Watch: Chris Paul offers Jonathan Kuminga advice ahead of Bulls game

Chris Paul can be seen offering some veteran advice to Jonathan Kuminga ahead of the Golden State Warriors loss to the Chicago Bulls.

When the Golden State Warriors acquired Chris Paul in the Jordan Poole trade this past summer, there was significant hope the veteran guard could help develop some of the younger talent on the roster. Paul has a reputation for expediting the development of young talents primarily due to his on-court leadership and selfless style of play.

This season, Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis have emerged as legitimate rotation players for Steve Kerr‘s team. While Paul’s presence can’t be credited for the youth movement taking place in the Bay Area, it certainly isn’t hindering the process.

On Thursday as the Warriors were preparing to face the Chicago Bulls, Paul could be seen coaching Kuminga on the sidelines. A video has since surfaced on social media, showing the veteran guard’s coaching skills in action.

With Steph Curry sidelined for the Warriors’ game against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, Paul will have a chance to provide additional coaching in real-time, as he continues to impart his wisdom on the Warriors’ next generation of talent.

Chris Paul praises Jonathan Kuminga’s growth this season

Chris Paul has been impressed with Jonathan Kuminga’s growth this season and what he means to the Golden State Warriors rotation.

Jonathan Kuminga has emerged as an integral Golden State Warriors rotation member. The third-year forward has been thriving as part of the starting lineup in a new-look frontcourt that includes Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green. His athleticism has ensured Steve Kerr has a legitimate rim threat whenever he’s on the court.

When speaking to the media following Golden State’s win over the Toronto Raptors on Friday. Chris Paul praised the growth he’s seen from Kuminga this season. The veteran guard also stressed the importance the young forward has for the Warriors and how his presence makes the roster more complete.

“Early in the season I bet JK probably hated us because we were on him all the time, but it’s, we see so much in him,” Paul said. “The energy he brings with our team, and that gelling with us, who play a cerebral game, it’s great brand of basketball.”

Kuminga is averaging 15.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting 53.3% from the field and 30.3% from 3-point range. He has started 32 of the 58 games he’s participated in. He is also quickly emerging as a future All-Star in the Western Conference.

Golden State’s sudden resurgence has ensured the team has an opportunity to qualify for the postseason. Kuminga will likely have a big role to play for Steve Kerr’s team when that time comes. For now, he needs to continue making the most of his opportunities and improving his game.

NBA Twitter reacts to Warriors victory over Raptors for eighth straight road win

With a win over the Raptors, the Warriors have stacked up eight straight victories on the road.

After struggling throughout last season, specifically on the road, the Golden State Warriors are thriving on the road in the 2023-24 season. After starting their road trip with a pair of wins, the Warriors notched another victory on Friday against the Toronto Raptors for their eighth straight win on the road.

After scoring a game-high 31 points on Thursday night against the Knicks, Steph Curry picked up right where he left off on the second leg of a back-to-back against the Raptors on Friday. Curry tallied a game-high 25 points with seven made 3-pointers to go along with six rebounds and six assists in 30 minutes.

During the Warriors 120-105 win over the Raptors, Jonathan Kuminga continued his breakout campaign, scoring 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting from the field with six boards and two assists in 27 minutes.

Watch: Jonathan Kuminga hits ‘too small’ celebration after bucket over Jalen Brunson

Jonathan Kuminga broke out the “too small” celebration against Jalen Brunson and the Knicks.

While Steph Curry stole the show with eight made 3-pointers on the way to 31 points against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Jonathan Kuminga continued his impressive stretch of games with another solid performance on Thursday night.

Trailing only Curry, Kuminga notched 25 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field with eight rebounds, two steals, two blocks and two assists in 30 minutes during Golden State’s 110-99 win in New York.

While Kuminga continues to compile highlight-reel dunks with his bounce and athleticism, the 21-year-old wing used his strength and size to get a tough bucket over All-Star guard Jalen Brunson on Thursday.

In the second quarter, Kuminga powered past Brunson for a bucket in the lane. Following his score, Kuminga broke out the “too small” celebration while jogging back down the court.

Via @NBCSWarriors on X:

Kuminga has registered back-to-back games with 21 or more points for the Warriors, scoring 21 against the Washington Wizards and 25 against the New York Knicks in two straight road games.

Top 3 statistical performers from Warriors’ win vs. Lakers

Here are the top three statistical performers from the Golden State Warriors win over the Los Angeles Lakers

The Golden State Warriors secured a big win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. Steph Curry led the way with 32 points, adding another impressive performance to his already fantastic season. The victory ensured the Warriors returned from the All-Star break in the best fashion possible and helped them continue working toward their goal of avoiding the play-in tournament.

Klay Thompson continued in his new role off the bench, and Andrew Wiggins once again impressed in what is becoming a rapid resurgence following a difficult start to the season. Steve Kerr‘s team appears to be finding new gear at the perfect time.

Golden State is back in action on Friday when they will face the Charlotte Hornets in a contest that should result in another win for Golden State, assuming they continue performing at their current level. However, before we focus on that game, let’s look at who played well for Golden State on Thursday. Here are the Warriors’ top three statistical performers.

Former Warrior wants Jonathan Kuminga to enter the dunk contest

Juan Toscano-Anderson wants to see Jonathan Kuminga enter the NBA dunk contest.

Juan Toscano-Anderson wants Jonathan Kuminga to commit to the 2025 dunk contest. The former Golden State Warriors wing believes his former team’s emerging star could make a major splash in the struggling event, and would draw a fresh set of eyes from fans around the world.

Kuminga has flashed his athleticism at multiple points this season. He’s rapidly become Steve Kerr‘s best rim threat and has added a dimension to Golden State’s offensive approach. As such, Toscano shared his thoughts on X, formerly known as Twitter, anointing him as the best athlete he “had ever been around.”

Kuminga, 21, would be an ideal addition to the dunk contest next season. He would follow in the footsteps of Jaylen Brown, who stepped into the event this year before losing to Mac McClung. Kuminga is arguably a more gifted athlete than Brown, which could give him an advantage.

Nevertheless, Warriors fans would likely prefer the young star to focus on developing his game and establish himself as a key member of the franchise’s future. Still, if an opportunity to compete and potentially win the dunk contest arises, it would be fun to see him competing against some of the best dunkers in the world.

Top 3 statistical performers from Warriors’ loss vs. Clippers

Here are the Golden State Warriors top three statistical performers from their loss to the LA Clippers.

The Golden State Warriors let a lead slip away during the fourth quarter; as such, they fell to the LA Clippers on Wednesday. The loss has dented Golden State’s recent resurgence and likely put them under pressure to secure a win against the Utah Jazz on Thursday.

Klay Thompson‘s decision to foul Russell Westbrook with 39 seconds remaining and the Warriors trailing by three points is likely part of why the team lost. However, Golden State’s continued inability to hold onto a lead stood out as their biggest flaw. Of course, the Clippers are one of the best teams in the NBA this season; losing to them isn’t the type of result that will set off alarm bells.

Nevertheless, the Warriors will likely want to turn their attention toward the Jazz as they look to enter the All-Star break on a good note. However, before we begin focusing on the upcoming game, it’s worth taking one more look at how the team performed against the Clippers.

Here are the Warriors top three statistical performers from their Feb. 14 loss.

Jonathan Kuminga was untouchable at the trade deadline

Jonathan Kuminga wasn’t part of the Golden State Warriors trade deadline plans.

The Golden State Warriors opted against bringing in any new talent at the Feb. 8 trade deadline, but they struck a deal to send Cory Joseph to the Indiana Pacers. Joseph was later waived. By choosing to stand pat, it would appear the Warriors franchise has faith in the current roster to turn their season around.

According to Mike Dunleavy Jr., as The Athletic’s Anthony Slater reported, Jonathan Kuminga was virtually untouchable in trade discussions. The third-year forward has been enjoying a breakout season and looks like a legitimate star of the future in the Bay Area.

“Mike Dunleavy said Jonathan Kuminga was “virtually” untouchable in trade talks: “As untouchable as guys can be in this league. Didn’t see a scenario where Jonathan wouldn’t be on our team after this deadline,”” Slater wrote on X.
Kuminga has participated in 48 games this season. He’s averaging 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists, shooting 53.6% from the field and 31.7% from 3-point range. His athleticism and explosiveness have provided the Warriors with a genuine threat around the rim, allowing them to add pressure on opposing teams’ interior defense.
Warriors fans will hope Steve Kerr continues to develop Kuminga. Given his overall improvements, there’s hope that he can continue to grow and work toward being an All-Star-level talent in the future. As such, it makes sense the Warriors were unwilling to part with one of their best young players in any potential trades.

Bulls asked for 21-year-old forward in potential Alex Caruso trade

The Chicago Bulls reportedly asked for Jonathan Kuminga in Alex Caruso trade talks with the Golden State Warriors.

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone, and while a bunch of teams around the league were active, the Chicago Bulls stood pat. Despite their mediocre season and lack of a real path forward, they decided to hold onto their assets instead of capitalizing on the value of the quality players they have on their roster.

A lot of Bulls drew serious trade interest at the deadline, too. Guys like DeMar DeRozan and Andre Drummond were obvious trade candidates, but Alex Caruso was by far the most desired player they could have made available. One team that showed a ton of interest in Caruso was the Golden State Warriors.

However, according to KC Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago, the Bulls wanted Jonathan Kuminga back in a deal, an idea that the Warriors “rebuffed.”

“In exploratory trade talks with the Golden State Warriors centered on Caruso, league sources said the Bulls inquired about Jonathan Kuminga’s availability,” Johnson wrote. “That was rebuffed, and the Bulls made clear in talks with all teams that they didn’t want to trade Caruso, especially for a package on perhaps other young pieces like Moses Moody, so they’d need to be floored by an offer to do so.”

It makes sense that the Bulls value Caruso highly, but this is probably the peak of his trade value. By not trading him now, the Bulls will have to consider moving him next year when hee’s on an expiring deal, and if they don’t, he could simply leave in 2025 free agency.

Top 3 statistical performers from Warriors’ win vs. Grizzlies

Here are the top three statistical performers from the Golden State Warriors win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

The Golden State Warriors have won three of their last five games. Their latest victory came against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday (Feb. 2.) Multiple players flashed their elite-level upside as they helped Steve Kerr‘s team secure another win in an attempt to build some momentum heading into the All-Star break.

Golden State’s win comes on the first night of a back-to-back, with the team set to face the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday (Feb. 3.) Fortunately for the Warriors, multiple members of the team’s younger core have begun making impactful contributions, either as part of the starting lineup or when coming off the bench.

As such, Kerr will likely feel comfortable with his team’s ability to deal with the tough scheduling while maintaining their effort level and pace of play. Still, before we begin looking ahead to the Hawks game, let’s take a look at which three members of the Warriors roster stood out in the win over Memphis.
