Ravens release final injury report for Week 9 matchup vs. Saints

The Baltimore Ravens released the final injury report for the Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

The Baltimore Ravens released the final injury report before the Week 9 game against the New Orleans Saints.  The names on the injury report keep increasing, with a key player at a key position being deemed questionable.

For the second straight week, tight end Mark Andrews hasn’t practiced and is listed as doubtful for Monday night. Andrews did play last Thursday in Week 8 even though he didn’t practice the week of, but he ended up injuring his shoulder and left the game before halftime.

After missing the Thursday night game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Josh Bynes practiced all week and should be good to go for Monday.  The offense is going to need every player to step up if Mark Andrews does in fact miss the game. Running back Gus Edwards also missed his third-straight day at practice, and is listed as doubtful.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh discusses ILB Roquan Smith picking up team’s defense

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh talks about how inside linebacker Roquan Smith is picking up the team’s defense

The Baltimore Ravens traded for inside linebacker Roquan Smith on Monday before the trade deadline concluded. After trades, it’s important for the players involved to pick up the team’s playbook in a rapid manner, putting in the work to get caught up.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was asked about Smith picking up the defense in his first week in Baltimore. Harbaugh said the two-time All-Pro will be ready to roll, relaying his excitement about the newest addition to the roster.

“He’s doing well. I talked to him as a matter of fact yesterday walking out of the building. He’s pretty excited; I think he’s close. It’s just a matter of when he comes off, and then we’ll start working with him as soon as the docs and [head certified athletic trainer] Adrian [Dixon] take him off, and [executive vice president and general manager] Eric [DeCosta] puts him onto [the roster] to practice.”

It’s going to be really interesting to see the defensive game plan now that Smith is part of it.  Smith, combined with fellow linebackers Tyus Bowser, David Ojabo, Josh Bynes, Patrick Queen, and Malik Harrison, will look to wreak havoc on the opposing quarterbacks.

CB Marlon Humphrey says ‘it’s just a pleasure’ being part of Ravens

Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey talked about how much of a pleasure it is to be a part of the team

The Baltimore Ravens beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Thursday Night Football”, bringing their record to 5-3 on the season.  It’s been up and down so far through eight weeks, but their latest victory seems to have given hope to players, coaches, fans and more as they can continue building on their momentum heading into Week 9.

Humphrey talked to the media postgame about the love he has for the team, saying that “it’s just a pleasure” being part of the team. He seemed overjoyed in the fact that their Week 8 win felt like such a team one, and is excited to see if they can stack their wins.

“We just have a lot of great guys on this team. It’s kind of crazy, even the guys who aren’t playing like Tyus [Bowser], and Josh [Bynes] and Ronnie [Stanley] sometimes, everyone’s just talking from the beginning of the game to the end of the game. Excitement… It just seemed like today was such a team win; it seemed like everyone had a play that affected the game, that changed the game. Coaches, it’s just a pleasure being on this team, and the way we work. All season we’ve been talking about stacking the games, stacking the games, and I feel like once we stack, it’s just going to take off for us. We did that today, and it was great.”

The team now has an opportunity to recharge as they next play the New Orleans Saints. The next step is to play consistent football for four quarters, but it seems like they could be getting hot at the right time.

Ravens HC John Harbaugh discusses snaps of ILB Patrick Queen in Week 1 win vs. Jets

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh talks about Patrick Queen.

The Baltimore Ravens drafted linebacker Patrick Queen in the first round of the 2020 NFL out of LSU. Over the course of his first two seasons, Queen went through many ups and downs, showing tantalizing potential while also having quite a few lows.

This past offseason, Queen worked incredibly hard and has shown improvements in his game. That was on display in the team’s 24-9 win over the New York Jets in Week 1. Queen was in on 100% of snaps, amounting to 84 plays. When asked about Queen, Harbaugh talked about how many snaps he played”.

“We were hoping that he would be a three-down linebacker, and he’s earned that during training camp. I wasn’t anticipating him being out there for 84 plays, that’s a little much. That’s kind of on us too, the whole team. The defense can limit their plays out there with the penalties; we extended some drives with that. And the fourth-down stops; we could have gotten off the field a couple times. Then offensively, we keep the ball longer, and that will limit the defensive snaps too. I’m not so much concerned about he’s out there every snap, it’s just kind of how many snaps, and that’s more of a team effort.”

It can sometimes take players a couple of seasons to fully grasp the NFL.  It will do wonders for Queen and the Ravens if he has a great year, as the team needs a big year from their third-year linebacker. Each game that Queen dominates is a great step in the right direction, and if Week 1 is any indication he’s well on his way to a phenomenal season.

Ravens ILB Patrick Queen shares motivation from not making playoffs in 2021

Ravens inside linebacker Patrick Queen shared the motivation that he got from not making the playoffs in 2021

The Baltimore Ravens didn’t have nearly the season that they imagined in 2021. They were hit extremely hard by injuries, and due to that fact and others finished with an 8-9 record, missing the playoffs for the first time in five seasons.

Baltimore had their veterans report to 2022 training camp on Tuesday, and when asked about the motivation created by not making the playoffs, Ravens inside linebacker Patrick Queen said that “it makes you hungry”. He’s clearly motivated, and it comes through in his answer.

“It makes you hungry. I don’t like having a bad taste in my mouth. And I know, the last game of the season, it didn’t end how we wanted it to, and we didn’t make the playoffs, so the only thing on our minds right now is just getting ready for these preseason games – to go in there and just get off on the right foot – and just be better than what we were last year.”

Queen is entering his third NFL season after being selected at No. 28 overall in the 2020 NFL draft. He has shown plenty of flashes, but seems ready to put together his best season yet in 2022. He and the rest of the team remember what happened last year, and will use that as motivation to work towards their goal of winning a Super Bowl.

Ravens ILB Josh Bynes recalls free agency experience during 2022 offseason

Ravens inside linebacker Josh Bynes explained his free agency experience during the 2022 offseason

The Baltimore Ravens have seen some of the areas of their roster change over the course of the 2022 offseason. They’ve added free agents, seen some of their own free agents leave, and re-signed players who were key for them over the course of 2021.

One of the free agents that Baltimore elected to bring back was inside linebacker Josh Bynes. It will mark the veteran’s fourth stint with the Ravens, and he’s been an extremely reliable player every time he’s suited up in Baltimore. When Bynes was asked about if he always thought he’d re-sign with the Ravens, he recalled his free agency experience, but made it clear that Baltimore was where he wanted to be.

“Oh, yes. I definitely wanted to be here, and that was just the whole idea, of course, towards the end of the season and obviously the free agency process – just to be here and everything like that. We obviously know how free agency goes, and it is what it is. I had opportunities with other teams, and I talked to other teams at the same time, but obviously this is home for me, and this is where I want to be at. So, it feels great to be back here and at a place that knows me inside and out and has [given] me numerous opportunities over the years. Obviously, I’m looking forward to giving that back each and every year going forward.”

Bynes expressed his desire to return to the Ravens during an interview after the 2021 season had concluded, and it always seemed to make sense that Baltimore and Bynes reconnect for another run at things. He provided a spark to a defense that struggled mightily without him to start 2021, and gave fellow inside linebacker Patrick Queen a steady presence to play off of.

Grading the Ravens’ re-signing of ILB Josh Bynes

We grade the Ravens’ re-signing of inside linebacker Josh Bynes

The Baltimore Ravens have seen plenty of their own free agents depart during the 2022 offseason. However, they’ve also re-signed a few of their own, one of which is inside linebacker Josh Bynes, who agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the team.

This will mark Bynes fourth stint with Baltimore, dating back to when he signed with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent during the 2012 offseason. Each time he’s returned to the team he’s been a steady presence who’s a willing tackler and underrated in pass coverage.

In his second and third go-arounds with Baltimore, Bynes was added to the active roster in the middle of the regular season and provided stability to the inside linebacker core as well as the entirety of the defense. During the 2021 season he helped the young linebackers on the roster such as Patrick Queen, and there was a noticeable shift in how the Ravens played.

Baltimore was interested in another free agent inside linebacker in former Seattle Seahawk Bobby Wagner. He ended up signing with Los Angeles Rams, and so the Ravens ended up going with a familiar face in Bynes.

All and all, Bynes represents a value signing that won’t break the bank but can provide solid play on the field as well as great leadership off of it. It feels like a smart move for the team, and one that many have gotten behind.

Ravens agree to terms with ILB Josh Bynes on one-year deal

The Ravens and inside linebacker Josh Bynes have agreed on a one-year deal.

The Baltimore Ravens have used free agency to bolster certain parts of their roster, whether it be through signing outside players or guys of their own. They’ve added safety Marcus Williams, offensive tackle Morgan Moses, and defensive lineman Michael Pierce while also re-signing fullback Patrick Ricard.

On Friday, it was announced that Baltimore had agreed to terms with inside linebacker Josh Bynes on a one-year deal. The reunion between Bynes and the Ravens marks the fourth partnership between the two sides.

During his three stints with the Ravens that total around five years, Bynes has 201 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, and has started in 28 out of a total of 52 games. Inside linebacker has been a position of need that the Ravens had to shore up this offseason, and getting Bynes back will help. However,  they might draft another player at the position to ensure they have the right amount of talent and depth.

The return of Bynes is good news for young linebackers such as Patrick Queen and Malik Harrison. The veteran brings plenty of experience to the inside linebacker room, and Queen played some of his best football next to Bynes in 2021.
