Former LSU offensive linemen Kardell Thomas back in the transfer portal

A former LSU offensive linemen is back in the transfer portal after spending a year at Florida A&M.

A former LSU offensive lineman is in the portal for the second time.

According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, [autotag]Kardell Thomas[/autotag] is looking for a new home after spending last year at Florida A&M.

Thomas began his career at LSU in 2019 but didn’t see any offensive snaps until 2020. He saw his most action in 2021 when he made two starts and played 118 snaps at right guard.

He stuck around for Brian Kelly’s first year in 2022 but played sparingly. That’s when Thomas hit the portal and ended up at FAMU.

Thomas played 621 snaps with the Rattlers last year, making 10 starts and earning the Rattlers’ second-best pass-blocking grade, per Pro Football Focus.

A former top-100 recruit, Thomas could be looking to make a jump back to the FBS level. He’s one of the few remaining college players who was a member of LSU’s 2019 national title team, but due to a redshirt and the COVID year, he has another year of eligibility.

Kardell Thomas announces transfer destination

Thomas has announced his next stop.

A former five-star has found a new home after entering the transfer portal.

[autotag]Kardell Thomas[/autotag], a Louisiana native who has been with LSU since 2019, will join Florida A&M.

Thomas was one of the top offensive linemen in his class but never carved out a full-time role at LSU. Injuries hampered Thomas’ development and with younger guys surpassing him on the depth chart, it was time to look elsewhere.

Thomas is from Baton Rouge and was always a fan favorite with the purple and gold. He played 197 offensive snaps for LSU with 118 of those coming in 2021, where he made two starts against Louisiana-Monroe and Texas A&M.

Thomas was one of several depth pieces on LSU’s offensive line to enter the portal, which has left the unit undermanned throughout the spring. LSU has been looking to bolster its interior offensive line depth with the transfer portal.

With a couple of years of eligibility left, Thomas has a chance for a fresh start at FAMU.

OL Kardell Thomas leaving LSU as a graduate transfer

Thomas appeared in 11 games with two starts in four seasons with the Tigers.

The Tigers are set to return four of five starters on the offensive line as things currently stand, but they’re set to lose quite a bit of depth.

That depth situation got even worse on Wednesday as junior offensive lineman [autotag]Kardell Thomas[/autotag] opted to enter the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Thomas appeared in 11 games in four seasons with two starts, both of which came in 2021. He appeared in four games this fall.

Thomas is a former consensus top-100 recruit from University Lab High School in Baton Rouge and a five-star recruit per the 247Sports Composite, will have two remaining years of eligibility.

With Thomas gone, LSU will look to players like [autotag]Marlon Martinez[/autotag], as well as true freshmen [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag] and [autotag]DJ Chester[/autotag], as depth options for the 2023 season.

Seven LSU offensive linemen sign NIL deals with Hooters

That’s certainly one way to do NIL.

The restaurant chain Hooters is dipping its toe in the NIL game, as it has reportedly signed a number of college football players to name, image and likeness deals.

And they’re all offensive linemen.

Among the list of players to sign, seven of them play for the Tigers: [autotag]Kimo Makane’ole[/autotag], [autotag]Lanson Smith[/autotag], [autotag]Fitzgerald West Jr.[/autotag], [autotag]Miles Frazier[/autotag], [autotag]Marcus Dumervil[/autotag], [autotag]Xavier Hill[/autotag] and [autotag]Kardell Thomas[/autotag]. Two of them — Frazier and Dumervil — are in the mix for starting jobs as fall camp winds down.

Frazier is a transfer from Florida International expected to win one of the starting guard jobs, while Dumervil is a sophomore who was a rotational piece last season but could expand his role this fall. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] said that he has missed part of fall camp with an ankle injury.

This may not be the most conventional NIL deal, but the bag is the bag, and LSU’s linemen won’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
