Former Colorado State WR sets official visit date with Florida

Gators will get this veteran wide receiver on campus this weekend to see if he likes what the Swamp has to offer.

The college football transfer portal is wide open and Florida football is doing its due diligence with those available through the de facto amateur free agency system. The Gators have already brought in a handful of players to replace those who have departed but there is still room for more.

One of Billy Napier and Co.’s transfer targets is wide receiver [autotag]Justus Ross-Simmons[/autotag], who played for the Colorado State Rams prior. The former three-star recruit in the 2022 cycle entered the portal on April 16 and has now set an official visit with the Orange and Blue.

According to Swamp247, Ross-Simmons will be in Gainesville this coming Saturday for his OV with Florida, — consistent with what he initially announced as a potential date. The Gators’ program caught his eye early on after entering the portal.

“I got some interest in the Gators,” Ross-Simmons noted. “I got a former teammate that attends the Gators, that’s on the team right now, Clay Millen. Having someone I already know, boosts my confidence in a school because I trust Clay’s word.”

The 6-foot-3-inch, 215-pound pass-catcher has already made a stop with the Syracuse Orange last weekend and is still working on trips to see the Cincinnati Bearcats and Michigan State Spartans.

Ross-Simmons caught 45 passes for 724 yards and three touchdowns in his sophomore season at Colorado State, adding to the 26 catches for 424 yards and three touchdowns he accumulated his freshman season. He is a three-star transfer portal recruit according to 247Sports, ranking at No. 643 overall and No. 100 at the wide receiver position.

Colorado State transfer plans make official visit to Florida Gators

Ross-Simmons has a connection to UF already through a former teammate, giving an extra incentive to the former Colorado State Ram.

The Florida Gators have done well so far when it comes to fishing for prospects in the 2025 recruiting cycle. Now the program is starting to dip into the transfer portal after its official opening on Tuesday, and they might’ve found a new wide receiver to add in their arsenal.

Colorado State transfer Justus Ross-Simmons was contacted by the Gators this week and it’s being reported by Swamp247 that both parties are working to set up an official visit.

“I haven’t set down and talked about any official visits or anything with them yet, but I’m pretty sure I will soon,” Ross-Simmons said. “Hopefully when I talk to them again, we can talk about an OV. Maybe sometime next week, but we need to talk about that more.”

Ross-Simmons has a connection to UF already through a former teammate, giving an extra incentive to the former Colorado State Ram.

“I got some interest in the Gators,” Ross-Simmons said. “I got a former teammate that attends (UF), that’s on the team right now, (quarterback) Clay Millen. Having someone I already know, boosts my confidence in a school because I trust Clay’s word.”

The sophomore transfer recorded 724 reception yards last season on top of 45 catches, but only scored three touchdowns in last season’s campaign. He’s still a solid option to have behind the likes of UF wideout Eugene Wilson III.

With the opening of the transfer portal this week, there are sure to be more candidates now that most programs have played through their spring schedules.
