Mets’ José Iglesias will release an OMG remix featuring Pitbull (and surprisingly not Bad Bunny!)

Pitbull and José Iglesias are going to work it out on the remix for the Mets.

New York Mets infielder José Iglesias will release a remix of his hit single “OMG” on October 11 and it will feature Pitbull.

Iglesias, who is also in the middle of playing postseason baseball for the Mets, originally performed his song at Citi Field on June 28. He released this song and music video shortly after that and it debuted at No. 1 overall on the Billboard charts for Latin Digital Song Sales.

The song and its accompanying sign have become a rallying cry for the Mets during their surprising playoff run. So the obvious next step was a remix for the fans to keep the momentum going.

METS: The unlikely origin story of team’s OMG sign, explained

Iglesias, who releases his music under the name Candelita, will drop the remix on October 11.

It will include Pitbull as well as Colombian singer Silvestre Dangond.

These are huge names for any artist, let alone someone whose full-time job isn’t actually as a musician but as a utility infielder. Iglesias said Pitbull “fell in love with” the track the moment he heard it.

It is worth noting that while Pitbull is a major addition to the “OMG” remix, some fans were surprised that the Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny is not on the track.

Bad Bunny, who has won multiple Grammy awards and is one of the most streamed artists in the world, was featured in promotional material for the Mets and showed up at Citi Field for games earlier this season.

Either way, a remix featuring Pitbull during the playoffs is a long way for Iglesias considering that he originally debuted the song in a minor league clubhouse for a Mets affiliate back in April.

Aside from when Lorde appeared on the “Girl, so confusing” remix by Charli xcx, this is easily one of the most anticipated collaborations of the year.

The Mets’ OMG sign, explained: The unlikely origin story of team’s 2024 rallying cry

If you are watching the New York Mets, you are likely going to see a sign in their locker room that reads “OMG” and you may not know why.

If you are watching the New York Mets, you are likely going to see a sign in their locker room that reads “OMG” and you may not know why.

First and foremost: The Mets are a team that uniquely experiences significant humor, whimsy, and joy. Nowhere is that more apparent than when they use a sign that reads “OMG” as part of a celebration. But what does it all mean and where it come from?

The story is quirky and silly and surprising and also makes all of the sense in the word for a team like the Mets.

Veteran infielder José Iglesias is the reason

Walk with us and let’s take you back earlier this season in New York. It was May 31 and the Mets were 24-33 (.438) and at a very low point in the MLB season for the organization. It looked like a rebuilding year.

Iglesias, a 34-year-old infielder who signed a minor league deal with the Mets, was called up to join the majors and made his debut with the team. While it did not seem like a big deal at the time, it was a turning point for the franchise.

They started winning and heading from spring into summer, the vibes were getting better for the team. Iglesias was playing well but as it turned out, he was also working behind the scenes on his side career as a musician.

Now it was June 28 and the Mets were suddenly one of the hottest teams in baseball.

Iglesias, who was still playing well, was also getting closer to releasing a song under his moniker Candelita. As it turned out, Iglesias also moonlights as a musician star because of course the Mets had a minor league who is also a Latin Pop star.

JOSÉ IGLESIAS: Mets teammates joined infielder for performance of ‘OMG’ at Citi Field after another win

The infielder performed his latest single “OMG” at Citi Field as all of his teammates joined him for the amazing moment. It was a sight to behold.

The Mets are 49-33 (.588) since that spectacular performance in June.

Meanwhile, the song has over 4 million YouTube views and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts for Latin Digital Song Sales.

Iglesias also performed the song at MLB All-Star Weekend during the Home Run Derby in Texas.

So what’s the deal with the sign?

The “OMG” sign was created by an artist named Jerome McCroy, who goes by Jaymaccustoms.

It was based on a shirt that Alex Cohen, wife of Mets owner Steve Cohen, posted on her Instagram. McCroy gave the sign to Alex, who passed it along to someone who could put it in the locker room.

The Mets use it to celebrate in the dugout whenever they hit a home run. The celebration is often led by Mets pitcher Luis Severino, who has become one of the more reliable arms in the rotation for New York.

Iglesias is playing fantastic baseball as well and is currently enjoying a 20-game hit streak at the time of this publication. He is planning to soon release a remix, perhaps even featuring music icon Bad Bunny.

Mets’ José Iglesias was gently bonked on the head by a foul ball in this silly sequence of events

Thankfully the ‘OMG’ singer was OK.

New York Mets infielder José Iglesias was not able to catch a foul ball during a victory over the Red Sox on Tuesday night.

Iglesias, who played second and third base for the Mets in the contest, made an attempt to dive for a foul that was heading toward the crowd. He was not able to make the play and the ball then ricocheted off of the railing near the protective netting and into the air.

It remained airborne for longer than expected and Iglesias lost track of it after the failed out. But the parabola of the ball somehow ended up exactly in the most inconvenient place imaginable, quite literally bonking him on the head.

He was not injured by the play, so if you find yourself giggling a bit at this blooper, don’t feel too guilty:

A mic’d-up José Iglesias had a delightful reaction to his nifty Mets double play

José Iglesias wearing a mic is so much fun.

New York Mets shortstop José Iglesias wore a mic during Wednesday’s game against the New York Yankees, and he did not disappoint.

After making a really solid double play for the Mets, the mic captured Iglesias celebrating with his New York teammates before singing a snippet of his single “OMG” for the game broadcast camera.

The Mets have had a fascinating season, trying to stay afloat in the National League and having plenty of fun in the process. Iglesias has played a big role in both of those pursuits.

Putting mics on MLB players is such a fun twist for game broadcasts, and we hope to see even more clips like this as the baseball regular season continues.

Mets teammates joined Jose Iglesias for a raucous performance of ‘OMG’ at Citi Field after another win

Baseball’s biggest party continues raging in Queens

The vibes in Queens right now are absolutely out of control in the best possible way.

What began with Grimace throwing out the first pitch at Citi Field on June 12 for the lowly 28-37 New York Mets has snowballed as the team surged in the standings in the weeks following. The Mets are now 40-39 and just one game back of the Wild Card. Fans are dressing as purple blobs and chugging beers during rain delays. Even the Empire State Building has gone purple.

But all of that may have just been a preamble for Friday night, when Mets shortstop Jose Iglesias came back out on the field after another 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros to showoff his side hustle as a latin music star.

Iglesias, still in uniform, performed his single “OMG” and it didn’t take long before the rest of his teammates ran back out on the field to join the party.

Absolute scenes for a baseball game in late June.

Teams that were declared dead at the end of May are not supposed to have this kind of fun. Then again, there really are no teams in baseball like the Mets.

Manny Machado and José Iglesias turned a rundown into a hilariously passive-aggressive staredown

“You go ahead. No, you go ahead. No, YOU!” Machado and Iglesias, probably.

It’s not easy to fool a perennial All-Star player like Manny Machado. The Padres’ third baseman is one of the best defenders in baseball not only because he has a dynamite glove but because he rarely makes unforced errors. To get one past Machado, you must beat him head-on rather than lean on any “tricks.”

That’s a lesson the Rockies’ José Iglesias learned on Saturday afternoon in San Diego (-225). When Iglesias attempted to take third base on a weak grounder, Machado was waiting for him. Rather than take his medicine — because Machado wasn’t going to take himself out of prime position — Iglesias tried to channel his best impression of Derek Zoolander.

In broad Southern California daylight, a hilarious passive-aggressive battle of wills ensued:

Oh, man. The suspense is fantastic watching that clip. I hope it lasts.

I’m still trying to figure out what Iglesias’s plan was here. Did he really think Machado would follow him, and he’d then be able to dance around him? Was he trying to ask Machado to step aside nicely?

Whatever Iglesias’s thought process was, Machado clearly didn’t take the bait.

Freddie Freeman consoling a teary José Iglesias at first base was just the sweetest gesture

This was all class from Freddie Freeman.

Colorado Rockies shortstop José Iglesias hit a run-scoring single in his first at-bat of the season on Friday and when he stood on the first base bag tears started to flow.

Why?

Because Iglesias’ dad recently passed away and he had seen just about every hit in his son’s MLB career.

Dodgers new first baseman Freddie Freeman asked Iglesias if he was OK and when he found out why Iglesias was so emotional, Freeman offered him a quick little hug in what just a great interaction between two human beings.

Check out this moment from Friday’s game at Coors Field in Colorado.

Freeman said this on Saturday:

“I just tried to be there for him, console him and just know that it’s more than a game,” Freeman said Saturday as he sat in the clubhouse. “You never know what any of us are going through in life. If he didn’t tell me, I would never have known that he had lost his father a couple of weeks ago. So I think it just kind of reminds you to just have some compassion and some humility and just be kind to others.

“Because, in that moment, all I wanted to do was hug that guy.”

Freddie Freeman is a good man.
