The Falcons defeated the Panthers in Week 11, thanks in part to quarterback Matt Ryan’s 311 passing yards. It was a typical day at the office for Ryan, who’s routinely thrown for big numbers during his twelve NFL seasons.

The former MVP QB has now moved into the top ten in terms of career passing yardage, passing Warren Moon on Sunday.

At 34 years old, Ryan could potentially play for another five seasons, which would likely put him into the top five or higher if he keeps up his current level of production.

Ryan has 49,383 passing yards, which puts him just 2,092 yards behind Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway, who is ninth on the list with 51,475 career passing yards.

Statistically, it’s clear that Ryan is one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history, however, he needs to win a Super Bowl to really cement his legacy.

Ryan should have at least a few more cracks at redeeming the Falcons’ 2016 Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots. However, this season may have already gone to waste with the team starting 3-7.

4 Broncos squads make NFL’s list of 100 greatest teams

John Elway and Peyton Manning quarterbacked the four Broncos squads that made the NFL’s list of 100 greatest teams in league history.

In celebration of the league’s 100 years, the Associated Press created a list of the 100 greatest teams in NFL history and NFL Network put together a countdown series based on the list.

Four Denver Broncos teams made the cut.

Coming in at No. 86 on the list is the 2013 Broncos, a team that smashed offensive records in the regular season but suffered an embarrassing loss in the Super Bowl.

Denver’s 2015 team is ranked No. 58, which many Broncos fans would say is too low. It’s a fitting number, though, given that outside linebacker Von Miller wore No. 58 when he earned MVP honors in Super Bowl 50.

Just nine spots up in the rankings from the 2013 squad, Denver’s 1997 team is ranked No. 50. Again, many Broncos fans probably feel that’s too low.

It’s no surprise that Denver’s highest-ranked squad is the 1998 team, which started the year 13-0 on the way to a convincing Super Bowl win. That team is ranked No. 14 on the list.

Nate Davis considers Broncos ‘highly unlikely’ to sign Colin Kaepernick

Nate Davis believes the Broncos are “highly unlikely” to sign free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

After news broke that the NFL will hold a private workout and interview for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick, USA TODAY’s Nate Davis ranked each team’s likeliness to sign the QB. The Denver Broncos came in at No. 22, under the “highly unlikely” category.

Here is Davis’ commentary with the Broncos’ ranking:

The possibility basically hinges on GM John Elway’s level of desperation to take another crack at solving a problem that’s existed since Peyton Manning retired. Of course, Elway, who once nearly acquired Kaepernick in a trade, hasn’t handled this topic so gracefully over the years.

It’s true that Elway hasn’t appeared to be too keen on Kaepernick since he was spurned by the QB in 2016, stating last summer that Kaepernick “had his chance” to join the team and turned it down. It’s also true that Kaepernick’s camp hasn’t been very graceful, either.

Kaepernick’s lawyer, Mark Geragos, said last year that Elway is “apparently suffering from some real brain trauma,” which wasn’t a very wise remark to make given that Elway is one of the candidates to sign his client.

The Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers are among the teams Davis considers most likely to sign Kaepernick. He considers the Washington Redskins the least likely. View the complete rankings here.

Broncos will send a scout to Colin Kaepernick’s workout

The Broncos will send a scout to free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s workout in Atlanta.

The NFL announced Tuesday that the league is hosting a workout and interview session for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Saturday. The workout and interview will take place in Atlanta.

All of the league’s 32 teams have been invited to the event and the Denver Broncos will be represented by a scout, general manager John Elway told KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis on Wednesday. Klis’ report was confirmed by The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

The news is a little surprising given Elway’s tone on Kaepernick when he was asked about the QB last year.

“I said this a while ago: Colin had his chance to be here,” Elway said during a training camp press conference in August 2018. “We offered him a contract [and] he didn’t take it.”

Elway was referencing the 2016 offseason when Denver tried to trade for Kaepernick when he was still a member of the San Francisco 49ers. As part of the deal, the Broncos wanted the QB to take a significant pay cut. Kaepernick opted not to take a reduced salary.

“He had his chance to be here,” Elway said last August. “He passed [on] it.”

After missing out on Kaepernick, Denver selected Paxton Lynch in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft. Lynch, Trevor Siemian, Brock Osweiler, Case Keenum, Joe Flaco and Brandon Allen have all started games for the Broncos since then and Drew Lock might be added to the list later this year.

Kaepernick tried to prove that NFL owners colluded not to sign him in part because of his national anthem protests during the 2016 season and Elway was among league executives who were deposed in the lawsuit. The NFL reached a settlement with Kaepernick earlier this year.

Denver has been unable to find a good QB in the post-Peyton Manning era so taking a look at Kaepernick makes sense. The 32-year-old QB threw 16 touchdown passes and four interceptions in 12 games in 2016, the last year he played in the NFL. He has remained a free agent since 2017.
