Jets sign former Redskins WR Josh Doctson

The Jets have signed former Redskins wideout Josh Doctson.

The New York Jets have added another weapon to their offense.

The team announced Saturday that it has signed former Redskins and Vikings wide receiver Josh Doctson.

Doctson was a first-round pick out of TCU by the Redskins in 2016. In three seasons with the Redskins, Doctson made 81 catches for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns.

The 27-year-old was a surprise cut by the Redskins this past September. Doctson ended up being signed by the Vikings after being waived, but he only appeared in one game and recorded no stats.

The Jets have a lot of uncertainty at the wide receiver position. Their top receiver, Robby Anderson, is a free agent and could be on his way out of New York. Meanwhile, Quincy Enunwa has major health concerns and Demaryius Thomas is also a free agent. The one staple at wide receiver is Jamison Crowder in the slot. Vyncint Smith and Braxton Berrios are under contract as well.

There’s no risk in signing Doctson to a deal. Either he performs well in training camp and makes the roster or he gets cut with no harm.

Former Vikings receiver Josh Doctson signs with Jets

Former Vikings wide receiver Josh Doctson has found a new team.

After finding some success with Kirk Cousins in Washington, wide receiver Josh Doctson reunited with his quarterback in Minnesota this season.

But the move didn’t go as planned, and now Doctson has found a new team.

The wide receiver has signed with the Jets after the Vikings released him in November.

After he signed a one-year deal with Minnesota, Doctson had to sit out much of last year due to injury. He played just one game and was not targeted.

The Redskins drafted Doctson in the first round of the 2016 draft. He had two seasons where he totaled more than 500 yards receiving. One of those seasons was when Cousins was still with the Redskins.

For a first round pick, the Redskins probably expected him to be near the 1,000 yard territory. He had eight touchdowns in his time with Washington as well. Maybe the Jets will be able to utilize some of Doctson’s untapped potential.

Former Redskins WR Josh Doctson signs with New York Jets

After being released by the Redskins ahead of the 2019 season, Doctson will look to realize his once-high ceiling with Sam Darnold in NY.

Another former member of the Washington Redskins has found a home in New York with the Jets.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Josh Doctson, a former first-round pick in Washington, has signed a contract with the Jets after spending the last several months as a free agent following his dismissal from the Minnesota Vikings in November of 2019.

Doctson, who had his fifth-year option declined by the Redskins and was subsequently released before the 2019 season, will now join up with former teammate Jamison Crowder in the Jets offense. Should he be able to at long last find his footing in the NFL, he could be a major asset for the Jets, who are expected to lose both Robby Anderson and Demaryius Thomas in free agency this year.

After being limited all week in practice with a hamstring injury, Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen is officially listed as questionable for Monday night’s game against the Seahawks.

Thielen injured in the hamstring in Week 7 against the Lions and re-injured it in Week 9 against the Chiefs.

The team cut Josh Doctson earlier in the week, so the prospects look good for Thielen to play, but he did say that he would not play if he was not 100 percent, which is the right play.

If Thielen can’t play, we’ll continue to see more of rookie Bisi Johnson.

To round out Minnesota’s injury report, linebacker Ben Gedeon (concussion) is out.

Nose tackle Linval Joseph (knee), safety Harrison Smith (hamstring), safety Anthony Harris (groin) and defensive tackle Shamar Stephen (knee) are all questionable.

We’ll get the official status of these players at 5:50 p.m. CT on Monday. Stay tuned.

Vikings cut WR Josh Doctson, sign LB Cameron Smith

Doctson’s time in Minnesota didn’t have a lot of memories.

The Josh Doctson experiment is over in Minnesota.

On Tuesday, the team announced it had released the receiver who had been active for just one game. He was hurt most of the year with a hamstring injury after the Vikings signed him after he was released by the Washington Redskins.

This likely means that Adam Thielen is ready to return from a hamstring injury for Monday Night Football in Week 13 against the Seahawks.

Taking Doctson’s spot on the roster will be linebacker Cameron Smith. Smith was a fifth-round pick out of USC. He spent time on the active roster and the team’s practice squad. With Ben Gedeon dealing with another concussoin, this is a move that makes sense.

And to fill Smith’s spot on the practice squad, the Vikings have signed fullback Johnny Stanton to the practice squad. Stanton, a former Nebraska quarterback, spent some time with the Vikings this offseason as well.

Former Redskins’ WR Josh Doctson waived by the Minnesota Vikings

After being waived by the Redskins this offseason, Doctson has struggled to find a fit so far, and he’s left searching once again.

Former Washington Redskins receiver Josh Doctson is now spending his time looking for a new team after he was cut from the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday.

Doctson, who spent a number of frustrating years in Washington after being drafted in the first round in 2016, was waived by the Redskins this offseason, and went unclaimed, making him a free agent. The Vikings picked him up but were unable to get any more production out of him than the Redskins were. He played in just one game for Minnesota, where he was on the field for seven snaps.

It will be interesting to see where Doctson goes from here, if anywhere. The former first-round talent has had an extremely disappointing NFL career. Here’s to hoping that he finds a fit down the road.

Vikings activate WR Josh Doctson to 53-man roster

The Vikings have finally activated wide receiver Josh Doctson (hamstring) from the injured reserve.

The Vikings have finally activated wide receiver Josh Doctson (hamstring) from the injured reserve.

He’s now eligible to play in Week 11 against the Broncos at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday.

This move isn’t a huge surprise with the Vikings releasing wide receiver Davion Davis (who later signed on the practice squad) to make room for Doctson.

The team signed Doctson prior to the season after he was released by the Redskins.

Doctson was the 22nd-overall pick by the Redskins in the 2016 NFL Draft, just a spot ahead of Laquon Treadwell, who is now his teammate.

In his three seasons with Washington, Doctson had 81 receptions for 1,100 yards and eight touchdowns. He played the 2016 and 2017 seasons with Kirk Cousins at the helm of Washington’s offense.

If active on Sunday, he’ll join Stefon Diggs, Bisi Johnson and Treadwell as healthy receivers on the roster. Adam Thielen (hamstring) has already been listed as out.

Vikings place C Brett Jones on IR, sign T Aviante Collins from practice squad

Jones suffered a knee injury that will keep him out for the rest of the season.

The Vikings have place center Brett Jones on the injured reserve with a knee injury.

In a corresponding move, the team signed tackle Aviante Collings to the active roster from the practice squad. The team also signed wide receiver Davion Davis to the practice squad after releasing him on Tuesday.

With the Titans signing fullback Khare Blasingame from the Vikings practice squad yesterday, Minnesota’s practice squad is at 10.

It’s somewhat ironic that Collins is replacing Jones on the active roster considering Collins suffured a similar type of MCL injury that Jones is currently hurt with.

“Sometimes blessings come with bad things,” Collins said via Andrew Krammer of the Star Tribune. “Losing Jones, I know what he’s going through right now. He supported me when I was hurt, we’ll be here to support him.”

It will be interesting to see if the Vikings activate wide receiver Josh Doctson (hamstring) from the injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s game against the Broncos.

The Vikings released wide receiver Davion Davis on Tuesday.

Davis was an undrafted free agent who has spent time going back and forth between the team’s active roster and practice squad.

If I had to guess, the Vikings will probably try to get Davis back on their practice squad.

The Vikings have not made a corresponding roster move, but Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press notes that it could be for Josh Doctson, who is eligible to return from the IR with a hamstring injury.

Wide receiver Adam Thielen (hamstring) missed Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. It feels like a good bet the Vikings would rest him in Week 11 with the team having its bye in Week 12.
