Former Texas WR Joshua Moore flips commitment to SMU

Joshua Moore is on the move again.

One former Texas wide receiver is on the move in the transfer portal again.

After leaving the team in what only could be described as a not-so-clean break, which included a shouting match with Steve Sarkisian, Joshua Moore decided to take his talents to Texas Tech. There he would have been apart of the new era of Red Raider football under new head coach Joey McGuire.

However, even after enrolling in class in Lubbock, Moore decided to change his mind about where he will finish out his playing career.

Moore announced via Twitter on Monday that he will instead be transferring to SMU, where he will play for Rhett Lashlee.

Moore showed plenty of flashes as a Longhorn, leading the team in receiving in 2020, but this last season fell lower on the totem pole behind Xavier Worthy and Jordan Whittington and struggled mightily at times.

He gives gives SMU an experienced deep threat with 61 catches, 790 receiving yards, and 13 touchdowns in his collegiate career.

Former Texas WR Joshua Moore reveals his transfer location

Joshua Moore will face off with Texas in September.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders got some good news on the day they found out that Erik Ezukanma would be heading to the NFL draft. Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Joshua Moore announced that he would be heading to Lubbock, Texas, to play for new head coach Joey McGuire.

Moore entered the transfer portal after an alleged argument with head coach Steve Sarkisian. After the game against Iowa State, Moore put his name in the portal which came as no surprise. The Longhorns will face off against Moore when Big 12 play opens on Sept. 24 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

Moore now joins an offense led by Zach Kittley, who returned to Tech after Sonny Cumbie left for the Louisiana Tech head coaching position.

This past season Moore caught 24 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns in 2021. In 2020, Moore was the leading receiver with nine touchdown receptions. In the Texas Tech Air Raid offense, he will have ample opportunity to shine in this pass-heavy attack. Jerreth Sterns led the nation with 150 receptions, 1,902 yards, and 17 touchdowns in this offense in 2021.

This might be the best possible spot for the former four-star recruit.

Texas WR targets Evan Stewart, Jordan Hudson post cryptic tweets about Longhorns

Hmm…

In what has likely been the craziest two weeks that the Texas football program has been through in a while, it always seems to get more bizarre. Continue reading “Texas WR targets Evan Stewart, Jordan Hudson post cryptic tweets about Longhorns”

Halftime recap of Texas’ 7-3 lead over Iowa State

Halftime recap of Texas’ 7-3 lead over Iowa State

In a surprisingly defensive battle in Ames. Texas leads Iowa State 7-3.

Iowa State scored three points to open the game off a Bijan Robinson fumble on Texas’ first offensive drive.

Casey Thompson looked a bit off to start the game, prompting Coach Sarkisian to put Hudson Card in the game.

After a couple of sluggish drives, Card and the offense finally broke through.

Midway through the second quarter, Card led a 14 play touchdown drive capped off by a four-yard pop pass to Xavier Worthy for six. Texas picked up two key third-down conversions on the drive, one with a quick pass Joshua Moore that he took for 24 yards, and another with his legs to convert a third down and three.

Texas coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski’s defense played their best half of the season. Holding the Cyclone Offense to 181 total yards and 1-7 on third down.

Here are some of the key stats from half number one.

  • Hudson Card: 6/9 42 yards, one touchdown
  • Bijan Robinson: 11 carries, 65 yards
  • Xavier Worthy: One catch, four yards and one touchdown
  • Breece Hall: 5 carries, 25 yards
  • Brock Purdy: 16/24 140 yards

Everything Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said to the media ahead of the Iowa State game

Considering the early week drama, this media availability was interesting to say the least.

With the team already in the middle of a historically bad losing streak, the Texas football program had multiple off-the-field issues ahead of their matchup with Iowa State.

Steve Sarkisian addressed the media on Thursday as he typically does, and several of the questions were centered around what turned out to be a non-incident with wide receiver Josh Moore and Sarkisian. There were also some questions addressing the monkey in the room (sorry).

With all of this in mind, the Longhorns are still scheduled to head to Ames, Iowa on Saturday to take on a very tough Iowa State team. Although the Cyclones have struggled this season, they’re still very capable of handing Texas their fourth consecutive loss.

Texas is in dire need of not just some soul searching, but finding a way to get over the hump of not being able to play a complete game. The Longhorns have had three straight catastrophic second half collapses, and Sarkisian has been trying to figure out a way to stop the bleeding.

The team could be decimated if they suffer a fourth consecutive loss, but Sarkisian seemed positive and in good spirits on Thursday. Here is everything he said to the media about the Iowa State game.

Texas WR Joshua Moore’s future with team now uncertain after altercation with coaching staff

The wide receiver reportedly had a heated exchange with Steve Sarkisian after Wednesday’s practice.

Junior wide receiver Joshua Moore’s status with the Texas football program is now in question. Continue reading “Texas WR Joshua Moore’s future with team now uncertain after altercation with coaching staff”

Halftime recap of Texas’ 14-10 lead over Baylor

Texas once again has a halftime lead.

Well, we find ourselves in another situation where Texas is leading a Big 12 team at halftime. In a game where both teams have left points on the field, Steve Sarkisian’s team somehow leads Baylor 14-10.

In reality, the offense should have two more touchdowns. Casey Thompson missed a wide-open touchdown to Xavier Worthy and then Joshua Moore dropped a score in anticipation of getting hit. Quite the opposite of what we have seen in previous weeks — the brakes have bit hit a bit in the first half.

Texas’ defense has played well, intercepting Gerry Bohanon twice. Running back Abram Smith has not been as effective, only rushing for 42 yards. The defensive line has been the real difference, specifically Keondre Coburn.

Bijan Robinson’s 15 rushing yards is the real story of the game. The Heisman candidate has been kept in check during his seven carries. If the Longhorns want to avoid another second-half blunder, letting No. 5 loose is going to be key. He is due to break one off eventually.

Key stats

Casey Thompson: 12/16 for 151 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception

Bijan Robinson: Seven carries for 15 yards

Xavier Worthy: Two receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown

Gerry Bohanon: 10/20 for 115 yards and two interceptions

Abram Smith: 10 carries for 42 yards

B.J. Foster/Luke Brockermeyer: One interception each

4 defensive players to watch as Oklahoma takes on TCU

Oklahoma is in need of a bounce back defensive performance and to get it, these four Sooners are vital against TCU.

While the offense continues to find itself and find its quarterback, the Oklahoma Sooners defense will have to continue to show up. After a very poor performance in the first half of the Sooners win against the Texas Longhorns, Speed D found its footing and was absolutely lights out in the second half to hold up their end of the bargain in the team’s improbable comeback effort.

Timely stops, better coverage, and better tackling all led to better results in the second half of the Sooners’ win.

Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch will be hoping they can carry that second-half finish with them as they return home.

They now turn their attention to TCU, who’s offense has been pretty good in 2021.

They are led by Max Duggan and lining up in the backfield with him is former five-star running back Zach Evans and another solid running back in Kendre Miller. Out wide Quentin Johnston, Derius Davis, and Taye Barber are their main threats.

Who are the key Oklahoma defenders in this match-up? Here are four Sooners that are vital to Oklahoma’s chances of slowing down the Horned Frogs offense on Saturday night.

Four Texas players that can step up in Jordan Whittington’s absence

Keilan Robinson?

Texas received news that only adds more salt in the wound after Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma.

Star receiver Jordan Whittington is set to have surgery on his clavicle after going down in the fourth quarter against Oklahoma. Head coach Steve Sarkisian told the media on Monday that there is no timetable for the injury, but it is one that will likely keep him out for an extended amount of time.

Unfortunately, Whittington has been unable to avoid the injury bug during his collegiate career up to this point, as he played in the same amount of games this season (six), as he did in the first two years combined. The sophomore out of Cuero, Texas was poised to have a big season if he could stay healthy.

He is currently tied with Xavier Worthy for the most catches on the team with 24, and is second on the team in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is clearly a huge loss for the Longhorns, as the receiver group has struggled at times to be consistent.

Whittington was quarterback Casey Thompson’s most reliable option on third down, as he had nine third down receptions on the season. The Longhorns lost a good one, and will need someone to step up to fill the void.

Here are four players that can step up and possibly fill the shoes of Whittington.
