Watch: Jordyn Brooks tries to fire up Seahawks defense on sidelines

The Seahawks are getting pulverized by the 49ers right now

The Seahawks are getting pulverized by the 49ers right now, trailing 21-3 about midway through the second quarter. To their credit, the defense is putting in an admirable effort. Some of them, anyway.

Watch linebacker Jordyn Brooks try to fire up the troops on the sidelines.

The much bigger problem is that Seattle is getting absolutely nothing on offense and Geno Smith doesn’t look close to 100%. As ugly as it might be, this could be an instance where it makes sense to wave the white flag and put Drew Lock in. Better that than risk making Smith’s elbow injury even worse and sink any hope of a playoff run down the stretch.

Seahawks Week 10 injury report: one player ruled OUT

It was a lengthy injury report week of practice for the Seattle Seahawks as they prepare for the Washington Commanders. Fortunately for Seattle, things have played out well in their favor health wise.

As it stands, only one player did not practice on Friday, and said player is also the only one officially ruled out for Sunday’s game. No one was listed as limited participation, or doubtful. As for full participation, an astonishing 15 players were full-go.

Seahawks Week 10 injury report: only 4 players sit out of practice

The Seattle Seahawks are looking to get back to their winning ways against the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Unfortunately, they have another week of a lengthy injury report following their 37-3 smackdown at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.

Things are looking a little better for Seattle on Thursday, as the did not practice list is down three players. Meanwhile, the full participation in practice category was filled to the brim.

First half highlights: Seahawks lead Browns 17-14

First half highlights: Seahawks lead Browns 17-14

It’s been an explosive first half between the Seattle Seahawks and the Cleveland Browns. Instead of it being another defensive slugfest as many may have predicted, it’s been an afternoon filled with early fireworks on both sides. Fortunately, the Seahawks have had more.

Seattle started the game with an opening drive touchdown, scoring in the red zone to help alleviate some of the woes they’ve faced in this part of the field. Fan favorite rookie wide receiver Jake Bobo got things going with his three-yard touchdown run.

The Seahawks’ strong start continued with linebacker Jordyn Brooks forcing a fumble on this sack of PJ Walker. Second year defender Boye Mafe recovered, setting Seattle up nicely in Cleveland territory.

The Seahawks capitalized on the turnover, as Geno Smith found Tyler Lockett in the corner of the end zone, after he survived the pass rush. Smith’s pocket presense was exceptional in the first half.

Cleveland was able to finally get on the board following Seattle’s second touchdown, and cut the lead to 14-7.

On the Seahawks’ next possession, wide receiver DK Metcalf helped set up Seattle’s offense in great field position. The Seahawks were unable to find the end zone this time, but they did manage to extend their lead to ten with a field goal, making it 17-7.

The defense held strong on the next outing by the Browns offense, as second year cornerback Riq Woolen snagged his first pick of the year.

Cleveland followed up the interception by scoring a touchdown on the ground, once again cutting into Seattle’s commanding lead.

Geno Smith was intercepted right before halftime, as the Seahawks were attempting to add more points to their narrow lead. The Browns will get the ball to start the second half.

Seahawks players ecstatic to wear throwback uniforms on Sunday

Seahawks players ecstatic to wear throwback uniforms on Sunday

The Seattle Seahawks announced in June they would be wearing their beloved throwback uniforms during their Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns. Well guess what week it is, 12s? That’s right, it’s Browns week, and you know it only means one thing: for the first time since the 2001 season, the throwback uniforms are finally making their comeback!

Retro jerseys were always apart of Seahawks gameday among the 12th Man over the years. But if you visit Lumen Field on Sundays now, royal blue is everywhere. It’s not just the fans who are excited, but the players are hyped as well.

Following Seattle’s 20-10 win over the Cardinals, I had the opportunity to ask several players how they were feeling about wearing them. There was a clear consensus, as they all lit up with smiles when talking about the throwback threads.

Below are the comments from the players I interviewed when I asked the question “are you excited to wear the throwbacks next week?” It’s only fitting I start with the man the team picked to be the “face” of the official launch for the throwbacks.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba: They look good, huh? I appreciate the media team for doing that, I know how big that is for our fans, the 12’s. Look good, feel good, play good!

Geno Smith:Super excited, can’t wait to have them on and see the fans! Everyone’s going to be excited about them.

Jake Bobo:I’m very excited, (the hat) is courtesy of equipment manager Erik Kennedy. (He) asked me if I wanted it, of course I’m going to say yeah! Big week, big week!

Kenneth Walker III:Yeah, definitely. We had a 90’s themed shoot some months ago. I like the throwbacks, it’s probably my favorite uniform right now.

Jamal Adams:I am! I am looking forward to that. I gotta work on my cleat game right now. Trying to customize something right now, hopefully I can get it in time, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.

Of course, Adams might have some competition from one of his defensive teammates when it comes to the cleat game…

Jordyn Brooks:Oh I can’t wait! I’ve got some cleats (to wear) in mind, will probably be the best on the team. Can’t wait to put those out.

Bobby Wagner:I am extremely excited to wear the throwbacks. I still think we should have black jerseys, but I am not going to complain.

For those who do not know, Wagner has long been an advocate for an all-black Seahawks alternate uniform. While such a look could be cool, especially with some neon accents, I think it’s safe to say everyone is happy with the retro uniforms.

Jordyn Brooks on suddenly-dominant Seahawks defense: ‘It’s been fun’

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Seattle Seahawks have one of the most imposing defensive units in the NFL.

For the first time in nearly a decade, the Seattle Seahawks have one of the most imposing defensive units in the NFL. The turnaround has been a complete team effort. To name a few, defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt, Bobby Wagner, Devon Witherspoon and Jarran Reed all deserve a lot of credit. Outside of Witherspoon’s meteoric rise, the biggest surprise this season has been the development of fourth-year linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

Speaking of Brooks, he may have had the best game of his career against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. In case you missed it, Brooks was everywhere making stops – looking less like an inside linebacker and more like a determined ninja assassin popping up out of the shadows to bring down ball-carriers of all types.

In the end Brooks had tallied nine tackles – although it felt like a lot more – tying Bobby Wagner for the team-high this week. Brooks also had two tackles for a loss, a QB hit and a PBU, outshining even his future Hall of Fame teammate.

Brooks’ efforts – especially his dramatic improvement in coverage – have been a major contributor to Seattle’s defensive success lately. Over the last three weeks they have held their opponents to just 10 points per game – the kind of defensive-dominance not seen since that one night in Arizona.

After the game Brooks admitted that playing defense for this team recently has been fun.

Through six games Brooks has totaled 57 combined tackles (five for a loss), and 2.5 sacks. If he continues to play at this level throughout the season, he should make his first Pro Bowl. To do all this coming off an ACL tear less than a year ago is a powerful achievement.

Seahawks fans share reactions to another ugly win vs. Cardinals

Here’s how Seahawks fans are reacting to the game.

It’s never pretty when the Seahawks and the Cardinals meet up on the field. As long as Seattle comes out on top, we’ll take it. Today they took down Arizona at home by a score of 20-10. Along the way there was some awesome defensive play by Jordyn Brooks, Bobby Wagner and Devon Witherspoon.

On the other side of the ball we saw exciting flashes from both Jake Bobo and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. However, there was more frustration with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and a worrisome number of poor decisions by Geno Smith. Here’s how Seahawks fans are reacting to the game.

Jordyn Brooks doesn’t mind early bye week for Seahawks

Jordyn Brooks doesn’t mind early bye week for Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks are off this week in the first round of bye weeks. Typically, an early bye is not what teams would want, as later byes are more valuable with the grind of the season in full swing.

But for the Seahawks, it likely could not have come at a better time, and this sentiment is being expressed by starting linebacker Jordyn Brooks. According to Brooks, via Gregg Bell at the Tacoma News Tribune:

“Yeah, it’s a weird time for a bye. For me, personally? I don’t mind it…I get one week off this (surgically reconstructed) knee. Get some rest and rehabbing,” Brooks said. “Hey, we’ll take the bye — then we’ve got to go down the stretch.”

It’s only been four weeks of play but Seattle is severely banged up. The entire offensive line has been decimated. At one point on Monday Night Football, only one day-1 starter was playing, and he (Evan Brown) was playing guard instead of center. Injuries in the secondary to Riq Woolen, Coby Bryant and Jamal Adams have also popped up.

The Seahawks are certainly welcoming this early bye as the team attempts to get healthy, especially as a date with the Cincinnati Bengals is looming.

4 of the most-pleasant surprises for the Seahawks in 2023

Here are four players who have been the most-pleasant surprises for Seattle so far this year.

In case you haven’t heard, the Seahawks are good again. Off to their first strong start since they won five straight to begin the 2020 season, Seattle has arrived at the early bye week with a 3-1 record. Aside from the second half collapse against Los Angeles in Week 1, these Seahawks have performed above even our relatively-rosy projections heading into the year, predicting they’d finish at 11-6. Right now it looks like we sold them short.

The biggest single reason why things are going so well is the return of middle linebacker Bobby Wagner. He has whipped the front-seven into shape and completely reversed last year’s dynamic of atrocious run defense, leading a unit that is currently allowing the third-fewest yards per carry in the NFL and less than 90 rushing yards per game. Wagner’s brilliance hasn’t been breaking news for about 11 years, though. Let’s focus on some contributors who we didn’t expect to ball out but have started the 2023 season hot.

Here are four players who have been the most-pleasant surprises for the team so far this year.
