The second season of the United States Football League 2.0 has kicked off and it appears this spring league may be here to stay. A few former Ohio State players have shined, and we like to keep tabs on it all.

It is always great to see former Buckeyes live their dream, and I will always tune in and pay attention to alternative football leagues to support these young guys chasing their dreams. The USFL has eight teams: the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, Memphis Showboats, Michigan Panthers, New Jersey Generals, New Orleans Breakers, Pittsburgh Maulers and the Philadelphia Stars. Let’s dive into the four former Buckeyes that see action in the USFL.

The United States Football League is back and despite not seeing talent like Steve Young, Herschel Walker, or Reggie White suit up anytime soon, it will still be a fun experience and more than a few former Ohio State Buckeyes will get another shot to chase their dreams.

We originally broke down every former Buckeye drafted in the 35 round expansion draft and then we covered the additions of a few more Buckeyes from the USFL supplemental draft. With all of those somewhat dizzying moments, we thought it would be a good time to recap every former Ohio State stud in the USFL. Who will be your favorite USFL team?

Reflectin on every former Ohio State player selected in the 2022 USFL draft

The United States Football League is back and — full transparency — it is not exactly better than ever, but it is still hanging around and maybe one day this league will have the success and talent that we once saw when Steve Young, Herschel Walker, and Reggie White were running the show.

The USFL 2.0 held their 35 round draft on Tuesday and Wednesday and as I have mentioned numerous times before, the setting was awkward with each round focusing on one position. Still, it was entertaining to watch with some memorable names. There were only three former Ohio State football players taken, but we will dive into where they are heading and what we can expect.

The United States Football League 2.0 is kicking off with the USFL Draft tonight and although the draft is painful to watch due to the rounds being broken down by position, it has still been enjoyable watching some recognizable names get another professional opportunity.

I for one was expecting Cardale Jones to make a surprise appearance during the first round which featured quarterbacks, but unfortunately, I was met with disappointment. Fear not though as a former Buckeye did make an appearance in the fourth round as Jonathan Newsome was selected with the tenth pick in the round.

Few fans may remember Newsome, but he was a Big 33 All-Star recruit out of Glenville High School in Cleveland and played sparingly in two seasons, but did earn one start before transferring to Ball State and absolutely dominating the MAC.

Newsome was actually drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts and was solid before moving onto the CFL and finding stardom with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Ottawa Redblacks, and BC Lions.
