Recruiting Story

Michigan prioritized Young throughout the process but when former commit Ivan Taylor (who ended up flipping to Alabama) ended up choosing the Wolverines, it appeared that Young would head elsewhere. Still, he kept Michigan in his top group before committing to Clemson on Nov. 2. But when the Wolverines got Elijah Dotson to flip from Pitt, the Belleville (Mich.) star appealed to his 7-on-7 teammate, and Young made the surprising flip to the maize and blue on Dec. 1.

Readiness Level

Could challenge to see the field in year one but is most likely a year two candidate.

Notes

  • Committed Dec. 1, 2024
  • Also plays basketball and runs track

Scouting report

The scouting report from 247Sports:

A twitched-up, three-phase playmaker that has done plenty of damage on the offensive side over the years, but projects best as a safety at the next level with his awareness, range and ball skills. Limited third-party verified information available exiting his junior season, but owns some of the top triple jump markers in the 2025 cycle. Comfortable working in an off-man alignment with the break anticipation to create takeaways. Fires into the alley taking good contain angles and has the foot speed to close gaps in pursuit. On the leaner side at this stage, but has displayed the strength and lateral spring to be an effective short-area tackler. As a wide receiver, has proven to be a tough cover on vertical routes with the juice to create after the catch. Should be viewed as a potential impact player at the Power Four level with multi-year starter upside. Could be deployed in a variety of different alignments, but skill set suggests he might find most success as a split safety.

Clemson football loses seventh commitment in the 2025 recruiting class

Clemson loses another commitment in their 2025 class.

Clemson football has its seventh decommitment in the 2025 recruiting class, as the worrisome trend for the Tigers continues.

Four-star safety Jordan Young, an early commitment this month for the Tigers, has flipped to Michigan. The Wolverines were one of his finalists with NC State.  Four-star safety Tae Harris also decommitted from Clemson to Georgia Tech a few days earlier, and now neither safety pledge is committed to the class.

The decommitments have been quite a trend for Clemson. Seven of them, really, since August. But even more alarming is the fact they are losing four Top 100 prospects. That’s half. The 2025 class has lost offensive lineman Jaylan Beckley, defensive end Bryce Davis, defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell, quarterback Blake Hebert, cornerback Graceson Littleton, cornerback Tae Harris and safety Jordan Young.

Recruiting has not looked good for the Tigers of late.

Michigan football flips an elite defensive back from Clemson

Michigan football did get some good news on Saturday with the announcement that Jordan Young flipped his commitment to Clemson.

It’s flip season, as we’re seeing players back off long-time commitments in favor of other schools, such as Michigan football flipping No. 1 recruit in the country, five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, from LSU, or Jaylen Williams and Carter Smith defecting from the maize and blue to Wisconsin.

But it’s not just prospects pledged for a long time that are heading elsewhere.

After bringing in Underwood and his teammate, four-star safety Elijah Dotson, it appears that the connection that 2025 Monroe (N.C.) four-star safety Jordan Young has with the latter made him reconsider his pledge to Clemson. Suddenly, after being a finalist for Young — who pledged to the Tigers on Nov. 2 — Michigan football got back into the thick of things, securing a flip the day after The Game.

Michigan is making a late push to secure as many big names as possible in the wake of Bryce Underwood’s commitment. Early signing day is fast arriving, leaving the Wolverines little time, as the period begins on Wednesday.

Is Michigan football poised to flip an elite safety committed to Clemson?

This will be a huge flip if it happens! #GoBlue

Michigan football’s 2025 safety class appeared to be awfully crowded with four-stars Kainoa Winston and Ivan Taylor committed, which made it seem less likely that the Wolverines would be able to garner the commitment of 2025 Monroe (N.C.) four-star safety Jordan Young.

But a lot has changed in recent weeks.

Though Young committed to Clemson on Nov. 2 (the same day Michigan hosted Oregon), Taylor ended up flipping to Alabama. The Wolverines actually got another safety commit in Belleville (Mich.) four-star Elijah Dotson, but Dotson has lobbied his 7-on-7 teammate, Young, to join him in Ann Arbor.

And it’s starting to look as if that may happen.

On Wednesday, On3’s Steve Wiltfong, EJ Holland, and Ethan McDowell all predicted Young to flip to Michigan football.

Clemson lands huge commitment from 2025 4-star safety Jordan Young

Clemson lands a huge commitment.

Clemson football’s 2025 recruiting class gained a major addition on Saturday as 4-star safety Jordan Young from Monroe, North Carolina, committed to the Tigers. Choosing Clemson over other top programs like NC State, Michigan, and Florida State, Young announced during a high school ceremony. Young’s decision solidifies Clemson’s secondary future, with him joining 4-star Tae Harris as the second defensive back commitment in the class.

Young has been a high-priority target for Clemson since receiving an offer in June 2022. After being considered a Clemson lean, NC State briefly gained momentum during the summer. However, multiple game-day visits, including Clemson’s big win over NC State in September and their recent victory over Virginia, helped solidify Young’s interest in the Tigers. His latest visit was to Michigan just last week, where he watched the Wolverines take down in-state rival Michigan State.

Young is a highly ranked prospect, standing at No. 106 overall and the ninth-best safety according to ESPN. On Friday, he was also named North Carolina’s Big 22 Player of the Year for the second straight season, a testament to his talent on both sides of the ball. He has accumulated nearly 2,500 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns on offense, with an impressive 17 career interceptions as a defender, including five in his senior season.

Young’s addition returns Clemson’s 2025 class to 14 pledges after the Tigers flipped 4-star offensive lineman Gavin Blanchard from UCF on Friday. However, the class also saw 4-star cornerback Graceson Littleton reopen his recruitment. With these latest changes, Clemson now ranks 17th in the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings for 2025.

Michigan football makes top group for yet another elite 2025 safety

Could a crowded room get more crowded? #GoBlue

Michigan football is loading up on safeties in the 2025 cycle with two top 100 prospects committed in four-stars Kainoa Winston and Ivan Taylor. Though it would appear that the Wolverines would be full at the position, is there a chance they could land another?

If nothing else, the aforementioned duo isn’t scaring off another elite safety.

2025 Monroe (N.C.) four-star safety Jordan Young, rated highest by ESPN at No. 39 overall, dropped his top four on Tuesday, and the maize and blue made the cut, along with Clemson, Florida State, and North Carolina State. Clemson is the presumed leader with the lead in both the 247Sports Crystal Ball and On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

Michigan did appear to be in a good position for Young, though still likely trailing the others. Now that the Wolverines have two commits at the position, it’s unlikely that Young will want to join such a crowded room given his other opportunities.

Elite 2025 safety sets Michigan football visit

The interest here is real. #GoBlue

June 21 is shaping up to be a huge visit date for Michigan football. Especially as it will host a recently offered safety who appears to have strong interest in the Wolverines.

It wasn’t that long ago that the maize and blue offered Jordan Young, a 2025 safety from Monroe (N.C.). Even though they got in late, Young put Michigan football in his top group, potentially making up some ground with perceived leaders Clemson and Florida State.

On Saturday, Young announced that he will use one of his official visits to check out Ann Arbor again (he visited unofficially on April 15), indicating he’s doing more than playing lip service to Sherrone Moore and the staff.

Young will be visiting on the same day as 2025 Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng.

Clemson is considered to have the edge for his services, but given his multiple visits, it does appear that he’s pliable and could find himself in a winged helmet.

According to 247Sports’ proprietary rankings, Young is the No. 29 player in the country and the nation’s second-best safety.

On3: Michigan football surging for elite 2025 safety

#Michigan is making a strong, late push. #GoBlue

Michigan football recruiting has been lagging (at least compared to last year but not to most years) though it’s starting to pick up.

The Wolverines tend to get the most momentum in May and June and given the offseason changes with Sherrone Moore taking over in late January, it stands to reason that he would focus more on building out the current team before setting the tone for future teams via recruiting.

One name that’s coming up of late is 2025 Monroe (N.C). four-star safety Jordan Young who only got his offer from the Wolverines on March 20 before visiting Ann Arbor on April 15. He subsequently listed Michigan in his top eight and apparently feels that the maize and blue are making a strong impression.

On3’s Chad Simmons posted some intel (subscription required) and noted that Michigan football is making a push for the No. 2 safety in the nation.

Heading into official visits, Clemson and Florida State are doing the best job in this race. Michigan offered Jordan Young a little later with the new staff, but his visit to Ann Arbor opened his eyes too. Official visits will be a big factor for him, but a decision is not expected until the fall. The Seminoles and Tigers are setting the pace, but Michigan has quickly jumped into this race.

Clemson is still the perceived leader, leading the On3 RPM with a 24.7% chance he ends up a Tiger. But given the late push by the maize and blue and that they ended up making the cut for his top schools so quickly following the offer, there appears to be a chance that Michigan could come out on top in the end.

Young isn’t expected to make a decision until October 12.

2025 safety Jordan Young includes Vols in top eight

2025 safety prospect Jordan Young includes Tennessee in top eight schools.

2025 safety prospect Jordan Young announced his top eight schools.

Tennessee joins Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Michigan, North Carolina State, North Carolina and Texas A&M as Young’s top schools in his recruitment.

The 6-foot, 184-pound four-star safety is from Monroe High School in Monroe, North Carolina.

Young is the No. 44 overall player in the class of 2025. He ranks as the No. 4 safety and No. 4 player in North Carolina, according to 247Sports.

Tennessee offered a scholarship to Young on March 2, 2023.

The Vols have nine commitments in its 2025 recruiting class: Quarterback George MacIntyre, defensive lineman Ethan Utley, tight end Jack Van Dorseiaer, cornerback Dylan Lewis, running back Justin Baker, wide receiver Joakim Dodson, cornerback Tyler Redmond, safety Sidney Walton and wide receiver Radarious Jackson.

Clemson lands in the top 8 for a 2025 top 30 recruit, Jordan Young

Clemson is in Jordan Young’s top 8 schools.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program look to continue their hot run in the 2025 recruiting class with this top-tier safety.

Monroe (N.C.) High School four-star Jordan Young took to social media Monday to announce his top 8 schools, with Clemson making the cut. The Tigers are competing with  Alabama, NC State, Michigan, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Florida State, and Tennessee for his commitment.

According to 247Sports rankings, Young is the No. 2 safety and No. 29 overall player in the 2025 class. He is an excellent talent with two crystal ball predictions to land with Clemson.

The 2025 class has been very friendly toward the Tigers and Young looks like he could be the next piece added to Clemson’s stacked class.
