What should the Seahawks do with Jordyn Brooks in 2024?

One guy we couldn’t decide on in either case was inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

It feels difficult to get a sense of direction these days, as the Seattle Seahawks are currently in-between head coaches and in the midst of the most massive shift in the front office in 15 years.

Until the team announces a replacement for Pete Carroll, we’ll do what we can to project what might go down this coming offseason. At the very least, we have our own ideas about how to re-shape this roster in 2024 – beginning with deciding how to treat their 23-strong free agent class. There are a few tough decisions that could go either way, but we feel Bobby Wagner and Leonard Williams are both worth keeping around, despite their age clashing with an ongoing youth movement.

On the other side of the coin, all of the offensive linemen who are about to hit free agency should be allowed to walk, among others.

One guy we couldn’t decide on in either case was inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks, who’s coming off a career-best year but entering into a difficult offseason situation contract-negotiation wise.

There’s a strong case to re-sign Brooks, especially given his improvement in coverage this season. Then again, the Seahawks can’t continue to pour resources into the back end of their defense when their roster is so deficient in other more important places – namely the offensive line.

Brooks is a valuable defender when he’s playing at his best like he was in 2023. However, that also means he’s in line for a serious raise. Spotrac is projecting his next contract’s market value at $13.8 million per season. Re-signing Devin Bush and promoting him into Brooks’ role would be a risk, but certainly a whole lot cheaper than that.

Even if Brooks can only command around $10 million per year that’s still a pretty significant cap investment at a non-premier position for a team that’s already hampered by over-bloated contracts in their defensive back seven. Remember, re-signing Leonard Williams will not come cheap and there won’t be much to go around after that unless GM John Schneider makes some pretty dramatic roster cuts.

Consider us on the fence about this one. Tell us what you think the Seahawks should do with Brooks in the comments.

23 Seattle Seahawks players who will become free agents in March

Reviewing 23 pending free agents for the Seattle Seahawks in 2024.

The Seattle Seahawks have entered their offseason a little earlier than we were hoping. Getting back to the postseason next year will require a lot of work, beginning with deciding which pending free agents to keep and which to let walk. This year the team has 23 players who will hit the open market in a couple of months unless they are re-signed before them.

At the top of the list is star defensive end Leonard Williams, who the team traded two draft picks before just before the trade deadline. If they let Williams leave they’ll get a high compensatory pick. However, Williams has been their best defender this season since the deal went down and they’d be wise to retain him. Other key free agents include their top-three off-ball linebackers, Bobby Wagner, Jordyn Brooks and Devin Bush.

Here is the full list of pending free agents for the Seahawks in 2024.

Seahawks injury updates: Geno Smith, Jordyn Brooks, Damien Lewis

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll gave updates on a few minor injuries after his team’s win on Sunday.

The Seahawks have come out relatively unscathed from their last two Hollywood-worthy comeback wins, with only a few minor injuries to keep up on. The team’s two biggest problems right now are both in the secondary. Standout rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon remains sidelined by a “really painful” hip pointer injury, while strong safety Jamal Adams has also missed the last two games with his knee issue. Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters last week the team has considered shutting Adams down for the season.

As for the new injuries, on Sunday the Seahawks suffered at least two: Carroll says linebacker Jordyn Brooks re-aggravated an old ankle sprain, while left guard Damien Lewis left with a sore knee. As for quarterback Geno Smith – who sat out the previous two games with a groin issue – there’s nothing new to report.

If Brooks has to miss significant time with his ankle injury, Devin Bush will get what would have been his snaps. Bush played well against the Titans after Brooks went down.

We will learn more when the first injury report of the week comes out tomorrow night.

Seahawks list Jordyn Brooks as questionable to return vs. Titans

Now the Seahawks are listing him as questionable to return with an ankle injury.

The Seahawks just started the second quarter of a scoreless classic trap game against the Titans. More bad news – Jordyn Brooks may be done for the day.

Brooks was spotted on the CBS broadcast limping off the field with the aid of two trainers then put in the blue medical tent. Now the Seahawks are listing him as questionable to return with an ankle injury.

The next man up at linebacker for Seattle is Devin Bush, who was already putting in a significant role as a big nickel linebacker against the Titans run game. Now Bush will be gettting an even more significant role, at least as long as Brooks remains out.

The Titans lead 7-0 courtesy of a trick play touchdown pass by Derrick Henry.

Seahawks Week 14 injury report: LB Jordyn Brooks sits out again

Here are all the updates from Thursday’s practice.

The Seahawks may be a little bit thin at linebacker this week. Jordyn Brooks sat out of practice on Wednesday and he was once again listed as a non-participant for today’s practice, raising doubts that he will be able play on Sunday against the 49ers. Cornerback Tre Brown and wide receiver Dee Eskridge were also out. Seven others were listed as limited, including starting quarterback Geno Smith.

On the bright side, Seattle saw progress from the top two running backs on the depth chart. Ken Walker and Zach Charbonnet were both upgraded to limited after not practicing on Wednesday.

Here are all the updates from today’s practice.

Watch: What Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told the media on Wednesday

The Seahawks are finally back on a normal schedule after playing two consecutive Thursday night games.

The Seahawks are finally back on a normal schedule after playing two consecutive Thursday night games. We hadn’t heard from the team in a while until yesterday before practice when Seattle head coach Pete Carroll spoke with the media at the VMAC.

Here are a few clips from that conversation.

Seahawks injury updates: LB Jordyn Brooks, RB Zach Charbonnet

Yesterday head coach Pete Carroll spoke with the media and offered updates on linebacker Jordyn Brooks as well as rookie running back Zach Charbonnet.

At least the Seahawks came out of Thursday night’s heartbreaking loss to the Cowboys without any major injuries to report. There are a couple of minor ones that will warrant monitoring, though. Yesterday head coach Pete Carroll spoke with the media and offered updates on linebacker Jordyn Brooks as well as rookie running back Zach Charbonnet.

Brooks left the game in the first half after a strong start and was listed as probable to return with an ankle injury. However, he was later downgraded to doubtful and never made it back on the field. Carroll says Brooks’ injury is a sprained ankle but didn’t have information on the severity of it. As for Charbonnet, Carroll is calling the knee injury that forced him out against Dallas a bruise.

Devin Bush stepped in for Brooks and DeeJay Dallas for Charbonnet. We may not hear more until Wednesday when the first injury report of Week 14 will come out.

6 takeaways from Seahawks’ 31-13 Thanksgiving loss to San Francisco

The Seahawks have now dropped two-straight games to fall to 6-5 on the year, quickly losing more and more ground in the division. It has been a sharp turn of events these past four weeks, as they have fallen from first place in the division to the 7th and final seed in the NFC playoff picture.

Fans will have to wait a week to see if Seattle can finally get back on track, but will face a stiff challenge against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football to start Week 13.
