We forecasted significant changes in Philadelphia after the Birds’ late-season collapse, and the Eagles continue to retool their 2024 coaching staff.

They are reportedly hiring a couple of new defensive position coaches from Seattle.

Vic Fangio is here as the new defensive coordinator, and Philadelphia is expected to hire former Seahawks defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt as their new defensive line coach and is set to hire former Seahawks secondary coach/pass game coordinator Karl Scott as their defensive backs coach, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported.

Scott had spent the last two years as the Seahawks’ secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator.

In Seattle, Scott was responsible for the elite play and development of Devon Witherspoon, Tariq Woolen, Coby Bryant, and Michael Jackson.

The 38-year-old Scott previously coached defensive backs for the Vikings in 2021 and coached the secondary at Alabama from 2018-2020.

Scott was on Nick Saban’s staff along with CB Josh Jobe, QB Jalen Hurts, WR DeVonta Smith, and OL Landon Dickerson.

The NFL’s coach hiring cycle has been abnormally slow this year. That could be one of the reasons the Seahawks haven’t made their reported defensive hirings official as of yet.

So far, we’ve learned that defensive line coach Clint Hurtt is expected to be promoted to defensive coordinator. Former Broncos DC Ed Donatell is also reported to be joining the staff, as well. The last piece of the puzzle is who will replace Andre Curtis as the defensive pass game coordinator.

The Seahawks have been reported to be hiring Karl Scott for this role. He spent the 2021 season on Mike Zimmer’s Vikings staff after three years as Nick Saban’s DB coach at Alabama. There are conflicting reports on this account, though and former Bears defensive coordinator Sean Desai remains a subject of interest.

Fans should expect a resolution soon.

The Saints have promoted DC Dennis Allen to head coach after Sean Payton’s exit. Once his former position is filled the dominoes should fall into place.

Report: Vikings expected to hire Karl Scott as the team’s defensive backs coach

The Minnesota Vikings are hiring Karl Scott, who finished up his third season as the Alabama Crimson Tide’s cornerbacks coach.

Minnesota has seen a mass exodus of staff members this offseason. According to a report, the Vikings have gone about filling another one of the voids.

Per AL.com’s Matt Zenitz, Minnesota is expected to hire Karl Scott to be the Vikings’ new defensive backs coach. Scott was Alabama’s cornerbacks coach. He had just finished up his third year with the Crimson Tide.

The move comes after the Vikings saw former defensive backs coach Daronte Jones leave to be LSU’s next defensive coordinator. Minnesota hired Jones in 2020. He had worked in the NFL for the past five seasons.

Defensive backs are an important position for the Vikings. Once a staple of the Minnesota defense, the unit has been filled by younger, more inexperienced players who need to make great strides in 2021. Scott will be tasked with helping cornerbacks like Cameron Dantzler and Jeff Gladney improve in their second seasons.
