A highly touted Clemson in-state offensive line target returned to Tiger Town two weekends ago.

Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star tackle Josiah Thompson, a top-100 national prospect in the 2024 class, made an unofficial visit to Clemson for the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over NC State on Saturday, Oct. 1.

“I really enjoyed the visit to the Clemson and NC State game,” Thompson told The Clemson Insider.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound junior came away impressed by the environment at Death Valley during the top-10 matchup at night.

“The atmosphere was amazing,” he said, “and it’s awesome to see how much the fans have love towards the players and team.”

Thompson’s family accompanied him to Clemson, and it was their first time taking in a game there.

“My dad, mom and little brother came with me,” he said. “They really enjoyed.”

Thompson, who received an offer from Clemson at the beginning of June when the Tigers began extending offers to 2024 prospects, has been able to catch up with both offensive line coach Thomas Austin and head coach Dabo Swinney.

“It has been a while since I saw coach TA in person. It was great seeing him again,” Thompson said. “I spoke with Coach Swinney on the phone later on that week after the game.”

Thompson also traveled to Clemson for a visit back on March 12 and competed at the Swinney Camp in the summer of 2021.

Where do the Tigers stand with him right now following his latest trip to campus?

“Clemson is an amazing school with amazing opportunities,” he said. “I can see myself playing for the Clemson Tigers.”

Thompson visited Georgia for its game vs. Auburn this past Saturday and is set to be in Knoxville for Tennessee’s game against Alabama this Saturday.

Georgia, Auburn and Tennessee have offered Thompson, along with schools such as South Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas A&M.

A consensus four-star prospect according to the major recruiting services, Thompson is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State for the 2024 class by 247Sports, while he is ranked as high as the nation’s No. 71 overall prospect in his class by the 247Sports Composite, which considers him the No. 5 offensive tackle in the class.

We hope everyone had a great weekend.

It’s time for this week’s edition of The Insider Report.

Clemson making a move with Peach State TE

Clemson’s tight end recruiting in the class of 2024 is only getting started and a name worth monitoring is Carrollton (Ga.) four-star Caleb Odom (pictured above).

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with Odom, who was one of the top prospects in attendance for Clemson’s 30-20 win over NC State at Death Valley on Saturday, Oct. 1.

“It was crazy,” Odom said in a phone interview recently regarding his visit. “The atmosphere was just electric. It was just insane. I just felt like the crowd was crazy. I don’t know, I’ve never seen something like the pregame, how they roll out of the buses and run down the hill. That kind of stood out to me, definitely the pregame. I just felt like the fans were cheering nonstop. I just felt like it was crazy.”

Odom has been in constant contact with Kyle Richardson since Sept. 1. It was Clemson’s tight ends coach who extended Odom the invitation to the NC State game and made sure he spoke with him at length during his first trip to The Valley.

Odom said that his relationship with Richardson is one of the better ones that he currently has and that it was nice to finally put a name to a face.

“He was just telling me that they love what they see on film and stuff,” Odom recalled of his conversation with Richardson. “He was telling me that they take the offer process really slowly. He was gonna give me a call later (last) week, so hopefully it’s good news. He was just telling me that they were glad to have me down.”

According to Odom, Richardson said that he was an offer-worthy prospect.

“Hopefully they will offer soon, though, I would really love it,” he said regarding a potential offer from Clemson. “Just knowing how they treat the players outside of football… Just knowing I can be in an environment like that, especially during gamedays with the crowd. A place like Death Valley is just crazy.”

Tigers making a move with 5-star linebacker

It’s no longer a secret that Clemson is one of the favorite schools of Jadon Perlotte.

The class of 2025 five-star linebacker out of Buford (Ga.) recently made his first-ever gameday visit to Death Valley for Clemson’s top-10 showdown against NC State.

“It was great,” Perlotte recently told The Clemson Insider regarding his visit. “That’s the most fans I’ve ever seen and we got to run down the hill. I didn’t see any open spots.”

Perlotte said that he has a great relationship with most of Clemson’s staff and spent a lot of time around the Tigers’ defensive assiatnts before and after last Saturday’s game.

What is it about Clemson that appeals to a prospect like Perlotte?

“The culture,” he said. “I sit in there and listen for hours, listening to Coach Dabo preach about the system and how they do things differently. They’re a family team and that’s all they care about is the person beside them. That’s what I pay attention to.”

Perlotte said that his mom has been helping him plan recruiting trips and that she really loves Clemson, so he probably has to make it to three more games or so down there.

Right now, Perlotte is patiently waiting for an offer, one that he’s hopeful will come sooner than later.

5-star OL, nation’s top-ranked ’25 prospect high on the Tigers

Clemson recently played host to the nation’s No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 class regardless of position, per multiple recruiting services.

Providence Day School (Charlotte, N.C.) five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr. attended the Tigers’ 30-20 victory over NC State at Death Valley on Oct. 1.

It wasn’t his first time in Tiger Town, as he visited twice in the spring. However, it was Sanders’ first gameday visit to Clemson, and he detailed his experience in a recent interview with The Clemson Insider.

We’ll publish our full story from the interview with Sanders in the morning, but here’s some of what the 6-foot-7, 250-pound sophomore had to say about the visit:

“The Clemson game, that was definitely a big game for me. I enjoyed myself a lot. The atmosphere with them playing NC State – it was a top-10 matchup – was really cool. That was a really cool experience. I got to experience the new LED lights in the stadium and the new scoreboard. Those two additions to the stadium really made the experience more fun.

“But overall, I had a great time. When I got to the stadium, I was able to meet all the coaches and all the players, too. … Then also they let us go to the top of the hill for the pregame for them to run down the hill. That was definitely the coolest experience ever, just to experience how steep that hill really is, because I always hear it’s steeper than it looks. … So, I enjoyed that a lot, and just the experience overall – the atmosphere, the fans, the facility – it was really cool. So, I enjoyed the whole thing.”

Sanders made the trip to Tiger Town with his parents, and he said “they enjoyed it a lot,” particularly the family atmosphere. For Sanders personally, it was the atmosphere and coaching staff that stood out to him the most.

The Tigers typically don’t offer prospects until the summer before their junior year, so according to Sanders, the coaches told him to stay patient and “trust the process” with them – “just do what you’ve got to do in the classroom and on the field and just keep being who I am,” he said.

Sanders said he has also been to South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and East Carolina recently. He’s looking to check out NC State and Georgia before season’s end but doesn’t have any visits scheduled as of now.

He intends to return to Clemson this offseason, and perhaps even again this season, in order to further his relationship with head coach Dabo Swinney and offensive line coach Thomas Austin.

As for where Clemson stands with Sanders right now, the Tigers have certainly made a strong early impression.

“Clemson’s definitely one of my favorite schools, for sure,” he said.

In-state OL target impressed by ‘amazing’ Death Valley atmosphere

Another big-time offensive line prospect from the Carolinas who took in the clash between Clemson and NC State is Josiah Thompson, a four-star tackle in the 2024 class from Dillon (S.C.) High School.

The 6-foot-6, 280-pound junior traveled to campus with his parents and little brother.

It was the family’s first time attending a game at Death Valley.

“The atmosphere was amazing,” Thompson told The Clemson Insider, “and it’s awesome to see how much the fans have love towards the players and team.”

Thompson visited Georgia for its game vs. Auburn this past Saturday and is set to be in Knoxville for Tennessee’s game against Alabama this Saturday.

We asked Thompson – who received an offer from Clemson back in June – where the Tigers stand with him right now following the visit, and he said, “I can see myself playing for the Clemson Tigers.”

Thompson is ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State for the 2024 class by 247Sports, while he is ranked as high as the No. 71 overall prospect in his class by the 247Sports Composite.

Star-studded visitors headed to Death Valley for Clemson-N.C. State game

Clemson will again play host to some top prospects for Saturday’s 7:30 p.m. game against N.C. State at Death Valley.

Here are some of the bigger names The Clemson Insider has confirmed as planned visitors for the Clemson-N.C. State game:

A couple of headliners among the recruits expected to be in attendance are a handful of five-stars in the 2024 and 2025 class, respectively. Jefferson (Ga.) linebacker Sammy Brown, Buford (Ga.) athlete KJ Bolden, Buford (Ga.) linebacker Jadon Perlotte and Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day School offensive tackle David Sanders, Jr.

Sanders is the No. 1 overall player in the 2025 class, per 247Sports, which tabs Bolden and Brown as the No. 1 safety and No. 1 linebacker, respectively, in the 2024 class.

Clemson, of course, doesn’t offer recruits as young as Sanders, per the program’s policy. But the elite o-line prospect would love to add Clemson to his offer list in the future.

“That offer would mean the world to me,” he told The Clemson Insider back in May. “Clemson is definitely one of the schools that I like the most. So, that offer would mean the world. Knowing the coaches and them knowing my family, that just means even more. And then getting back down there and building that relationship with Coach Swinney and Coach Austin, it would just be great.”

Saturday will be of relative importance for Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin, as Clemson is set to host two of the Palmetto State’s top prospects in Woodland (Dorchester, S.C.) four-star offensive tackle Kam Pringle and Dillon (S.C.) four-star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson.

The 247Sports Composite considers Pringle and Thompson to be interchangeable Nos. 1 and 2 in the rankings.

Additionally, Greenville (S.C.) High School four-star Blake Franks is planning to attend Saturday’s game. Franks (6-5, 310) participated in the Dabo Swinney Camp this summer and visited Clemson multiple times since this past March. He received an offer from Clemson in late July.

He has heard from Clemson offensive line coach Thomas Austin and other members of the Tigers’ staff since the calendar turned to Sept. 1, when college coaches across the country could begin directly contacting junior prospects in the class of 2024.

“He (Austin) told me I’m a big priority,” Franks said to TCI recently, “and that he’s going to come to one of our games this year.”

Franks holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, including offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Penn State and South Carolina along with Clemson.

He told TCI earlier this month that while he didn’t know at the time which schools comprise his top five, he definitely thinks Clemson “is high up there” on his list.

Perhaps the most intriguing prospect on the offensive side of the football that will be in The Valley this Saturday is Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day School 2024 four-star quarterback Jake Merklinger.

The top-100 national recruit and the No. 9 ranked quarterback in the 2024 class per the 247Sports Composite rankings, has made three trips to Clemson in the last calendar year. While he hasn’t yet boasted an offer from the Tigers, he is firmly on their radar and moved up their recruiting board after his performance at Swinney Camp earlier this summer.

A couple of big-time receiver prospects are expected to be on hand as well in Burlington (N.C.) Hugh M. Cummings four-star Jonathan Paylor, Grimsley (Greensboro, N.C.) four-star Alex Taylor,  Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) four-star Sacovie White and King George (Va.) three-star Mekhai White.

The Clemson Insider originally reported that Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star James Madison II would be in attendance, but his status for Saturday’s game is currently unknown with Hurricane Ian lashing through Florida.

Clemson will also play host to Perry (Ga.) Dakari Anderson, an intriguing receiver prospect in the class of 2024, holds a lone offer from Texas A&M.

Carrollton (Ga.) 2024 four-star tight end Caleb Odom announced that he will be in The Valley this weekend. Odom, who is considered to be a top-15 tight end in his class by the 247Sports Composite rankings, told The Clemson Insider back in August that he had been invited to some camps, but there was no hard interest from the Tigers just yet.

That appears to have changed as Odom, who will be at Saturday’s contest versus N.C. State, said that this weekend is “gonna be crazy.”

Switching over to the defensive side of the football, one of the top defensive back prospects planning to visit Clemson for Saturday’s game is Tavoy Feagin, a four-star cornerback from Carrollwood Day School in Tampa, Fla.

Feagin, a 6-foot, 170-pound junior, was the first player at his position to receive an offer from Clemson when the Tigers began dispensing offers to class of 2024 recruits back on June 1.

After traveling to Clemson for an unofficial visit in early March, Feagin made his way back to campus on June 2. Later in June, he included the Tigers among his top 10 schools, along with Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Ohio State and Oklahoma.

“The reason why I put Clemson in my top 10 was because I really like the coaching staff and the atmosphere,” he said to TCI after dropping the list.

Feagin is ranked as high as the No. 73 overall prospect in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

The other top defensive back prospect that will be in attendance is Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star cornerback Asaad Brown.

Brown — ranked as the nation’s No. 9 cornerback and No. 116 overall prospect in the class of 2024 by 247Sports — dropped a top-10 list earlier this month featuring Clemson along with Arkansas, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, LSU, Florida State, North Carolina, NC State and Penn State.

Among other notable recruits on Clemson’s anticipated guest list for Saturday’s game are Central (S.C.) D W Daniel 2023 wide receiver Jaylen Brown-Wallace, Lawrenceville (Ga.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman Justin Greene, Buford (Ga.) 2024 four-star defensive end KingJoseph Edwards, Chattanooga (Tenn.) Christian School 2024 four-star athlete Boo Carter, Pike Road (Ala.) 2024 four-star defensive lineman Malik Blocton, Taylor (Katy, TX.) 2024 three-star tight end Ian Flynt, Ponte Vedra (Fla.) 2024 three-star offensive lineman Jake Guarnera, Hough (Cornelius, N.C.) kicker Nolan Hauser, Northwestern (Rock Hill, S.C.) 2024 RB Turbo Richard, Lynchburg (Va.) Liberty Christian Academy 2025 four-star running back Gideon Davidson, 2025 Rabun Gap-Nacoochee (Georgia) School 2025 tight end Marshall Pritchett, Buford (Ga.) 2026 defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright and Cass (Cartersville, Ga.) 2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter.

Clemson 2023 quarterback commitment Christopher Vizzina of Birmingham (Ala.) Briarwood Christin School, offensive line commit Harris Sewell of Permian (Odessa, TX.), defensive end commit AJ Hoffler of College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy, linebacker commit Jamal Anderson of Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek and offensive line commit Ian Reed of Vandegrift (Austin, TX.) will also be in The Valley on Saturday.

Clemson ‘will most definitely be a top school’ for premier Palmetto State OL

One of the Palmetto State’s premier prospects, ranked as a top-100 national recruit by multiple services, continues to stay in touch with Clemson. Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star Josiah Thompson – a 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle in the …

One of the Palmetto State’s premier prospects, ranked as a top-100 national recruit by multiple services, continues to stay in touch with Clemson.

Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star Josiah Thompson – a 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle in the class of 2024 – communicated with Tigers offensive line coach Thomas Austin again recently.

“I spoke to Coach TA a week ago,” Thompson told The Clemson Insider earlier this week. “He would love to have my family and I come up for a game this fall. We also made a FaceTime call so I can speak with a few other coaches as well.”

Thompson is ranked as the top prospect in the state of South Carolina by 247Sports, while the 247Sports Composite, Rivals and ESPN all consider him the No. 2 prospect in the Palmetto State. He is tabbed as a top-100 national prospect in the 2024 class regardless of position by the 247Sports Composite (No. 68), ESPN (No. 76) and 247Sports (No. 98).

The rising junior, considered one of the nation’s top 10 offensive tackles in his class by all the major services, intends to take in a contest at Death Valley with his family this fall.

“We are planning to visit a game this season,” he said, “but we’re not sure which one yet.”

Looking ahead beyond this fall to next year, Thompson is already circling the Tigers’ signature summer recruiting event — their annual All In Cookout – on his calendar.

“I remember Coach TA talking about a junior cookout they had at the end of summer, but it was only for juniors,” he said, “so I’ll be looking forward to that next year, so I’ll be able to spend more time with Coach.”

Speaking of Austin, Thompson feels his bond with Clemson’s O-line coach keeps getting stronger.

“My relationship with Coach Austin has been growing since I first spoke to him,” he said.

Austin and the Tigers extended an offer to Thompson at the beginning of June when Clemson formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class.

LSU, Florida and Duke have given Thompson his latest offers this month, joining Clemson and schools such as Georgia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Florida State, NC State, Michigan State and Notre Dame on his offer list.

Right now, things are still the same as far as where Clemson stands with Thompson in his recruitment. And that’s a good thing, considering he remains high on the Tigers.

“Nothing has changed with the Tigers,” he said. “They will most definitely be a top school.”

Thompson most recently traveled to Tiger Town on March 12, when he had what he called an “amazing” visit with his family. Along with Clemson, he named South Carolina, NC State, North Carolina, Georgia and East Carolina as other schools he’s looking to visit this fall.

He is ranked as high as the country’s No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2024 class by 247Sports.

Tigers offer four-star offensive tackle from South Carolina

The LSU Tigers recently offered 2024 four-star offensive tackle Josiah Thompson.

Josiah Thompson is a 2024 four-star, six-foot-six, 280-pound Offensive Tackle from Dillon, South Carolina where he plays for Dillon High School. The Dillon Wildcats (not the Dillon Panthers from Friday Night Lights) finished last season 9-1 with a loss to Camden in the SCHSL (South Carolina Football State Championships) AAA state semifinals.

Film Analysis: Usually, on plays where offensive linemen are assigned to “Pull”, guards are the ones who do the pulling. For the Dillion Wildcats, that guy is Thompson. He does it from his left tackle position. All credit to him because he is a quick guy for someone that is six-foot-six and 280-pounds. He has no problem pulling from his spot to the B gap (the gap between the guard and tackle) on the right side of the line.

The Clemson Insider recently caught up with one of the nation’s top-ranked offensive tackles and a top Clemson target in the class of 2024.

TCI checked back in with Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star Josiah Thompson to get the latest on the No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State and No. 4 offensive tackle nationally in the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

The 6-foot-7, 290-pound rising junior has hit the road to see a couple of schools this summer.

“I was able to visit Alabama and South Carolina this summer,” Thompson said. “I was also invited to Oklahoma on the 29th and Tennessee on the 30th of this month.”

Thompson most recently traveled to Clemson on March 12, when he had an “amazing” visit with his family, and he hopes to return to Tiger Town for a game at Death Valley during the upcoming season.

“I wasn’t able to visit Clemson this summer,” he said, “but I would like to attend one of their games this year.”

Georgia and Tennessee gave Thompson his latest offers in June, joining Clemson and schools such as South Carolina, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Florida State, NC State, Michigan State and Notre Dame on his offer list.

It’s still pretty early in the recruiting process for Thompson, but are any schools sticking out to him at this point?

“I’m starting to add to my list of the colleges I’m really interested in,” he said, “but there are plenty of schools I’m still (trying to) visit.”

Clemson extended an offer to Thompson at the beginning of June when the Tigers formally turned the page to offering prospects in the 2024 class.

The Tigers certainly have Thompson’s attention as a college option he is very intrigued by.

“My interest in Clemson is growing,” he said. “Clemson is most definitely a college I’m really interested in.”

Thompson is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in the state of South Carolina, No. 4 offensive tackle in the country and No. 99 overall prospect in the 2024 class, while the 247Sports Composite rankings tab him as the No. 2 prospect in the Palmetto State, No. 6 offensive tackle nationally and No. 76 overall prospect in his class.

Clemson ‘serious’ contender for No. 1-ranked Palmetto State prospect

This past week, Clemson pulled the trigger on an offer to a four-star offensive lineman ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State for the 2024 class, per 247Sports.

Dillon (S.C.) High School tackle Josiah Thompson announced the offer from the Tigers on Thursday, June 2.

“It feels awesome to have another opportunity to play at the next level in the ACC conference,” Thompson told The Clemson Insider.

The 6-foot-7, 290-pound rising junior found out about the offer through his head coach at Dillon, Kelvin Roller.

“My high school head coach informed me that Clemson was offering,” Thompson said. “I was so excited and blessed to earn it.”

He wasn’t the only one in his family fired up about the offer from the Tigers.

“My parents were excited as well,” Thompson said, “because we had family and friends that attended Clemson.”

Thompson has been building a relationship with Thomas Austin, and when he extended the offer, Clemson’s offensive line coach conveyed a message to the nation’s No. 4 offensive tackle in the 2024 class, as ranked by both 247Sports and the 247Sports Composite.

“The overall message from Coach TA was to keep working,” Thompson said.

Thompson most recently traveled to Clemson on March 12, when he had an “amazing” visit with his family, and he plans to return to Tiger Town in the near future.

“It will most definitely be this summer when I visit,” he said.

Clemson joined schools such as South Carolina, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Florida State, NC State, Michigan State and Notre Dame on Thompson’s offer list.

Where does Clemson stand in Thompson’s recruitment now that the Tigers have officially entered the mix for his services with Thursday’s offer?

“With it being a home-state school, they will be serious contenders,” he said.

In addition to being ranked as the No. 1 prospect in the state of South Carolina and No. 4 offensive tackle nationally for the 2024 class by 247Sports, the same service considers him to be the No. 99 overall prospect in the country for his class regardless of position.

Clemson has extended an offer to the No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State for the 2024 class, per 247Sports, and one of the nation’s top-ranked offensive tackles in Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star Josiah Thompson.

Thompson – the No. 4 offensive tackle in the country for the 2024 class, according to 247Sports – made an unofficial visit to Clemson on March 12 and was recently back in touch with new Tigers offensive line coach Thomas Austin.

Thompson is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in the state of South Carolina, No. 4 offensive tackle nationally and No. 99 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

The Clemson Insider last spoke with Thompson in April. At the time, he detailed what a potential offer would mean and where the Tigers currently stood in his recruitment, even without an offer.

“I have the opportunity of playing for Clemson Football one day,” he said. “Based on my relationship with Coach Austin, he would love to coach me as a football player.”

“Clemson is another school I would love to play for,” he added. “I love how the facility works and how committed the coaches are to their jobs.”

The No. 1 prospect in the Palmetto State for the 2024 class, per 247Sports, and one of the nation’s top-ranked offensive tackles is Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star Josiah Thompson.

Thompson – the No. 4 offensive tackle in the country for the 2024 class, according to 247Sports – made an unofficial visit to Clemson on March 12 and was recently back in touch with new Tigers offensive line coach Thomas Austin.

“I have spoken to Coach Thomas Austin this past Thursday,” Thompson told The Clemson Insider. “He asked how things were going and if I’m planning on coming to one of their camps this summer. I told him I’m planning on attending one of their camps this summer.”

Thompson (6-7, 290) is excited to participate in the Dabo Swinney Camp this June and hopes to put a couple of his characteristics as an offensive lineman on display when he works out with Austin at the camp.

“I’m looking forward to it a lot, plus to be coached by Coach Austin,” he said. “I want to show him I’m coachable and able to move my body very well.”

Thompson camped at Clemson last summer when Robbie Caldwell was still the Tigers’ offensive line coach.

“Coach Caldwell was able to coach me through a drill,” Thompson recalled. “He loved the way I was able to bend and stay low and have a good base.”

When Thompson reflects on his most recent trip to Clemson last month, one thing about the visit experience stands out to him more than anything else.

“What stuck out most to me on my visit to Clemson in March was the coaching staff,” he said. “I loved the way my family and I were able to talk to Coach Austin with his family during the visit.”

Based on what he’s heard from Austin and Clemson’s staff, Thompson feels like an offer from Clemson is coming in the future and he’ll have the chance to suit up for the Tigers down the road.

“I have the opportunity of playing for Clemson Football one day,” he said. “Based on my relationship with Coach Austin, he would love to coach me as a football player.”

UNC Charlotte gave Thompson his latest offer on Monday, joining South Carolina, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Florida State, NC State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Coastal Carolina and East Carolina on his current offer list.

Right now, Thompson says “everything is still pretty wide open” in his recruitment.

Clemson has yet to offer any offensive linemen in the 2024 class, as the Tigers typically don’t start offering prospects until the summer before their junior year. But where would Thompson say the Tigers stand with him at this point in the recruiting process?

“Clemson is another school I would love to play for,” he said. “I love how the facility works and how committed the coaches are to their jobs.”

Thompson is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 prospect in the state of South Carolina, No. 4 offensive tackle nationally and No. 99 overall prospect in the 2024 class.

In addition to Clemson, he has visited Miami, South Carolina, Coastal Carolina and East Carolina this year.

One of the country’s top young offensive linemen, who hails from the Palmetto State, returned to Clemson last weekend for his first visit to the school since last summer when he competed at the Dabo Swinney Camp.

Dillon (S.C.) High School four-star Josiah Thompson – the nation’s No. 10 offensive tackle in the 2024 class, according to Rivals – was back on campus last Saturday, March 12 to get a closer look at the Tigers’ football program and take in a spring practice.

“The visit was amazing, I enjoyed it. My family did also,” Thompson told The Clemson Insider. “I really enjoyed seeing the way they practice and the facility tour.”

What about Clemson and the visit stood out most to the 6-foot-7, 297-pound rising junior?

“What I like about Clemson is the hospitality and the genuineness of the coaching staff on and off the field,” he said.

Speaking of the staff, Thomas Austin took the time to chat with and get to know Thompson and his family.

Clemson’s new offensive line coach made a great impression on the standout prospect while interacting with them.

“Coach Austin is a great coach,” Thompson said. “He really wants to get to know the recruits more outside of football. He learned a lot about me and my family coming out of the visit, and I love the way I was able to sit and talk to him with my family.”

Thompson was also able to spend some time around Swinney.

“Coach Swinney is genuine, awesome, real cool,” Thompson said of the Tigers’ head coach, “and he expects his players to perform and achieve in life.”

Thompson, who is visiting Coastal Carolina this weekend, has also been to South Carolina this month in addition to Clemson. He visited East Carolina earlier this year.

The Gamecocks, Chanticleers and Pirates have all offered Thompson, along with Notre Dame, Florida State, Miami, NC State and Kentucky.

Clemson, per its program policy, typically doesn’t offer a prospect any earlier than the summer before their junior year. But Thompson said last weekend’s visit to Clemson gave him a better feel for where he stands with the Tigers at this point in the recruiting process.

“It made me feel that I have a chance to be able to play for Clemson,” he said, “and that they will help me achieve greatness.”

Thompson is ranked by Rivals as the No. 10 offensive tackle in the country and No. 183 overall prospect nationally for the 2024 class.
