Xavier landed one of the top shooters in the class of 2024 on Wednesday.

Xavier landed one of the top sharpshooters in the class of 2024 on Wednesday when Centerville (Ohio) four-star shooting guard Jonathan Powell announced his commitment.

The scouting report on Powell is that he’s a stone-cold assassin from three-point range. Here are some of his high school highlights.

Powell (6-foot-6, 170 pounds) ranks No. 95 nationally in his class, No. 18 among shooting guards and No. 2 overall in the state of Ohio.

A popular recruit, Powell also had offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Cincinnati, Dayton, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and Ohio.

Michigan State basketball: Who’s next in the 2024 recruiting class

MSU already has 2 commits in their 2024 recruiting class, check out who could be next:

Michigan State picked up their second commitment of the 2024 recruiting class on Thursday, picking up Ohio big man Jesse McCulloch. McCulloch joins fellow 4-star Kur Teng, a wing from Massachusetts.

McCulloch and Teng are two solid prospects to start with in 2024, but now it is time for Izzo and company to round out their recruiting class.

The Spartans almost surely will be picking up a 3rd player in the class, but I would not be surprised if they want another 4-man class in 2024.

Positionally, I do not expect the Spartans to pursue a point guard, being well off at that position. The center spot is also a 50/50 whether Izzo pursues, but adding another wing appears to be the direction MSU for sure will go in.

Check out some prospects on MSU’s board as the 2024 class unfolds:

Michigan State basketball offers 2024 Ohio guard

MSU has extended an offer to a 2024 Ohio combo guard

With Michigan State securing a top-5 recruiting class in 2023, Tom Izzo has focused a lot of attention to the 2024 recruiting class. That continued Saturday.

Izzo and his staff have extended an offer to 2024 Ohio guard Jonathan Powell. Powell is a native of Dayton, Ohio.

Michigan State joins the likes of Ohio State, Alabama, Illinois and Indiana, among others, in offerring the 6-foot-6 combo guard.

Alabama MBB offers 2024 SG from Ohio, Jonathan Powell

Alabama offers highly sought-after 2024 shooting guard Jonathan Powell.

On Saturday, 2024 guard Jonathan Powell announced via Twitter that Alabama had reached out with an official offer. It is offer No. 10 for Powell up to this point.

Powell is listed at 6-foot-6 and 170 pounds. His size is something that head coach Nate Oats would love to have. In the past, he has had taller shooting guards in John Petty Jr. and Josh Primo who both stood at 6-foot-6.

Thus far, the Ohio native has impressed quite a number of coaches. Programs like Ohio State, Illinois, Notre Dame and Texas A&M have extended offers.

According to On3’s RPM, he is favored to commit to Xavier at 24.4% likelihood. There is not a clear favorite to land Powell. Perhaps, Alabama can come into the mix in the near future.

Powell is being recruited primarily by assistant coach and stellar recruiter Bryan Hodgson. Over the years, Hodgson has been the lead recruiter for [autotag]Jaden Bradley[/autotag], [autotag]Brandon Miller[/autotag], [autotag]Charles Bediako[/autotag], and Josh Primo. The Tide hope that Powell pays them a visit in the future.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball as the offseason continues and the coaching staff hits the recruiting trail.
