During his four years with Golden State, Poole won his first championship ring as a member of the 2022 roster and will carry that experience, and those memories, with him for the rest of his life.
By being sent to the Wizards, Poole has been given an opportunity to establish himself as one of the team’s star players. Washington entered into a rebuilding phase this summer, and the duo of Poole and Kyle Kuzma could be the pairing they look to build around.
Poole’s exit from the Warriors may have been messy, but he’s found himself in an ideal situation where he can finally be the lead guard for a franchise that will allow him the freedom to grow his game while playing through his mistakes.
During the offseason, the pair of former Golden State stars were getting up shots together in a workout.
At the start of the offseason, the Golden State Warriors made headlines when they acquired Chris Paul in a blockbuster trade with the Washington Wizards. To land the veteran All-Star point guard, the Warriors traded a package of players and picks centered around Jordan Poole.
Following his exit from Golden State, Poole linked up with another former Warrior star over the offseason for a workout. Poole recently got some shots up during a workout with two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant.
Photographer Jordan Jiminez shared a video on Instagram of the pair of former Warriors working out together.
Despite never playing together in Golden State, both Durant and Poole won championships as members of the Warriors alongside Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green.
After leaving the Warriors for Brooklyn in the 2019 offseason, Durant was recently traded to the Phoenix Suns at the 2023 trade deadline to link up with Devin Booker.
During Poole’s four-year stretch with the Warriors, Poole averaged 15.8 points on 42.1% shooting from the field to go along with 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds over 266 regular season games in Golden State. Poole was originally drafted by the Warriors in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft out of Michigan.

A pair of former members of the Golden State Warriors linked up for a recent workout. Two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Kevin Durant laced up with former Warrior turned Washington Wizard Jordan Poole for an offseason shooting session.
On his Instagram story, Ralen Brown shared a clip of Poole and Durant getting up shots together on Monday evening.
Despite linking up for a workout, Poole and Durant never officially suited up together as members of the Warriors at the same time. When Durant opted to leave Golden State and join the Brooklyn Nets in free agency in 2019, the Warriors selected Poole in the first round of the NBA draft out of Michigan.
Heading into the upcoming 2023-24 season, Durant is now in the desert with the Phoenix Suns and Poole is in the nation’s capital with the Washington Wizards.

When the new season schedule drops, Golden State’s games against both the Suns and the Wizards should be circled.
Anthony Poole’s tweet won’t help his son put this behind him.

From the moment footage leaked of Draymond Green punching Jordan Poole at a practice ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season, speculation has been rampant about what caused the altercation. And with those details still under wrap, it’ll only continue until a first-hand account comes out.
That won’t stop people from asking Poole and Green about what happened, though. And if they aren’t careful with their answers, they can add fuel to the fire, which is exactly what Green did as a guest on the Pat Bev Podcast with Rone. In a social clip of the interview, Green alluded to the punch being a build-up of things over time, a response that set off Poole’s dad, Anthony Poole, who responded on Twitter with some unsavory words.
Green said, “I don’t just hit people. Dialogue of course happens over time. And you usually ain’t just triggered by something that fast.” Anthony Poole called Green’s comment “bs,” and said, among other things, him and Green can “meet anytime he want.”
This is an unfortunate turn in the whole saga, and one that could’ve been avoided if Green just declined to answer the question. Though he reiterated he was wrong in how he handled the altercation and was also complimentary of Poole in the same interview, he should have just left it alone if he wasn’t willing to go into detail.
At the same time, it’s unrealistic to ask someone with a podcast and a budding media career not to talk about one of the things he’s asked about most. The onus here was on Anthony Poole to protect his son from any extra outside noise.
While it’s understandable that Poole might be angry with Green, all his tweet did was the fan the flames on an interview that would have otherwise come and gone, which is likely what Jordan Poole would have preferred. Now, as Jordan is embarking on a new journey in Washington, he has to re-live what was likely the worst moment of his time in Golden State because his dad started a mini-beef with Green, who of course responded with his own suggestive words on Twitter.
For his part, Jordan simply posted a clip to his Instagram stories of him working out, with the lyrics to Gunna’s ‘bottom’ playing in the background and one part of the song in quotations: “Talk of the topic… Find you a hobby.” Hopefully, he can be the talk of the topic for something more positive soon.
The Tip-Off
Some NBA goodness from around the USA TODAY Sports network.
Jordan Poole’s dad wasn’t the only person Draymond Green had Twitter fingers for today. He also had a near-spat with Kevin Garnett, but this time it was over a fake tweet, as our guy Sykes explained:
Kendrick Perkins knows about this all too well. He’s normally the most famous person we see fall victim to the Ballsack Sportsification of Twitter, which is especially rampant now considering the fact that literally anyone can be verified for the cost of a cup of coffee.
It wasn’t Perkins who fell for the trap today, though. Instead, it was Draymond Green. And it almost started an extremely, extremely regrettable beef with Kevin Garnett.
Luckily, though, cooler heads prevailed. This is not something I ever thought I’d say about a situation involving Kevin Garnett. But, hey. Here we are.
Despite Draymond Green inking a new contract with the Golden State Warriors and Jordan Poole being traded to the Washington Wizards, questions are still being asked about their incident from last year’s preseason punch.
During an interview with Patrick Beverley on the Pat Bev Podcast with Barstool Sports, Green spoke on the incident with his former teammate from last season. Green spoke about the lead-up to the punch and revealed that the incident wasn’t just an instant reaction.
I don’t just hit people. Dialogue of course happens over time and you usually ain’t just triggered by something, like that fast, to that degree. You know what I’m saying, like this is a team. Ain’t nobody on my team triggering me in an instant. You know, we know stuff that you don’t say amongst men. We know things that you have to stand on.
I’m stand on this that’s is some bs. Jp was his guy and he avoid me all last yr. He is a soft as bitch and I’m standing on this and he didn’t apologize to me and my wife. So he lame and me and him can meet anytime he want

Although an entire season has passed an the pair of former teammates have gone their separate ways, chatter from the preseason punch has continued to rumble throughout the 2023 offseason.
When the schedule releases for the upcoming season, Poole and the Wizards’ first matchup against Green and the Warriors will be something to circle on your calendar.
During his introductory presser with the Wizards, Jordan Poole was asked a question about his former teammate with the Warriors.
Despite his trade to the Washington Wizards, the chatter revolving around Jordan Poole and Draymond Green isn’t slowing down. In his introductory press conference with the Wizards, Poole was asked about his now former teammate.
In a crowd of reporters, Poole was asked about the fallout and impact of Green’s punch from last preseason on his trade from the Golden State Warriors. Poole dismissed the question and went on to talk about his move to Washington.
We’re in Washington now. Playing with Kuz – great duo. Being able to really flourish, expand your game and help a new team. Lead an entire group of guys. It’s a challenge that we’re up for. We got a new front office and a lot of people that’s invested. Everybody is locked in and wants to be here and start something that we can have that can be special.

Last year during the preseason, the start of the Warriors 2022-23 season was headlined by Green punching Poole in practice. The video from the practice facility was later leaked across the internet. Chatter and buzz from the punch lingered throughout the Warriors season through their second-round exit from the postseason with a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
At the start of the offseason, the Warriors acquired Chris Paul from the Wizards in a package centered around Poole.
Poole spent his first four seasons with the Warriors after being drafted in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft out of Michigan. In four season in the Bay Area, Poole averaged 15.8 points on 42.1% shooting from the field to go along with 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game.
After the Warriors and Wizards reportedly agreed to a blockbuster trade headlined by Poole and Paul early in the offseason, the deal became official on Thursday. Each team announced the trade along with welcome messages for the new players.
The Wizards also revealed Poole’s new number with Washington. After wearing No. 3 for all four seasons with the Warriors, Poole is set to wear No. 13 with the Wizards.

While Poole will wear No. 13 in Washington, Paul will take his No. 3 in Golden State.
However, according to Jason Dumas, who was speaking on 97.5 The Game, Steve Kerr may have driven the decision to part ways with Poole. Dumas noted how the Warriors’ head coach may have grown tired of the young guard’s complaints regarding his role within the rotation.
“I honestly think the relationship between him and Steve was more of what got him traded than his relationship with him and Draymond Green,” Dumas said. “I just think he was kinda fed up with the fact that Jordan was kinda huffin’ and puffin’ that he wasn’t in the right role for him. I think that had more to do with him being moved than that punch. The punch didn’t help and his relationship with Draymond wasn’t great, but I think Steve was more fed up than anything.”

Poole now finds himself in a new situation where he can become the lead ball-handler and offensive weapon with the Wizards. Hopefully, Poole can continue to develop his game and make good on his potential away from the bright lights of the Chase Center.
It’s official, Chris Paul is a member of the Golden State Warriors, and Jordan Poole is a Washington Wizard. On Thursday, the Warriors and Wizards formally announced their blockbuster trade headlined by Poole and Paul from early in the offseason.
With the trade turning final, a key member of the Warriors took to social media to say goodbye to Poole and welcome longtime rival turned new teammate Paul. Steph Curry shared a long farewell message on his Instagram story, saying goodbye to Poole. At the end of his Instagram story, Curry had a quick message for Paul, welcoming him to the Bay Area.
Yo — so, now that the trade is actually final, I felt like I needed to come on here and just say — JP, how much I appreciated the four years brother. You’re a champion. You grew up right in front of everybody’s face in terms of, you know, that first year where it was rough — a lot of injuries, just trying to find your way to going to the G League and coming back and helping us finish 15-5 down the stretch of your second year to us winning a championship your third year and fighting till the end this past year.
I can’t wait to see your blossom, big fella. I can’t wait to see you shine in your own situation. Just looking forward to competing, obviously with being a fan of everything you become. Good luck to you.
CP, I can’t wait to rock with you, brother. It’s going to be different with us on the same thing. Let’s get it! Let’s get it!
Early in the offseason, the Warriors agreed to trade Poole, Patrick Baldwin Jr., Ryan Rollins and multiple draft picks to Washington for the veteran All-Star point guard.
Poole was initially drafted in the first round by the Warriors in the 2019 NBA Draft out of Michigan. During his four-year career with the Warriors, Poole averaged 15.8 points on 42.1% shooting from the field to go along with 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds over 266 regular season games in Golden State.
Jordan Poole’s tumultuous tenure with the Golden State Warriors has come to an end. The Warriors traded the sharpshooting guard to the Washington Wizards in a deal that landed them Chris Paul. Poole’s position with the franchise had become untenable due to poor relationships with the Warriors All-Star core.
During a June 30 episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast, The Ringer’s Logan Murdoch revealed that even the laid-back Klay Thompson had grown frustrated with Poole throughout the season.
“All the established guys had some version of a problem with Jordan Poole, whether it was Klay [Thompson] ironically saying that Jordan doesn’t pass the ball enough and shoots too much,” Murdoch said. “And then you have Draymond [Green], who sees Jordan as this guy is like, yeah, I did punch him. I did do all these things, but now I don’t have a voice within the locker room because of what happened.”
Despite Poole’s locker room issues, he was still able to play in all 82 games for the Warriors last season. During those games, Poole averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 43% shooting from the field and 33.6% shooting from deep.
Poole had been with the Warriors since being selected with the 28th pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Since then, the Wisconsin native has developed into one of the best young offensive-minded guards in the NBA and will likely be given a starring role on the rebuilding Wizards in the upcoming season.
However, the Warriors will likely be pleased with their decision to trade Poole, as now, Chris Paul will be their primary guard off the bench. Warriors fans will be hoping that the addition of Paul will help their team return to the NBA Finals next season.
The Warriors failed to defend their 2022 NBA championship this past season, falling to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference Finals second round. Now, Golden State will be hoping they can challenge for another championship banner in the upcoming season, after securing the future of Draymond Green to keep their core together.
