Watch: Snoop Dogg narrates Chargers QB Justin Herbert’s record-breaking season

American rapper Snoop Dogg told the story of Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert’s rookie season.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was awarded the NFL AP Offensive Rookie of the Year award at Saturday’s NFL Honors.

Not many anticipated Herbert earning the award, let alone having the type of season that he did, which included multiple broken records.

After being forced to start in Week 2 against the Chiefs, Herbert took the driver’s seat and it was all gas, no breaks for the former No. 6 overall selection.

Herbert set rookie records for total touchdowns (36), passing touchdowns (31), completions (396), multi-passing touchdown games (10), games with eight 300 yards passing and six three-passing touchdown games. He was just 39 yards short of Andrew Luck’s rookie record of 4,374 yards passing.

American rapper Snoop Dogg had the honors of narrating the sensational season of Herbert on the telecast.

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert played his way into being named the NFL’s top offensive rookie from the 2020 season.

Herbert’s outstanding campaign was a bit unexpected. It all began after being called upon to start just five minutes before the Week 2 matchup against the Chiefs due to QB Tyrod Taylor’s medical emergency.

Herbert was able to put together quite the performance with 302 passing yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Little did we know the game was only just a glimpse of greatness. Herbert went on to throw for over 4,300 yards and totaled 36 touchdowns, the most by any rookie in NFL history.

Chasing history: What’s on the line for Chargers QB Justin Herbert?

Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert is on his way to breaking more records.

What rookie quarterback Justin Herbert is doing this season is like none other, breaking records on a weekly basis and giving fans reason for optimism for years to come.

This past week, Herbert earned his eighth NFL Rookie of the Week honor for his performance against the Raiders, tying the record for most honors through eleven weeks of the season with Ben Roethlisberger.

If Herbert can be named Rookie of the Week twice in the final two games, he will pass Roethlisberger’s all-time mark (9).

However, there’s a lot more notable accomplishments that the rookie can achieve in Weeks 16 and 17.

Herbert just needs one more passing touchdown to own the all-time rookie mark for passing touchdowns thrown (28), which can be done this Sunday against the Broncos.

Herbert is also inching closer to most passing completions in a single season, which is held by Carson Wentz (379). He also has a chance at Andrew Luck’s record for most passing yards in a rookie season (4,374).

Herbert has completed 353 of his 531 passes (66.48%) for 3,781 yards, 27 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. He also has four rushing touchdowns.

Herbert is the current favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year at -800, per BetMGM. Vikings’ Justin Jefferson is second at +500 and Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa is third at +5000.

ESPN insider makes lofty prediction for Chargers QB Justin Herbert

The only way this happens is if Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert starts Week 1.

Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray has been pegged as one of the front runners to win Defensive Rookie of the Year by oddsmakers already.

However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler believes Los Angeles possesses a potential Rookie of the Year on the other side of the ball.

Fowler, along with eight other NFL experts, made bold predictions for the 2020 draft class this upcoming season. For Fowler, he believes that quarterback Justin Herbert is going to win the OROY honors.

I’m betting Herbert gets on the field sooner rather than later despite the presence of Tyrod Taylor. The Chargers will simplify the playbook and let Herbert rip corner routes to Keenan Allen all day. There’s enough talent on this offense to make a rookie look good.

I believe that Herbert would have a legitimate shot, but there’s one thing that’s holding him back for the honors: Tyrod Taylor. Taylor is expected to enter the season as the starting signal-caller, while Herbert sits to work on the deficiencies in his game before taking the reins.

There’s a possibility that Herbert could see the field in 2020, but it likely wouldn’t come until later down the stretch, and that’s assuming the team performs poorly with Taylor under center, which leads the decision to change quarterbacks. Or Taylor goes down with an injury.

Herbert isn’t in a position where he will start away like Joe Burrow of the Bengals. That already hurts his chances and there are many immediate impact rookie skill players that he would have to fend off in order to walk away with the award.

The fact that Herbert isn’t likely to start Week 1 is the best thing for him, though. Even though he has the physical traits, arm talent and play-makers around him to flourish, there are mental aspects of the game that need development before he takes over as the team’s starter.
