Both Kansas State and Oklahoma State are coming off bye weeks.

The Cowboys have been Under fan favorites, cashing Unders in 9 of their last 10 games dating back to last season. Their last result was an Over — a 34-27 loss at Iowa State Sept. 23 with an O/U line of 36.5 — breaking a string of 9 consecutive Unders.

This series vs. KSU has followed suit as the Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings. The most recent game, a 48-0 Kansas State win at home, went Under the posted total of 57.5.

Oklahoma State’s offense has struggled and it’s running into a tough defense in K-State.

The Cowboys rushing attack ranks 104th, averaging 121.8 yards per game (YPG), according to NCAA.org. The Wildcats defense against the run ranks 6th, allowing 73.2 YPG. Overall, OK-State’s offense is 100th at 343.5 YPG, while KSU is 15th at 482.2 YPG.

This game has a lop-sided feel to it, something unexpected from a Mike Gundy-coached team at OK-State.

Oklahoma State hasn’t shown any life this season and it’s unlikely to beat a superior opponent. Despite having a loss, the Wildcats (-465) are far superior … even on the road.

Don’t waste your money on a line this high.

Against the spread

BACK KANSAS STATE -11.5 (-115) coming off a bye week.

After losing 30-27 as 3-point favorites on a last-second, 61-yard field goal at Missouri Sept. 16, the Wildcats defeated UCF 44-31 before going on bye — KSU was a 6-point favorite in the win.

Oklahoma State enters on a 2-game skid, falling at Iowa State 34-27 as a 3.5-point underdog Sept. 23  and getting upset at home as a 7-point favorite by South Alabama 33-7 Sept. 16.

The Cowboys have been played 3 quarterbacks — Alan Bowman, Gunnar Gundy and Garret Rangel — but none have really stepped up. OSU will have difficulty moving the ball against KSU.

The Wildcats being huge favorites on the road might seem a bit concerning, but against below-average team in the Cowboys, this line is fitting.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 53.5 (-110).

As mentioned, Oklahoma State has gone Under in 9 of its past 10 games. While Kansas State has played 3 Overs in a row and is 3-1 Over on the season, it will find it hard to drag the Oklahoma State offense to such a high total.

This game was a 48-0 final in favor of Kansas State last season. It could be the same story Saturday.

KANSAS STATE (+135) is the play as the slight road underdog in this Big 12 battle.

The ranked Wildcats might catch a break if Thompson is, indeed, sidelined, but chances are they would be able to take care of the skidding Cowboys either way.

Against the spread

KANSAS STATE +3.5 (-115) is the play if you absolutely, positively believe that Oklahoma State -3.5 (-105) is going to win by a bucket. If not, take the better value with K-State on the money line.

While the Wildcats are just 1-4 ATS in the past 5 games on the road, there is a concern there. However, Kansas State is 13-3 ATS in the past 16 games against winning teams, and it is 14-6 ATS in the past 20 games overall.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma State -2.5 (-115) is 1-4 ATS in the past 5 games overall, and 1-4 ATS in the past 5 against winning sides, too. And, again, Thompson’s health is a huge factor.

Over/Under

OVER 143.5 (-105) is the way to go here.

While Thompson’s health is a concern for the prospects of the Oklahoma State offense, Kansas State is all about the Over lately.

The Wildcats have already notched wins against Stanford and Nevada by 17 or more points. The closest game for K-State was actually a 31-23 win on Sept. 11 over Southern Illinois, a Top 10 team at the FCS level.

The Cowboys narrowly avoided upsets against FCS Missouri State and Tulsa in the first two weekends, winning those outings by a combined 12 points. Oklahoma State hit the road for Boise State last weekend, and it escaped with a 21-20 win as 3.5-point underdogs. The Under is 2-0-1 for the Cowboys.

Money line

KANSAS STATE (+180) is a value play in this conference opener, even though the game is in Stillwater.

Yes, Oklahoma State (-230) won at Boise State last week, but K-State is battled tested. They dismantled a very, very good Nevada team last weekend with relative ease, 38-17, shutting down one of the more unheralded quarterbacks in the nation.

The Cowboys have been rather one-dimensional and rush-heavy, while narrowly escaping. Oklahoma State’s three wins have been by a combined 13 points. They’ve been playing with fire and will finally get burned.

Against the spread

I like KANSAS STATE +5.5 (-110) straight up, so of course I like them catching the points.

K-State is 9-3 ATS across the past 12 games on the road, while going 11-4 ATS in the past 15 as an underdog and 12-4 ATS in the previous 16 conference tilts.

Not only that, but the Wildcats have dominated this series, at least against the number, cashing in eight of the past 10 meetings, and five of the previous six trips to Stillwater.

Over/Under

The slight lean is to the OVER 47.5 (-108). While OK State has been rather one-dimensional, running the ball heavily, and that’s a reason to take the Under usually, the Over has dominated in this series in recent years.

The Over is 6-1 in the past seven battles in Stillwater, and 11 of the previous 15 meetings overall.

K-State tossed up 38 points last week for its first Over result, and the offense has improved every week this season. I think the effectiveness of the K-State offense outweighs the run-heavy and moribund Oklahoma State offense for a slight Over.
