Four Vols named to the Knoxville Regional All-Tournament team.

No. 1 Tennessee (56-7) defeated Georgia Tech, 9-6, Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional.

The Vols advanced to Super Regional play with the win against Georgia Tech.

Tennessee will host Notre Dame at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in the NCAA Tournament Super Regional. The winner will advance to the College World Series.

Notre Dame advanced to Super Regional play with a 2-1 win against Texas Tech in the Statesboro Regional final.

Following Tennessee’s win against Georgia Tech, the Knoxville Regional All-Tournament team was announced.

Jorel Ortega named SEC player of the Week

Tennessee’s Jorel Ortega named SEC player of the Week.

No. 1 Tennessee (33-3, 14-1 SEC) defeated Alabama (24-13, 8-7 SEC), 15-4, Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Redshirt sophomore second baseman Jorel Ortega went 4-for-5 in the series finale. The 6-foot, 194-pound Ortega totaled one home run, four RBIs and two runs against the Crimson Tide.

He recorded at least two hits in all three games against Alabama.

Ortega was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday. He led the SEC with a .563 batting average last week and tied for the league lead with nine hits.

Following Sunday’s game No. 3 against Alabama, Ortega met with media and discussed his performance. Ortega’s media availability can be watched below.

No. 1 Tennessee (31-2, 12-0 SEC) lost to Tennessee Tech (18-12, 2-4 OVC), 3-2, Tuesday at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tennessee.

Smokies Stadium is home of the Chicago Cubs’ Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies.

The game was played with a crowd of 8,183 in attendance. Tennessee and the Golden Eagles broke the attendance record at Smokies Stadium.

No. 4 Tennessee had its game against James Madison postponed Tuesday due to rain.

The contest is the first of a two-game midweek series.

The contest between Tennessee (11-1) and James Madison (8-5) was suspended in the bottom of the eighth inning. The game was tied, 7-7.

Game No. 1 highlights before the contest was suspended

The game resumed Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. EST at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee’s Jared Dickey scored in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Vols an 8-7 lead. Dickey scored after Logan Steenstra was hit by a pitch.

James Madison’s Fenwick Trimble hit a home run in the top of the ninth inning to tie the game, 8-8.

Jorel Ortega hit a walk-off single, scoring Dickey in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Wednesday’s scheduled contest will be contested 40-45 minutes following the conclusion of Game No. 1.
