10 pending free agents the Ravens should not re-sign

We’re looking at ten pending 2024 NFL free agents that the Baltimore Ravens should not re-sign

Baltimore faces an offseason of change after Mike Macdonald bolted for the Seahawks job. Anthony Weaver landed the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator job, and 26 players, headlined by Patrick Queen, are set to be free agents.

Justin Madubuike landed the franchise tag, leaving Baltimore -$9 million over the salary cap ahead of the early tampering period.

With an urgent offseason underway, we’re looking at ten pending free agents who shouldn’t return.

Former Texas A&M DL Justin Madubuike receives good news regarding his future in Baltimore

Former Texas A&M star defensive lineman will continue dominating in the trenches for the Baltimore Ravens in 2024

Over the last decade, Texas A&M has sent dozens of football players at nearly every position to the NFL, while a select number of alumni represent the League, including Baltimore Ravens star defensive lineman Justin Madubuike.

Drafted by the Ravens in the 3rd round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Madubuike’s profile skyrocketed during the 2023 season, as all his hard work over the past three years earned him his first Pro Bowl nod, and even more impressive and vital to his financial future, he was named Second-team All-Pro.

Finishing the year with 56 tackles (38 solo tackles), 13 sacks, and two forced fumbles, The Ravens knew that it might take some time to get a long-term deal made, while the risk of losing one of the top defensive playmakers at just 26 years of age could be devastating to their DL future.

Making what on paper looked inevitable, it was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler that the Ravens had franchise-tagged Justin Madubuike. If a long-term deal is not made by the start of the 2024 season, he is set to net $22 million next season.

Ravens place the franchise tag on DT Justin Madubuike

With Baltimore unable to agree to a contract extension, the Ravens have placed the franchise tag on defensive tackle Justin Madubuike.

Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta had clarified that the organization would place the franchise tag on star defensive tackle Justin Madubuike if no deal could be reached.

With the March 5 deadline in effect, Baltimore has placed the tag on the All-Pro defensive tackle DeCosta confirmed.

DeCosta had this to say about the move.

“We were unable to agree on a contract ext. w/Justin before the deadline and will use the franchise tag,” GM Eric DeCosta said. “Justin is a great player and person, and we’ll continue to negotiate long-term deal with him.”

Madubuike, 26, bet on himself last spring, and he is coming off a breakout season in which he produced a career-high 13 sacks for a Ravens defense that led the NFL with 60 sacks last season. Madubuike totaled more sacks last season than he did in his first three seasons combined (8.5 sacks).

Madubuike’s 13 sacks last year are the fifth-most in a single season by a Baltimore player and are tied for the most by a Ravens defensive tackle.

With All-Pro linebacker Patrick Queen likely to depart for a massive free agent deal, retaining Madubuike is the Raven’s biggest priority in a critical offseason that’ll see 26 players test free agency.

The Baltimore Ravens have a long list of players set to hit the open market once free agency begins in March. The most important player of the bunch is defensive tackle Justin Madubuike.

Fresh off a breakout season in which he netted a league-high 13 sacks among interior defensive linemen that earned him a trip to the Pro Bowl and second-team All-Pro honors, the price to retain Madubuike has skyrocketed with Spotrac projecting him to land a four-year, $81.2 million contract with an average annual salary of $20.3 million.

The deadline to use the franchise tag is approaching on March 5, meaning the two sides will need to reach a new deal before then to avoid that route. The price for the franchise tag at every position was recently revealed for this offseason, with defensive tackles coming in at $22.1 million.

The good news for Baltimore is that the salary cap for the 2024 season was announced to be more than expected at $255.5 million, giving them more room to fit the $22.1 cap hit from the tag under the cap.

It would still be preferable for the Ravens to reach a new deal with Madubuike before resorting to the tag to give them more money to operate with in free agency to try and build the best possible roster for the upcoming season.

Ravens’ biggest winners from NFL raising the 2024 salary cap to $255.4M

We’re looking at the Baltimore Ravens biggest winners from the NFL raising the salary cap to $255.4 million

The 2024 NFL offseason is underway for Baltimore, and the Ravens’ focus will shift to reshaping the roster on both sides.

The NFL announced a massive $30.6 million increase from 2023, under the original salary cap set in 1994 of $34.6 million.

The 2024 cap is officially $255 million, and where things currently stand, Baltimore is expected to have roughly $18,538,828 available, according to Over The Cap.

The Ravens are set to have 26 pending free agents, and with another likely retool schedule on defense, the organization could conjure up a scheme for more flexibility.

With the added cap space now official, we’re looking at the biggest winners from the news.

6 Interior defensive linemen Vikings could target in free agency

From Chris Jones to Christian Wilkins, here are six players the Minnesota Vikings could look to bring in via free agency to upgrade their defense at defensive tackle.

Unlike the interior of the offensive line, the interior of the defensive line isn’t an area of need for the Minnesota Vikings. They have some talent at the position already in-house with nose tackle Harrison Phillips and defensive tackles Sheldon Day and Khyiris Tonga.

They also have 2023 fifth-round pick Jaquelin Roy at the position, who showed some promise during the season. The Vikings have a solid group up front already.

With that said, the league is constantly changing and evolving. If you’re not constantly looking for ways to improve your team, you may as well pack your bags now – cause you’re not going to last long in this league.

The defensive tackle group they have in Minnesota right now is adequate, but there are plenty of options available for them to upgrade – if the front office decides that’s where they want to spend their money.

It’s important to note that the six players we’re going to look at in this are listed without regard to the schemes they come from or what they’re best suited to play in (i.e. 4-3 vs. 3-4). Defensive coordinator Brian Flores implements so much variety in his defensive gameplans that he can make use of talent regardless of the perceived “fit” in the scheme.

So, with that disclaimer out of the way, let’s take a look at six options for the Minnesota Vikings to upgrade on the interior during free agency.

31 free agents the Seahawks could target in 2024 – one from every other NFL team

Reviewing 31 free agents around the NFL – one from each team – that the Seahawks could target to sign in 2024.

The Seahawks’ salary cap picture for 2024 may look ugly right now. After last night’s simple restructure of Geno Smith’s contract they are about even with the league’s cap limit this year. That doesn’t leave a whole lot of room to maneuver. However, general manager John Schneider still has plenty of options to change the team’s cap picture in a hurry.

Fans should probably expect mostly mid-level signings and bargain hunting in free agency, but we can’t completely rule out a splash signing. Here are 31 pending free agents (one from every other team) that Seattle could consider signing when the market opens next month.

We have included a wide range of options, from big-name, big contract targets to under-the-radar type free agents. Our primary focus was on the interior of both sides of the line of scrimmage, but we didn’t ignore interesting players at any spot except for quarterback – where we would prefer to roll with either Geno Smith, Michael Penix Jr. or nobody.

You may see potential replacements for Leonard Williams, Jamal Adams and Tyler Lockett, a few old familiar faces, a whole host of possible upgrades at guard and just about every high-end pass rusher that’s about to hit the market except for Chris Jones and Josh Allen – who will both most likely be out of Seattle’s price range. Let’s get to the list.
