1. The Blue Devils are coming off a 113-101 double-overtime loss at Wake Forest last time out, and they’re just 2-5 ATS across the past seven games overall with the Over hitting in four straight.

2. Duke ranks second in the nation with 83.3 points per game (PPG), while Virginia is No. 1 in the country with just 52.7 PPG allowed and No. 2 in the nation in field-goal percentage allowed (37.2%).

3. Virginia enters play 3-0-1 ATS across the past four outings, and the Hoos are 8-1 SU over the previous nine.

DUKE (-167) heads into this one looking to bounce back after a tough loss at Wake Forest. They’ve had several days to rest after being on the short end of a double-overtime thriller. Virginia (+135) has struggled against the top-flight teams. While they’ve pieced together a nice win streak lately, the Blue Devils are the better bet to bounce back.

New to sports betting? A $10 wager on the Blue Devils returns a $6 profit. A wager of $10 on the Cavaliers returns a profit of $13.50.

Against the Spread (ATS)

DUKE (-3.5, -106) is in good shape for this one if you go by the series trends. The road team is an impressive 21-5-1 ATS across the past 27 meetings in this series. Virginia (+3.5, -115) has that grinding style and suffocating defense, but if the Blue Devils start to run wild, it’s doubtful the Cavs have enough to hang with them. UVA will need to dictate the style early to have a chance.

Over/Under (O/U)

AVOID. Duke is a good Over bet usually, and Virginia has been a consistent Under bet all season. This one is likely to be right on the number, even if UVA gives up a little more than they usually do. The total 124.5 is just too risky for this game.

  2.  Both teams are coming off thrilling wins against conference opponents—Florida State beat Notre Dame 85-84 Jan. 25, and Virginia beat Wake Forest in 65-63 overtime Jan. 26.
  3.  Florida State’s current No. 5 AP ranking is the school’s highest in Leonard Hamilton’s 18 years as head coach.

Moneyline (ML)

The Seminoles have a more talented core at the moment compared to a Virginia program which lost three players to the NBA from last year’s National Championship team. Florida State has played four RSCI Top-100 recruits while Virginia has had only three of their five RSCI top-100 recruits see action.

Florida State is a much more balanced team than Virginia. The Seminoles are ranked 66th in points per game and 71st in opponent PPG. The Cavaliers allow the fewest PPG but 350 schools are scoring more points per game. In three games against ranked opponents, Florida State is 3-0 with a plus-9.3 margin of victory and Virginia is just 1-1.

Against the Spread (ATS)

Being that the line is just +/-1.5 points, we are going to PASS on betting against the spread and put our total Florida State-Virginia gambling allowance on the moneyline. Over/Under (O/U)

The projected total of 115.5 total is comically low in this game and I’m going to PASS. Their combined Over/Under record is 19-19, Virginia’s O/U record is 26-42 since 2015 and in Virginia home games this season the O/U is 4-7. There’s no way I’m throwing money at this total.

PASS. Talk about chalk. Virginia (-650) is going to win, but the price is too high – every $6.50 wagered on the Cavaliers ML will only profit $1 if they prevail. South Carolina (+475) offers close to a 5-to-1 payoff, but it ain’t happening.

Against the Spread (ATS)

SOUTH CAROLINA (+10.5, -110) is catching double digits on the road, and that’s a little much. The Gamecocks aren’t a great team, but they’re not bad, either. While they have struggled with the perimeter shooting, they’ll be able to get some inside scoring against Virginia (-10.5, -110). The Wahoos don’t blow anyone out, but they aren’t about to lose this one, either.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 112 (-110) is the play, as this one isn’t going over 110. In this day and age that sounds crazy to say, but Virginia just tosses a blanket on the opposition and teams struggle to score 50 against the Cavs. In fact, that’s considered a ‘good’ day.

Virginia (-250) is a little steep on the moneyline, and North Carolina (+200) cannot be trusted after their showing Wednesday. Plus, UNC will be without super frosh F Armando Bacot (ankle), as he is expected to be out indefinitely.

Against the Spread (ATS)

NORTH CAROLINA (+3.5, +115) will be catching a few points in this one, and even though it’s shorthanded, it will be able to keep Virginia within arm’s length. The Cavaliers (-3.5, -139) don’t blow anyone out, and they play a slow, deliberate style which keeps the opposition in it even when they’re not playing their best. Take UNC and the points.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS. The O/U 115.5 (+115, -139) is so low based on Virginia’s deliberate style. The Under is 4-0 in UNC’s past four on the road, and 25-9 in the past 34 overall. VERMONT (+14.5, +100) is battled tested, having recorded strong wins over St. John’s, as well as fellow mid-major powerhouses Bucknell and St. Bonaventure in their cribs already this season. The Catamounts won’t be intimidated playing at JPJ.

Virginia (-14.5, -120) has the big man Mamadi Diakite, and he is likely to neutralize Lamb somewhat. If he has his hands full, the Catamounts could make the Cavaliers work pretty hard. I expect this game to be decided in single digits.

Over/Under (O/U)

PASS. The total (113.5) is going to be super close to the number one way or the other in a defensive slog. It’s my personal rule of thumb that I try not to bet totals lower than 130 in college hoops. This is the equivalent to a 37- or 38-point number in college football. It’s just too low.
