Twitter reacts to the Vikings’ trade for Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs

Here is a look at Twitter’s reaction to the Minnesota Vikings trade for Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs.

The Minnesota Vikings needed a quarterback. Kirk Cousins’ Achilles injury made them the most convincing team to buy at the trade deadline.

The Vikings did what must be done, and shopped with the Arizona Cardinals for quarterback Josh Dobbs. The former Pittsburgh Steelers 2017 fourth-round pick is on his seventh different team. Dobbs’ lone win of 2023 is from Week 3 when the Cardinals beat the Dallas 28-16 at home. With Arizona, Dobbs went 167 for 266 with 1,569 passing yards, eight touchdowns, and five interceptions. On the ground, the 28-year-old carried 47 times for 258 yards and three touchdowns.

Twitter did not hesitate to provide reactions to the trade. Here is a sampling.

Cardinals trade QB Josh Dobbs to Vikings

The Cardinals send Dobbs and a seventh-round pick to the Vikings for a sixth-round pick.

The Arizona Cardinals made a trade before Tuesday’s deadline. Per multiple reports, the Cardinals agreed to trade quarterback Josh Dobbs to the Minnesota Vikings.

Dobbs started the first eight games of the season, leading them to a 1-7 start.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are sending Dobbs and a seventh-round pick to the Vikings for a sixth-round pick in next year’s draft. Schefter notes that there is a possibility for the Cardinals’ seventh-round selection being sent to the Vikings to become a sixth-round pick.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon announced Dobbs would be benched this week. It was perhaps because a deal was in place in principle.

The Vikings found themselves in a position needing a quarterback as starter Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles and has been lost for the season. Dobbs and his seven years and 10 starts of experience now head to Minnesota to either start or back up rookie Jaren Hall.

The trade likely means that the team expects Kyler Murray will be activated from PUP this week, either to start in Week 9 or back up rookie Clayton Tune.

Compensation in Josh Dobbs trade revealed

It’s a low level pick swap for the Vikings trading for Josh Dobbs

The Minnesota Vikings traded for former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs earlier today, and now we know the compensation. According to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Josina Anderson, and others, the compensation was a low-level pick swap.

Reports are surfacing that the Vikings are sending a sixth-round pick to the Cardinals in exchange for Dobbs and a seventh rounder. Schefter has gone on to report that their are conditions involved in the trade that could escalate the seventh round selection to a sixth, though no specific details are available at this time.

It is unlikely that Dobbs starts this Sunday, given the short amount of time he would have to get integrated into the team. However, Dobbs will likely be worked into the team in short order, given the move to go get him. It’s a move that carries very little risk, and could bring a high reward if Dobbs is able to keep the Vikings rolling.

Vikings trade Ezra Cleveland, acquire Josh Dobbs: The Real Forno Show

The Real Forno Show breaks down the Josh Downs and Ezra Cleveland

In wake of the Kirk Cousins’ torn Achilles tendon, the Minnesota Vikings have acquired a quarterback at the trade deadline.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Vikings have traded for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs. The compensation is minimal, as the Vikings send a sixth-round pick for a conditional seventh-round pick and Dobbs.

Dobbs started the first eight games for the Cardinals this season. He has a 1-7 record, but has kept them competitive while they waited for Kyler Murray to get healthy.

What does that mean for the Vikings? We will discuss that in both the short term and long term? Will Dobbs start on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons? Do the Vikings still believe in Jaren Hall or is this just to add depth without Cousins?

The Vikings also traded Ezra Cleveland to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick. What does that mean as well?

We are here to break it all down and more on the latest episode of The Real Forno Show, airing Monday and Wednesday nights at 6 pm central on the Vikings 1st & SKOL YouTube channel.

The reactions to the Vikings trading for Josh Dobbs were all over the place

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired a quarterback to replace Kirk Cousins on the roster. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Vikings traded for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs.

The compensation was minimal, as the Vikings sent a sixth-round pick and got a seventh-round pick back with Dobbs.

It was inevitable that the Vikings were going to acquire a quarterback, but what level of player and price they would be willing to pay was up in the air.

In acquiring Dobbs, they get a veteran with starting experience and someone who can help Jaren Hall as he likely starts his first game on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Twitter was ablaze about the news and the reactions were mixed, but most were happy for Dobbs.

Jonathan Gannon changes mind, benches QB Josh Dobbs in Week 9

Either Kyler Murray or Clayton Tune will start for the Cardinals in Week 9 on the road against the Cleveland Browns.

The Arizona Cardinals are making a change at quarterback this week. Head coach Jonathan, just a day after saying that Josh Dobbs will be his starting quarterback in Week 9, has decided to bench Dobbs and make a change.

He told reporters Monday that either Kyler Murray or Clayton Tune would start, according to Darren Urban.

Sunday night after the Cardinals lost 31-24 to the Baltimore Ravens, Gannon expressed 100% confidence in Dobbs and in him giving the team the best chance of winning.

A night and film review changed his mind.

“Just watching the tape again, talking with the staff, feel like this gives us the best chance to win,” Gannon said, according to ESPN’s Josh Weinfuss.

Gannon said he doesn’t know what day he will know whether Murray or Tune will start. The team will travel to Cleveland on Friday.

Dobbs might not even be active for the game. He might be the emergency third quarterback.

In Dobb’s eight starts, the Cardinals were 1-7 and he completed 62.8% of his passes for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions.

He also rushed for 258 yards and three scores.

Cardinals bench Josh Dobbs one day after naming him starter vs. Browns

The Browns will not see Josh Dobbs after all.

Just one day after stating Josh Dobbs would start against his former team as the Arizona Cardinals travel to take on the Cleveland Browns, the 1-7 team has made a move. 3While the hope of Kyler Murray is not completely dead for the Cardinals, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that it will be rookie Clayton Tune who will get that start “barring a significant change of plans.”

The Browns head home after a 1-1 stint on the road, most recently off of a loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Cleveland has uncertainty at the quarterback position themselves as head coach Kevin Stefanski has not committed to PJ Walker this week after three rough outings. This means either Deshaun Watson will be healthy enough to play, or they may turn back to fifth round rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson.

Either way, Sunday’s matchup in Cleveland has the potential for some ugly quarterback play.

POLL: Who should start for the Cardinals vs. Browns in Week 9?

Jonathan Gannon said it would be Josh Dobbs. Should it be him, Kyler Murray or Clayton Tune?

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon took any intrigue out of the week leading up to the team’s Week 9 road game against the Cleveland Browns. He said postgame that Josh Dobbs would start in that game.

It will not be Kyler Murray, who is nearing a return from PUP and not rookie Clayton Tune.

The question for fans is who you think should start in Week 9.

Dobbs has been both pretty good and bad, although Gannon has “complete confidence” in Dobbs. The players all rally around him.

Murray is in the final stages of his return. He has not gotten a full week of first-team reps yet.

Tune, a fifth-round rookie, is a complete unknown.

Dobbs threw two interceptions in the team’s 31-24 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday but also threw two touchdown passes to get them back in the game.

Josh Dobbs to start for Cardinals vs. Browns in Week 9

Kyler Murray’s return will be delayed at least one more week.

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon decided Sunday not to play any games with the situation at quarterback. Josh Dobbs will start for Arizona in Week 9 next week when they face the Cleveland Browns on the road.

Kyler Murray is close to a return but it will be delayed at least another week.

He was designated to return from the PUP (physically unable to perform) reserve on the Wednesday leading up to their Week 7 game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Cardinals must activate Murray from PUP by Wednesday before their Week 10 game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Last weekend, it was reported that Murray would make his return either in Week 9 or Week 10. Gannon would not commit to Murray in Week 10, saying the situation is “day-to-day.”

Dobbs threw two interceptions in the Cardinals’ loss to the Ravens on Sunday but was not benched in favor of rookie Clayton Tune.

“I have complete confidence in him and I thought he would give us the best chance to get back in the game,” Gannon said after the game. The Cardinals would rally to get back into the game.

Dobbs will get to start against the Browns next week. He played for them last season and re-signed with them in the offseason before the Cardinals traded for him after the preseason.

The Cardinals are 1-7 with Dobbs as a starter. He has thrown eight touchdown passes and five interceptions.
