the recruiting trail.

Q: With the 2023 class rounding to a close, surely the staff is starting to put some focus on 2024 kids. Any early names you can throw out to keep an eye on?

Was hoping someone would ask this question, so thank you!

I’m not gonna go position by position breakdown, but I’ll throw out some names worth keeping an eye on:

  • Willis (Texas) High five-star QB DJ Lagway
  • Charlotte (North Carolina) Providence Day School five-star QB Jadyn Davis
  • Savannah (Georgia) Cavalry Day School four-star QB Jake Merklinger
  • Kennesaw (Georgia) North Cobb High four-star RB David Eziomume
  • Greensboro (North Carolina) Grimsley High four-star WR Alex Taylor
  • Burlington (North Carolina) Hugh M. Cummings four-star WR Jonathan Paylor
  • Fort Lauderdale (Florida) St. Thomas Aquinas High four-star WR James Madison II
  •  Dorchester (South Carolina) Woodland High four-star OT Kam Pringle
  • Dillon (South Carolina) High four-star OT Josiah Thompson
  • Leesburg (Virginia) Tuscarora High four-star OT Fletcher Westphal
  • Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward’s High four-star OT Ben Roebuck
  • Hiram (Georgia) High three-star OT Jameson Riggs
  • Greenville (South Carolina) High three-star OT Blake Franks
  • Atlanta (Georgia) Pace Academy four-star DL Hevin Brown-Shuler
  • Norcross (Georgia) Meadowcreek High four-star DL Champ Thompson
  • Jefferson (Georgia) High five-star LB Sammy Brown
  • Atlanta (Georgia) Woodward Academy four-star LB Andrew Hines III
  • Olney (Maryland) Our Lady Good Counsel HS four-star LB Aaron Chiles
  • Navarre (Florida) High four-star LB Zavier Hamilton
  • Marietta (Georgia) Walton High four-star LB Wendell Gregory
  • Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) St. Joseph’s Prep School four-star CB Omillio Agard
  • Chesapeake (Virginia) Oscar Smith High four-star CB Assad Brown, Jr.
  • Nashville (Tennessee) Lipscomb Academy four-star CB Kaleb Beasley
  • Tampa (Florida) Carrollwood Day School four-star CB Tavoy Feagin
  • Lagrange (Georgia) Troup County High four-star S Noah Dixon
  • Buford (Georgia) High five-star ATH KJ Bolden
  • Lilburn (Georgia) Parkview High four-star ATH Mike Matthews

Q: Would Clemson take another WR?

I wouldn’t say it’s out of the realm of possibility, but it would be a stretch to say that Clemson is anything more than in the mix with Lakeland (Florida) High’s Tyler Williams, who is set to make his college announcement on Sept. 27. I’d expect that decision to come down to Georgia and Ole Miss, which it seemingly has been for some time now.

Also, the work that Clemson has done on some of the receivers mentioned above like Paylor, Taylor and Madison in the class of 2024, tells me that Tyler Grisham and Co. have now focused their attention on those receivers with Sept. 1 on the horizon.

Anything can happen regarding roster attrition in college football, so I wouldn’t rule it out, but I don’t consider it likely at the moment.

Q: Do we believe Kayden McDonald will become a Clemson Tiger?

I’d maintain that Clemson remains in a good position to land his commitment, but as we’ve come to find out with recruiting, these things are fluid and could certainly change between now and the announcement date of Oct. 31.

McDonald has official visits scheduled to the University of Michigan on Sept. 10 and Ohio State on Sept. 24. He has an official visit scheduled to Clemson on Nov. 26 when the Tigers play host to the University of South Carolina at Memorial Stadium. It’s entirely possible that McDonald, who visited Clemson back in July, could return to Tiger Town for an unofficial visit before he makes his scheduled decision.

Up until this point, McDonald has used only one official visit. He officially visited the University of Florida back in June and it’s rumored that he could be a visitor in Gainesville for the Gators’ season-opener against No. 7 Utah on Sept. 3.

It would be premature to determine this race to be over and we will continue to track McDonald as his recruitment winds down. In any event, we like where Clemson currently stands with him at this moment in time.

Coveted 4-star DL recruit sets commitment date, ponders return visit

The Gators might get this big-time defensive lineman back on campus before he makes his big decision.

A summer of recruiting action is quickly giving way to the incoming college football season, but there are still plenty of decisions to be made before the book is closed on the 2023 class. Florida’s recent ascent up the recruiting rankings was the result of hard work by [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his staff, and they are not resting on their laurels just yet.

One of the remaining targets for the team is four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Kayden McDonald[/autotag] out of Suwanee (Georgia) North Gwinnett, who most recently made the trek to Gainesville at the end of July for the program’s big recruiting weekend. The 6-foot-3-inch, 310-pounder has made two other trips to campus this summer, including the only official visit he has used so far back in June.

According to 247Sports’ Rusty Mansell, McDonald plans on announcing his commitment on October 31, the Monday after game weekend. It is likely that he will squeeze a couple more official visits in before Halloween.

The Peach State prospect currently has official visits scheduled to see the Michigan Wolverines on September 10 and Ohio State Buckeyes on September 24, while also eyeing a return to the Swamp for the Utah game for an unofficial stop. The Clemson Tigers and Michigan State Spartans are also in the mix for the young athlete’s talents.

McDonald is ranked No. 296 overall and No. 43 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 311 and 43, respectively. Clemson holds two crystal ball predictions from 247Sports while On3’s Recruiting Prediciton Machine also has the Tigers out front with a 62.5% chance of landing him; Florida is third with a 2% chance behind MSU’s 29.4%.

4-star defensive lineman prospect talks Florida’s recruitment

4-star prospect Kayden McDonald talks to On3 about his recruitment process, highlighting the Florida Gators as a team to watch.

Billy Napier and his staff have had a fantastic summer in terms of bolstering the 2023 class. It seems they’re not stopping anytime soon.

Four-star defensive lineman prospect [autotag]Kayden McDonald[/autotag] recently talked to On3’s Corey Bender about his recruitment process, telling Bender that the Gators spared no expense in making his official visit to Gainesville as memorable as possible.

The Georgia native is being heavily recruited by Florida’s head coach and defensive line coach [autotag]Sean Spencer[/autotag], who both believe that McDonald would be a fantastic addition to the defensive line for the Orange and Blue. That unit is currently considered to be one of the biggest weaknesses Florida has.

The 2023 class is poised to turn things around with its six four-star defensive line commits. Adding McDonald would be yet another high-quality player that could come in and make an immediate impact on the defensive front.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 325-pound prospect is currently projected to commit to Clemson per On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine and has already used one of his five official visits when he visited Florida back in June. He currently has official visits scheduled to Michigan (September 10) and Ohio State (September 24). He is also considering Oklahoma, Georgia, NC State, Michigan State and Texas A&M.

According to the On3 consensus, McDonald is considered the No. 43 defensive lineman and No. 328 prospect regardless of position.

Q: Have we moved on from (Monroe) Freeling? Has he moved on from Clemson?

Clemson is no longer at the forefront of Monroe Freeling’s recruitment. For a while, the Tigers seemed to be the perceived favorite to land the Oceanside Collegiate Academy product, but as we know, things are fluid in recruiting.

To no fault of his own, Freeling was unable to make Clemson’s official visit weekend. It was his parents’ anniversary the weekend of June 3 and it unfortunately just didn’t work out with his schedule. That paved the way for the trio of Vandegrift (Texas) four-star Ian Reed, Permian (Texas) four-star Harris Sewell and Eagle’s Landing Christian Academy (Georgia) four-star Zechariah Owens to verbally pledge to Dabo Swinney’s program in the coming weeks.

While Clemson is set with taking three offensive linemen in the class of 2023, there’s been chatter that Thomas Austin could possibly take a fourth commit. Whether that would be Freeling hinges on a couple of things, but as of August, the likelihood that he’ll end up at Clemson has grown increasingly unlikely.

We know Clemson really likes the prospect, as Swinney and Co. have attended his basketball games and such, but that arrow that was once pointed at Clemson and since trended in another direction.

Freeling has made official visits to Notre Dame, Miami and Florida. Whether Freeling takes those remaining two officials remains to be seen, but the teams most heavily involved appear to be the latter programs mentioned, as well as Alabama and Georgia.

Q: Any traction with any RB?

It goes without saying, that Clemson continues to evaluate its options at the running back position.

A name that I’ve heard in some circles is Heights High (Kansas) four-star John Randle II. While he’s ranked as the No. 20 running back in the nation, per the 247Sports composite, you’re looking at a player whose recruitment is still waiting to take off.

I don’t know how much traction Clemson has with Randle if any, but he’s a name worth monitoring as he heads into his senior season.

Q: How many more do you think we’ll take before we shut it down?

This is always a fun question.

After Ronan Hanafin and Shelton Lewis committed last week, Clemson is now up to 20 total verbal commitments.

My best guess would be two or three more prospects, which would put Clemson’s class at either 22 or 23 commitments. Anything can happen between now and then, whether a player enters the transfer portal or decides to step away from the game like Landen Zanders did earlier this month.

As we know, these things tend to be fluid. That’s not to say that I expect a Clemson player to enter the transfer portal or anything of that nature. More so, we’d be naive to assume that the ever-changing landscape doesn’t affect roster turnover and the number of scholarship players that a program like Clemson has to work with at any given time.

Q: What are the biggest needs now?

Running back. Point blank.

While Clemson recently placed Domonique Thomas on scholarship, it’s worth noting that Keith Adams, Jr. is the last running back to commit to Clemson since Will Shipley did so on May 5, 2020. It’s a position that Clemson hasn’t had much success with on the recruiting trail as of late, just barely missing out on the likes of Trevor Etienne (Florida), Andrew Paul (Georgia) and Jeremiah Cobb (Auburn),

From what we’ve heard regarding CJ Spiller — he’s a good coach with the necessary recruiting chops. Clemson’s lack of movement at the position on the trail shouldn’t be an indictment of who he is as a coach. As we previously mentioned, Spiller did a nice job of identifying a guy like Paul, who was one of the best high school backs in the state of Texas.

Q: Any traction with Tomarrion Parker and a visit for the season?

Yes!

I answered this on our message board, but for our readers who didn’t get a chance to see this, Clemson has a lot of traction with Tomarrion Parker. The four-star defensive end out of Central (Alabama) is eyeing an official date of Oct. 22, which would be the weekend that Clemson plays host to Syracuse at Memorial Stadium.

There is mutual interest here, as Parker wants to take a long, extended look at Clemson, now that the Tigers have extended an offer.

Q: Are we done at WR with the Ronan (Hanafin) commitment or will we continue to push for Tyler Williams to sway him away from the Dawgs?

As of now, Clemson is only planning to take two wide receivers in the class of 2023 and some pretty good ones at that. With Sunday’s commitment, Buckingham & Browne (Massachusetts) four-star wide receiver Ronan Hanafin joined Rockwall (Texas) four-star Noble Johnson, as the two receivers that Clemson will be taking in this class.

Earlier this year, some prospects informed TCI that Clemson was looking to add up to three wide receivers in this class because it was likely going to be losing a number of wideouts after the 2022 season. It’s entirely possible that Clemson’s thinking has changed since the end of January.

That would make Clemson an unlikely suitor for Lakeland (Florida) four-star Tyler Williams, but my hunch is that has more to do with his recruitment trending in the direction of Georgia and less to do with numbers. Williams sent a commitment date of Sept. 27 and will pick between Clemson, Georgia, Texas A&M, South Carolina and Ole Miss.

Williams has one official visit remaining and with a month and change until he renders a college decision, the University of Miami is rumored to be pushing for him to take his final visit to Coral Gables.

Clemson hosted Williams during the program’s official visit weekend from June 3-5. From what we gathered, Williams mostly kept to himself during the weekend’s festivities. That’s not a knock on Williams, who has spoken very highly of Clemson in the interviews he’s done in the past, but rather an observation from a source that we wanted to pass along.

Many in the industry have Williams pegged as a Georgia guy, but that remains to be seen, as other programs continue to push for his commitment. I just wouldn’t expect him to land at Clemson at this time.

Q: Next possible verbal?

I’m not going to make any projections at the moment, but the next possible commitment in terms of announcement timing is North Gwinnett (Georgia) four-star defensive lineman Kayden McDonald. The expectation is that he’ll be taking an official visit to Clemson sometime this fall.
