Watch: Jordan Poole attempts to mimic Steph Curry’s walk away shot

Jordan Poole attempted to copy Steph Curry’s walkaway three-point celebration in his most recent game for the Washington Wizards.

Jordan Poole has never been short on confidence. The former Golden State Warriors champion is among the best shooters in the NBA, especially from the guard position. However, he struggled to get the opportunities he craved while with the Warriors. Poole was traded to the Washington Wizards this summer and is getting all the shooting opportunities he wants as Washington looks to develop him into a star point guard.

During the Wizards 113-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Oct. 28, Poole let his confidence get the best of him. After shooting a catch-and-shoot three from the corner, he tried to mimic Steph Curry by turning away from the basket to face the crowd. He missed the shot.

Poole has impressed during his first two outings for the Wizards. He has averaged 22.5 points, 3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. However, his efficiency will need to improve. Currently, he’s shooting 36.6% from the field and 22.2% from 3-point range.

Andre Iguodala reveals Jordan Poole’s frustrations with the Warriors

The former Golden State Warriors champion revealed why Jordan Poole became frustrated with his role in the rotation.

Jordan Poole‘s tenure with the Golden State Warriors ended this summer following a messy year-long situation between him and Draymond Green. However, Poole also appeared to have trouble accepting his role within Golden State’s rotation last season and often appeared to be going off script.

During a recent appearance on JJ Redick’s “Old Man and the Three” podcast, four-time Warriors champion Andre Iguodala discussed Poole’s frustrations and why his role within Golden State’s rotation was a hindrance to the young guard. Iguodala also shared how he tried to give Poole some advice throughout their time together.

“It was a hindrance to Jordan Poole. Jordan was like, ‘Why can’t I go out and be free like them?’  Yeah, he doesn’t have four rings; he has one. But he won us a game in the finals. He did do that; he won us game five. And so he’s coming back like, ‘no, I’ve shown y’all that, give me some freedom. And I’m on the team in scoring. So, why should I be the guy that has to dial back?’

…He’s my brother, he knows this, I love him to death…It looked like it could have been a rebel in there. Like, nah man, I’m second on the team in scoring. When we first got into the league, if you was a bucket, you got to take off on the other end.”

Poole will now continue his career with the Washington Wizards, where he projects to have more freedom on offense as he bids to prove himself as a building block for the future.

On the other hand, Golden State will now be integrating Chris Paul into their rotation, as he joined the team as part of the Poole deal earlier this summer.

Warriors owner sheds light on reasons for Jordan Poole trade

During a recent podcast appearance Warriors owner Joe Lacob discussed the decision to trade Jordan Poole.

Following a disappointing end to their 2022-23 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors decided to trade Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards in return for Chris Paul. The decision came almost a year after the incident between Draymond Green and Poole.

When speaking on a recent episode of “The TK Show,” Warriors owner Joe Lacob shed some light on the decision-making process that went into trading away the young sharpshooting guard. Lacob noted how the front office knew somebody was going to be the odd man out; they just didn’t know Poole would be that guy.

“I think it’s fair to say that there was some level of concern going forward, whether that was going to be something that would work out,” Lacob told The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami (h/t to Alex Espinoza of 95.7 The Game for the transcription.) To be honest with you, I think it would have worked out and could have worked out. But I think it is fair to say that in order to make the team work next year, to make the numbers work and so on, someone probably was gonna be the odd man out. It just turned out — and it wasn’t planned — that it was Jordan.”

Poole will get a fresh start with the Wizards, with whom he can grow into his new role as a focal point of the offense. The Warriors get a veteran star guard to improve their second unit and guard rotation. The deal might have been a difficult one to stomach, but it’s one that likely needed to happen.

Andre Iguodala defends Jordan Poole’s final season with Warriors

Andre Iguodala believes Jordan Poole is getting too much blame for the Golden State Warriors shortcomings last season.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Since being traded by the Golden State Warriors, a lot has been said regarding Jordan Poole‘s effect on the locker room and how he performed throughout his final season with the franchise. Poole ended the 2022-23 season with averages of 20.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds, shooting 43% from the field and 33.6% from 3-point range.

According to Andre Iguodala, who was speaking on a recent episode of ‘Gil’s Arena,’ with Gilbert Arenas, Poole’s performances were not the problem last season. The four-time NBA champion also praised Poole’s ability to get to the free-throw line for his former team, noting how no other member of the roster was able to draw fouls consistently.

“He was the only one that got to the line for us consistently,” Iguodala said. “People act like he had a bad year. I’m like, a bad year? Ya’ll blame him for the year we had last year? He averaged 20.”

Poole is now starting a new chapter in his career with the Washington Wizards. After spending his first four years in the NBA learning from Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Poole will now get the opportunity to shine in a bigger role for a rebuilding team that can give him the touches and shooting volume that he desires.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying that Poole’s presence on Golden State’s roster was a distraction. The altercation between Draymond Green and Poole ahead of last season ensured the Warriors never reached their usual level. Now, with Poole residing in the Eastern Conference, both sides have the opportunity for a fresh start and a new chance at success.

Watch: Jordan Poole calls for iso against Draymond Green in latest NBA 2K24 trailer

Draymond Green and Jordan Poole met on the court in a recent trailer for the upcoming NBA 2K24 video game.

Nearly a year later, the chatter over Draymond Green’s notorious punch to Jordan Poole during the Golden State Warriors 2022 training camp is still buzzing.

It was given new life this offseason when the Golden State Warriors traded Poole in a blockbuster deal with the Washington Wizards in early summer.

The upcoming NBA 2K video game is the latest to add fuel to the Green vs. Poole saga.

In the latest trailer for the new edition of NBA 2K, we received our first look at what Green and Poole will look like going against each other on opposite teams. In the new trailer for the popular sports video game, there’s a quick clip of Poole with the ball calling for Green to guard him in isolation.

With the NBA schedule set to release on Thursday, we will get a date of when Green and Poole will officially meet on the court for the first time in the upcoming season.

NBA 2K24 is set to release on Sep. 8.

NBA 2K24’s trailer shows Jordan Poole calling for an iso on Draymond Green and fans loved the drama

This was one heck of way to add fuel to the fire.

The beef between Jordan Poole and Draymond Green is well-documented. We first got real inklings of it when Green punched his former Golden State Warriors teammate during a 2022 practice. With Poole officially a member of the Washington Wizards, his father tried to reignite the differences between the two earlier this summer.

And now, the release of NBA 2K24 appears to be doing the same.

With the video game releasing early next month, the developers released a new gameplay trailer Tuesday. In addition to various superstars being highlighted, it shows off a specific moment where Poole clearly calls for an iso against Green. And there is no way it’s a coincidence.

See for yourself at about the 41-second mark below:

In a trailer that shows off some of the NBA’s biggest names doing amazing things — Nikola Jokic, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry — it is notable that it chose to highlight Poole and Green against one another. They are by no means bad players, but they are far from stars who warrant singular attention on their own.

And yet, here we have their virtual selves squaring up on the perimeter.

It seems even video games understand that this beef might not be going away any time soon. A word of caution: If you want to recreate this potential future moment yourself, you’d have to use the sorry Wizards in the game. And I would not advise that if you like experiencing joy.

Klay Thompson addresses Jordan Poole trade

Klay Thompson shared some high praise for Jordan Poole during a recent podcast appearance.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Despite rumors to the contrary, it appears Klay Thompson is genuinely sad to see Jordan Poole leave the Golden State Warriors.

Poole was traded to the Washington Wizards as part of the Chris Paul deal. However, since leaving San Francisco, there have been many discussions regarding whether Poole had created fractious relationships with some of the veterans on Golden State’s roster.

In a recent appearance on the “Podcast P with Paul George” podcast, which Wave Sports + Entertainment presents, Thompson discussed Poole’s departure, noting how the young sharpshooter played a significant role in Golden State’s 2022 championship run.

“It hurts to see Jordan go. He was homegrown. I saw him put the work in. I saw him go 2-for-15 in a game, but then he would be in the dungeon — which we call our practice facility, because there’s no windows — getting shots up right after the game. I’m like, ‘Man, this kid’s going to be special. And we wouldn’t have won the championship without him. He was so important to us when Steph went down. He’s definitely got All-Star potential. I’m excited for him; Washington got a good one.”

Poole’s tenure with the Warriors took a sharp turn when he was embroiled in a controversial incident with Draymond Green last summer: The veteran forward punched Poole during a training camp workout.

Nevertheless, Poole now finds himself with an opportunity to grow into a starring role with the Wizards, which is something he could never have asked for in Golden State. As such, Poole may be missed by his former teammates, but the trade appears to have worked out for both sides.

Warriors GM reveals decision behind Jordan Poole trade

The Golden State Warriors front office prioritized retaining Draymond Green this summer, but that meant making a tough decision.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Heading into the offseason, the Golden State Warriors had a decision to make regarding Draymond Green’s future with the franchise.

Green, 33, has been a core member of the Warriors dynasty and is a generational defensive talent. However, for Golden State to retain Green beyond his current deal, the front office had to clear cap room.

According to Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy, who was speaking to The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami, the front office’s desire to retain Green led it to trade Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards. However, Dunleavy noted the Warriors are comfortable that Chris Paul can fill the void left behind by the 24-year-old sharpshooter.

“At the same time, we needed to get Draymond back, what he brings to this team and what he has meant for the last 10 years,” Dunleavy said. “That’s going to keep going. That matters. So we prioritized that. And from there, we knew … another contract probably needed to be moved. And Jordan ended up being that one. But we feel like getting a player back of Chris Paul’s caliber can negate that in some ways or pick up that slack, It’s kind of the business that we do. And we’re in a good spot.”

With Green’s future secure, the Warriors can turn their attention toward Klay Thompson, who is entering the final year of his five-year $189.3 million deal and will become an unrestricted free agent next summer. As such, Dunleavy and Golden State’s front office has another big decision to make next year, but for now, the Warriors’ core is intact and ready to compete at the highest level.

Jordan Poole works out with Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Seth Curry

Jordan Poole recently worked out with a pair of his former Golden State teammates.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Despite the Golden State Warriors trading Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards at the start of the 2023 NBA offseason, the 24-year-old guard linked up with his former teammates over the summer for a workout.

Steph’s brother Seth shared a set of photos by photographer Devin Allen from a recent workout that included Curry, Klay Thompson, Poole and rookie Scoot Henderson. Curry’s longtime trainer Brandon Payne was also at the workout.

Since being traded to the Wizards, Poole has also worked out with former Warriors Nemanja Bjelica and Kevin Durant.

Poole headlined a trade package from the Warriors in a deal that included Chris Paul heading to the Bay Area from Washington. Poole spent his career playing alongside Curry and Thompson since being drafted by the Warriors in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft.

In four seasons with the Warriors, Poole averaged 15.8 points on 42.1% shooting from the field to go along with 3.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds.

Jordan Poole’s playoff woes led to trade

Jordan Poole’s playoff struggles could have led to the Golden State Warriors deciding to trade him.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Jordan Poole struggled to make an impact for the Golden State Warriors during the 2023 NBA playoffs. In 13 postseason appearances, Poole averaged 10.3 points and 3.5 assists while shooting 25.4% from 3-point range on 4.8 attempts per game. For a Warriors team hoping to defend its 2022 championship, Poole’s struggles off the bench seriously hamstrung Golden State’s second unit’s ability to make an offensive impact.

According to an anonymous Western Conference executive, who recently spoke with Sean Deveney of Heavy.com, Poole’s postseason struggles were what led the Warriors to trade him. The executive also noted the decision to move on from Poole was centered on being able to retain Klay Thompson beyond his current contract.

“Poole was awful in the playoffs,” the executive told Deveney “I don’t think all this stuff about everyone hating him, that kind of garbage is not fair. It was performance with him. He did not perform when it mattered, again, and that made it pretty easy to make the case to trade him and create a little more flexibility to keep Klay (Klay Thomspon) and Draymond (Green). The Chris Paul thing is a nice experiment they can try for a year, basically. But it’s going to be about keeping Klay.”

The Warriors are expected to allow Thomspon to play out the final year of his current deal before entering into contract negotiations with him. However, by removing Poole’s contract, Golden State has given itself additional flexibility to retain one of their core players.

Furthermore, Chris Paul’s deal will be non-guaranteed in 2024, which could afford the Warriors’ front office additional wiggle room.

For now, though, Golden State will focus on the task at hand, which is integrating their recently acquired talents and challenging for another championship.
