Auburn’s 2024 recruiting class among the highest average rating per commit

Sometimes its about quality over quantity.

Recruiting is the lifeline of any collegiate athletic program. Auburn football recruiting was in a bad spot when [autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] took over the program in December of last year.

The program’s new frontman, however, has not sat on his hands and has been determined to turn things around. The Tigers are starting to see the fruits of Freeze’s labor as Auburn currently has the seventh-highest average rating per recruit according to On3 with an average rating of 89.99 across its eight commits, six of whom are four-star prospects.

Auburn’s 2024 class is currently ranked 17th in the country and eighth in the SEC by On3 with a score of 88.890. The class is led by [autotag]Joseph Phillips[/autotag] and [autotag]Walker White[/autotag].

Phillips is a linebacker from Tuskegee, Alabama. He is a four-star recruit with a 92.57 rating and is the No. 133 player nationally, the No. 12 linebacker and the No. 9 player in the state of Alabama.

White, a quarterback from Little Rock, Arkansas, is a four-star recruit with a 92.55 rating. He is the No. 135 player nationally, the No. 11 quarterback and the No. 2 player in the state of Arkansas.

As Freeze’s efforts are far from over, Auburn’s 2024 class is bound to keep rising in the rankings.

SEC recruiting rankings: June update

The 2024 recruiting cycle has been kind to the Auburn Tigers thus far. How are they doing compared to the rest of the SEC?

The month of June has been a busy one in the world of recruiting, especially for the Auburn Tigers.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] and staff have welcomed a myriad of popular recruits to visit campus, and have been fortunate enough to earn three commitments at this point in the month.

The month started with the Tigers earning two commitments on the same day. Auburn beat out Ole Miss in the pursuit of three-star wide receiver [autotag]Bryce Cain[/autotag] on June 13. Later that day, four-star safety [autotag]Kensley Faustin[/autotag] announced that he would also be committing to Auburn.

The third commitment of the month was the most notable. [autotag]Joseph Phillips[/autotag], a four-star linebacker from nearby Tuskegee, chose Auburn over Georgia. Phillips is now Auburn’s second-highest-ranked commit for the 2024 cycle, and his commitment is declared a monster win for Freeze on the recruiting trail.

In other refreshing news, three 2024 commits announced that they would be “shutting down” their recruitment. Joining four-star quarterback [autotag]Walker White[/autotag] by doing this trend are tight end [autotag]Martavious Collins[/autotag], running back [autotag]J’Marion Burnette[/autotag], and defensive back [autotag]A’Mon Lane[/autotag].

As the month of June begins its final lap, here’s a look at how Auburn stacks up in recruiting with the rest of the SEC according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Twitter reacts to Joseph Phillips’ commitment

Auburn fans are buzzing after the state’s No. 8 overall player announced his commitment to Hugh Freeze and the Tigers.

It doesn’t matter if it is June, there’s a Freeze warning in effect for Auburn.

[autotag]Hugh Freeze[/autotag] pulled off another amazing recruiting effort by landing four-star linebacker Joseph Phillips on Thursday afternoon. Keeping a talented local player home is an impressive feat in itself, but considering Freeze kept Georgia from stealing him out of Auburn’s grasp is no easy task.

The fact Freeze kept the Tuskegee native from going to Athens is a positive sign for things to come on the recruiting trail, thus giving Auburn a great chance to return to where fans expect the program to finish every season.

Auburn fans, coaches and fellow commits were excited to hear the news of Phillips’ commitment. Here are the best reactions to [autotag]Joseph Phillips[/autotag]’ commitment to the Tigers.

“There’s a couple of other guys on defense that Georgia is trending up for. I’m close to firing one in for Top247 linebacker Joseph Phillips out of Alabama. Phillips is another top target on the board for Georgia at the position.”

The claim has caught on: Georgia has gained three crystal ball predictions for Phillips, including one from Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente, who originally gave Auburn a crystal ball for Phillips.

Auburn is still high on the list according to On3, who has given Phillips a 76.3% chance to commit to Auburn.
