John Forster previews spring visits, talks Rutgers football

John Forster breaks down his recent visit to Rutgers football.

John Forster will have a busy spring as the four-star running back is planning out his list of visits. One of those programs that will get a visit is Rutgers football.

Forster took a recent unofficial visit to Rutgers that helped put the program in a good spot for one of the state’s top players. The class of 2025 talent is coming off a very strong season at St. Joseph’s (Montvale, New Jersey) where he emerged as a playmaker when he got the ball in his hands.

This past year, playing behind Yasin Willis, a senior running back who flipped from Pittsburgh to Syracuse, Forster ran for 311 yards and five touchdowns on 50 carries. He also had 14 catches for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Rivals ranks the 5-foot-11, 185-pound Forster as a four-star and a top-five player in the state. As such, his recent visit to Rutgers was an important one for the program to continue their relationship with the running back.

He was one of several high-profile recruits to visit Rutgers in late January for the men’s basketball game against No. 2 Purdue.

“The visit was amazing,” Forster told Rutgers Wire.

“Getting to see the atmosphere of the basketball game and spending time with the staff went really well.”

He is ranked the No. 134 recruit in the nation by Rivals.

With good hips and balance, Forster has breakaway speed that is impressive. Once he gets to the second level, he is elusive and has big play ability.

Patient in the backfield, he reads, reacts and can change direction easily. Forster was used as a running back and in the slot by St. Joseph’s.

As for Rutgers, Forster says that the relationship as a whole stands out to him. The effort by the Big Ten program is something that he says is very noticeable.

“They’ve been doing good, I’ve been speaking to them often,” Forster said.

“And the constant communication is definitely important to me.”

Forster said that right now, a number of programs have distinguished themselves in terms of recruiting him the hardest as “they’re all showing a lot of interest.”

Four-star running back John Forster reacts to visit for the Ohio State game

John Forster updates his visit this past weekend to Rutgers football.

It was a good visit to Rutgers for John Forster as one of New Jersey’s top recruits was at SHI Stadium on Saturday for the Big Ten game against Ohio State.

Forster was one of 300 recruits who took in an exciting game and a strong performance from Rutgers. Up 9-7 at halftime, Rutgers played well and was only down 21-16 early in the fourth quarter against the nation’s top-ranked team.

A class of 2025 recruit, Forster is a four-star running back at St. Joseph’s (Montvale). He is the No. 4 recruit in New Jersey and the ninth-best running back in the nation according to Rivals.

He broke down his visit to Rutgers for Saturday’s game against Ohio State.

“Things with Rutgers are (going) really well,” Forster told Rutgers Wire on Sunday.

“I’ve become really close with all of the coaching staff and built a strong connection with them. I look forward to continuing to do so and see what happens from there.”

He has an offer list that includes Boston College, UConn, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others.

Playing in what is arguably the most talented backfield in New Jersey alongside seniors Terrance Sumter and Yasin Willis, there has certainly been a sharing of the carries for Forster. Sumter, Willis and Forster have all had to split the workload for a very strong St. Joseph’s team.

He still has managed 300 rushing yards in six games and is averaging 6.4 yards per carry. He has five rushing touchdowns on the season.

“Season has been going really well, the team has been very focused and we are all on the game page,” Forster said.

“I’ve been having a productive season myself although battling an ankle injury in the beginning. Recruiting has been going very well, I’m still keeping in touch with all coaches and communicating with them weekly.

“I definitely look to take many more visits after the season to figure out where my new home will be.”
