Former Vol outfielder Drew Gilbert was assigned to the Syracuse Mets ahead of the 2024 baseball season.

Syracuse competes in the International League and is a Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Gilbert received a non-roster invitation from New York for spring training.

Gilbert was traded from Houston to the Mets ahead of the Major League Baseball deadline on Aug. 1, 2023.

He was selected by Houston in the first-round (No. 28 overall) of the 2022 MLB draft.

Gilbert appeared in 58 games during his final season at Tennessee in 2022, totaling 11 home runs, 70 RBIs, 60 runs, 72 hits, 21 doubles, four triples, 33 walks and four stolen bases.

Tennessee won the Southeastern Conference regular-season and tournament championships in 2022.

Former Vol Drew Gilbert has received a non-roster invitation from the Mets to spring training.

New York is scheduled to hold its first full squad workout on Feb. 19. New York’s first spring training game is slated for Feb. 24 against St. Louis in a split squad matchup.

MLB Pipeline released its annual preseason top 100 prospects ahead of the 2024 campaign.

Three former Vols are listed as top 100 prospects: Chase Dollander (No. 52), Drew Gilbert (No. 53) and Jordan Beck (No. 81).

Dollander was selected in the first-round by Colorado with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft.

Gilbert was traded from Houston to the Mets on Aug. 1, 2023 during his rookie season. He was selected by Houston in the first-round (No. 28 overall) of the 2022 MLB draft.

Beck was selected by Colorado (No. 38 overall) in the 2022 MLB draft.

Pitchers and catchers begin reporting to spring training on Feb. 9. Position players will report for spring training on Feb. 14.

Houston trades Drew Gilbert ahead of deadline.

Former Tennessee baseball player Drew Gilbert has been traded from Houston to the New York Mets.

Gilbert, a minor league outfielder, and outfielder Ryan Clifford were traded to New York in exchange for right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander.

Gilbert was a top-rated prospect in the Astros’ organization. He began the season at High-A Asheville before being promoted to Double-A Corpus Christi.

Between the two teams, Gilbert recorded a .274 batting average,  12 home runs, 38 RBIs, 19 doubles, one triple and three stolen bases. He also appeared in the MLB Futures Game in Seattle.

Gilbert played for the Vols from 2020-22 and was the Southeastern Conference Tournament’s Most Valuable Player in 2022, leading Tennessee to the tournament championship.

In his career, he was named to multiple All-America teams. He was drafted by the Astros with the No. 28 overall selection in the 2022 MLB draft.

The National League Futures defeated the American League Futures, 5-0, Saturday in the Futures Game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.

The game was held in conjunction with the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Former Vol Drew Gilbert played right field in the contest for the American League Futures. He went 1-for-2, recording one single.

Gilbert is playing for the Corpus Christi Hooks, a Double-A affiliate for the Astros.

He played for the Vols from 2020-22 and was a first-round selection by Houston in the 2022 MLB draft (No. 22 overall).

During his collegiate career with the Vols, Gilbert recorded a .314 batting average and hit 21 home runs.

The game is held in conjunction with the MLB All-Star Game at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.

First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. EDT (Peacock).

Gilbert is rated the No. 1 minor league prospect for the Astros.

He played for the Vols from 2020-22 and was a first-round selection by Houston in the 2022 MLB draft (No. 22 overall).

Gilbert is batting .202, while recording two home runs and 10 RBIs with Corpus Christi, a Double-A affiliate for the Astros.

He was promoted from Asheville earlier this season.

During his collegiate career with the Vols, Gilbert recorded a .314 batting average and hit 21 home runs.

Gilbert comes to Corpus Christi after being assigned to the Asheville Tourists on April 3. The Tourists are a High-A affiliate of the Astros in Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville competes in the South Atlantic League.
