Seahawks CB Josh Jobe flattens lead blocker Aaron Rodgers

Josh Jobe of the Seahawks took on Aaron Rodgers and won

Aaron Rodgers took on the role of lead blocker on a New York Jets running play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at MetLife.

Seattle cornerback Josh Jobe wasn’t about to pass up the opportunity to take on and rough up the Jets quarterback without risk of a penalty.

3 underrated Seahawks we’re thankful for

3 underrated Seahawks we’re thankful for

As we gather around the table this Thanksgiving, the Seattle Seahawks are preparing to face the lowly New York Jets in Sunday’s Week 13 contest. The surging Seahawks, winners of two consecutive divisional contests, currently sit atop the NFC West. Fans are feeling particularly thankful this time of year.

The Seahawks have undeniably been powered forward by their superstars, players like Geno Smith, DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Leonard Williams, to name a select handful. Underrated contributors have also made a difference, through impact and effort.

We’ve identified three underrated Seahawks players fans should be thankful for in 2024.

Olu Oluwatimi | C

Sophomore center Olu Oluwatimi was catapulted into the starting lineup two weeks ago following Connor Williams’ shocking midseason retirement. In consecutive starts, the former Michigan standout hasn’t allowed a sack, nor has he been whistled for a single penalty. Seattle’s offensive line is suddenly playing better following some early-season struggles. Oluwatimi has completely transformed this unit at a critical point in the season.

Josh Jobe | CB

Third-year undrafted cornerback Josh Jobe joined the Seahawks’ practice squad in late August. Several injuries at the position offered Jobe an opportunity to play meaningful snaps. He’s since established himself as a near-every down starter next to Devon Witherspoon and Riq Woolen. Pro Football Focus has credited the former Alabama Crimson Tide performer with allowing a passer rating of just 61.8.

Zach Charbonnet | RB

Zach Charbonnet is the clear No. 2 behind Kenneth Walker III, but consider this. Charbonnet’s five touchdowns (four rushing, one receiving) ranks second among all skill players behind just Walker (8). The backup running back has scored more touchdowns than Metcalf and Smith-Njigba this season. He’s been crucial to Seattle’s offensive success.

Seahawks CB Josh Jobe isn’t giving up separation

Seahawks CB Josh Jobe isn’t giving up separation

One of the biggest revelations of the 2024 Seattle Seahawks’ season to date has been the recent emergence of cornerback Josh Jobe. An undrafted free agent defensive back out of Alabama in 2022, Jobe initially joined the Seahawks’ practice squad in late August. He’s since maximized his opportunity to play meaningful snaps.

Injuries to Tre Brown and Riq Woolen catapulted Jobe into the starting lineup for a Week 7 blowout win over the Atlanta Falcons. Jobe’s play earned him another chance against the Buffalo Bills in Week 8. He became the first player to intercept superstar quarterback Josh Allen this campaign, since convincing head coach Mike Macdonald to promote him to full-time boundary starter opposite Woolen, relegating Brown to the bench.

Jobe was outstanding in Sunday’s critical 20-17 Week 11 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. In fact, Jobe has yet to have a game with over 1.6 yards of separation per target allowed, according to Next Gen Stats. As Corbin K. Smith pointed out via social media, that advanced metric indicates his coverage has been tight even on completed throws in his direction.

Pro Football Focus credited Jobe with allowing just two receptions for 17 receiving yards against the 49ers. In a Week 9 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams, the ex Crimson Tide performer forfeited just one catch on four targets for 16 yards. Jobe hasn’t allowed a touchdown in coverage yet this season.

Jobe has also totaled three pass breakups. Opposing quarterbacks are seeing a passer rating of just 54.4 when targeting him in coverage. Finding quality starters in unlikely places helps propel NFL rosters forward. The Seahawks found an absolute gem in Jobe.

Seahawks sign CB Josh Jobe to active 53-man roster

Seahawks sign CB Josh Jobe to active 53-man roster

The Seattle Seahawks are wasting little time as they return from their Bye Week. On Monday, they released linebacker Tyrel Dodson in a shocking move to revamp their linebacking corps. Replacing him on the 53-man roster is cornerback Josh Jobe, who was signed off the practice squad.

In the NFL, sometimes all a player needs is an opportunity, and Jobe has certainly seized his. We wrote over the weekend how strong Jobe’s play has been in the three games he has participated in. Jobe has proven himself to be a formidable defender, something quarterback Josh Allen learned the hard way as the first interception he threw this season was to No. 29 on the Seahawks.

Seattle is at a major inflection point for the year. At 4-5, their season hangs in the balance. Their 3-0 start and lead on the division has evaporated entirely, and are now facing an uphill battle if they want to return to the playoffs or even claim their first NFC West crown in nearly half a decade. If they are going to turn it around, they will need their defense to get back to how it was playing in the first month of the season.

Clearly, the Seahawks believe Josh Jobe is a player who can help the team turn it around.

Seahawks RT George Fant active for first time since Week 1

Seahawks RT George Fant active for first time since Week 1

There is some good injury news for the Seattle Seahawks headed into their Week 9 showdown against the Los Angeles Rams. On Saturday, the Seahawks officially activated right tackle George Fant off the injured reserve list. Fant has been among Seattle’s wounded ever since Week 1 against the Denver Broncos.

The right tackle position for the Seahawks has been devastated by injury this year. Right from the get-go, presumed starter Abe Lucas was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin the year. Fant was lost in Week 1 like I mentioned, and eventually third-stringer Stone Forsythe was placed on injured reserve himself.

Fant and Lucas returned to practice nearly two full weeks ago. While Lucas clearly still has a ways to go, it is encouraging Fant is able to play once more. The Seahawks offensive line has been nothing short of a disaster this year, and they need all the help they can get.

Sadly, the return of Fant means someone needs to be moved off the 53-man active roster. Nose tackle Cam Young, who began the year on the PUP list and was recently activated off it, has been placed on injured reserve.

Additional roster moves include elevating wide receiver Cody White and cornerback Josh Jobe. Last week against the Bills, Jobe was responsible for snagging the first intercepted pass from quarterback Josh Allen of the year.

Seahawks CB Tre Brown in competition for starting job with surprising performer

Seahawks CB Tre Brown in competition for starting job with surprising performer

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tre Brown entered the season as the boundary starter opposite Riq Woolen. Brown played fairly heavy workloads in Weeks 1-6 before suffering an ankle injury. He was sidelined for Week 7, but was deemed healthy enough to be active in Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Surprisingly, Brown did log a single snap. Practice squad call-up corner Josh Jobe played 51 snaps (67% of all Seahawks defensive plays) after logging a 94% workload (65 snaps) in Brown’s absence in Week 7. Jobe is now in contention to retain the starting job opposite a healthy Riq Woolen, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.

Pro Football Focus credited Jobe with allowing three receptions on five targets for 81 receiving yards against the Bills on Sunday. He allowed a long-catch of 35 yards, and forfeited 14 yards after catch. Jobe also intercepted Bills quarterback Josh Allen, his first interception of the season.

Jobe was outstanding in the Week 7 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. The former Alabama standout was credited with two pass breakups and giving up just three catches on seven targets (less than 50% completion percentage). Jobe earned a stellar coverage grade of 66.6 versus the Falcons.

The Seahawks have rode a rollercoaster over the previous two weeks, being on opposite ends of blowouts. A surprising performer has emerged in Jobe. Brown may have a difficult time reclaiming his starting gig.

Seahawks suffer worst loss of season, fall 31-10 to Bills at home

Seahawks suffer worst loss of season, fall 31-10 to Bills at home

The Seattle Seahawks took the field on Sunday and hardly looked competitive against the Buffalo Bills. Once more, the Seahawks were bullied in their own home. Only this time, it was the least competitive we’ve seen from this team in quite awhile.

Seattle has lost at Lumen Field for their third-straight home game. The last time they accomplished this “feat” was during the 2021 season when they dropped their first four home games… that streak was actually five games as it started with the 2020 Wild Card loss to the Rams the year prior.

The Seahawks did narrowly avoid failing to score a touchdown at home for the first time since November 2002 when they lost 31-9 to the Broncos, but this silver lining is a cold comfort.

Right from the get-go, the Bills were clearly the better team. Buffalo marched 90 yards in 14 plays, eating over nine minutes off the clock. This was despite the team was flagged four times, but Seattle could not take advantage. In fact, the Bills were guilty of 13 penalties for 85 yards. It is immensely frustrating the Seahawks were unable to have any of those play to their advantage. But, then again, the Hawks were just as sloppy, with 11 penalties for 82 yards.

Seattle’s offense was incapable of moving the ball, recording only 233 yards on 47 plays. The worst culprit was the fact the team could not run whatsoever. Buffalo’s rush defense has been highly suspect all year, but on Sunday they prevented the Seahawks from gaining any momentum.

Quarterback Geno Smith wasn’t much better, either. Smith completed 21-of-29 passes for 212 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. Smith’s interception came at a most inopportune time. Seattle was trailing 17-3, but made it across midfield when his pass was snatched by the Bills. Seven plays later, Buffalo made it 24-3 and effectively delivered the knockout blow.

The Seahawks’ up and down season continues. They started the year with three-straight wins, then lost their next three. They blew out the Falcons on the road for their most complete victory of the year, and followed it up with their worst home loss (by margin of defeat) since their 42-7 blowout loss to the Rams in 2017.

Speaking of the Rams, that’s who the Seahawks have next. Frustratingly, Los Angeles looks like they are back to being a legitimate threat. Wide receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are back, and they just took down the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday Night Football last week so they will be well rested.

First half recap: Seahawks trail Bills 14-3

First half recap: Seahawks trail Bills 14-3

This story was updated to add new information

Once more, the Seattle Seahawks have a slow start in the first half… and at home, no less. The Seahawks are hosting the 5-2 Buffalo Bills, who look every bit the part of an AFC contender. Seattle, on the other hand, are struggling to keep pace.

The Bills are dominating the Seahawks in all major statistical categories:

  • Total yards: 224 to 96
    • Passing: 152 to 95
    • Rushing: 74 to 1
  • Time of possession: 18:07 to 11:53
  • First downs: 15 to 6
  • Total plays: 35 to 23
  • Yards per play: 6.4 to 4.2

There are only two reasons why this score isn’t uglier than it should. First off, the Bills have been penalized an astonishing 7 times for 48 yards. They cannot seem to get out of their own way. In fact, the penalties are the doing a better job of slowing Buffalo down than the Seahawks are. The second reason is because of cornerback Josh Jobe stealing a possession away from the Bills with his interception. It is the first Josh Allen has thrown all season/

The primary culprit in Seattle’s slow start is the offense, which yet again, cannot seem to get anything going in their first halves. This is routine for them, aside from two or three games this year. Geno Smith has completed 10-of-13 passes for 95 yards, while Kenneth Walker III has five yards on six carries. The inability to get the ground game going is hurting Seattle to a disproportionate degree.

Buffalo will get the ball to start the second half.

Watch: Seahawks CB Josh Jobe forces Josh Allen to throw first INT of the year

Watch: Seahawks CB Josh Jobe forces Josh Allen to throw first INT of the year

The Seattle Seahawks are locked in a defensive showdown with the Buffalo Bills on a rainy Week 8 game at Lumen Field. Despite the Bills having a clear advantage in total yardage, the game remains 7-3 in Buffalo’s favor.

However, the Seahawks have managed to keep it tight thanks to solid defense since the Bills’ opening drive. Easily the biggest play of the defense (so far) has been cornerback Josh Jobe intercepting Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen in the second quarter. It is the first interception Allen has thrown all year.

Allen has been known for being reckless with the ball at times, but has been exceptional at securing it better this year. However, this streak came to an end in Seattle.

Unfortunately, despite the fact Jobe returned the ball to Buffalo’s seven-yard line, the Seahawks were unable to get any points from the outstanding field position. Seattle decided to go for it on 4th-and-goal from the Bills’ one, and got stuffed. At the time of this article’s publication, Buffalo leads Seattle 7-3 with two minutes left in the half.

Seahawks officially activate S Jerrick Reed II from injured reserve

Seahawks officially activate S Jerrick Reed II from injured reserve

The Seattle Seahawks have made a trio of roster moves on Saturday ahead of their Week 8 showdown with the Buffalo Bills. Making his debut this season will be safety Jerrick Reed II, who began the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Reed recently returned to practice last week, and will look to get his first action of the year on Sunday.

Reed had a 21 day window to make the active 53-man roster once returning from the PUP list. If he had missed this opportunity, he would have been shut down for the season. Fortunately, that is a scenario we won’t have to discuss.

Originally a sixth-round selection by the Seahawks during the 2023 NFL draft, Reed played in 10 games before tearing his ACL, prematurely ending his rookie campaign.

Seattle made other transactions as well on Saturday, elevating cornerbacks Josh Jobe and Faion Hicks to the active roster. Both Hicks and Jobe played last week against the Atlanta Falcons. Jobe played well, recording six tackles and defending two passes. Hicks logged a tackle as well.
