John Cena made a surprise return at Money In The Bank and WWE fans lost it

What fans are saying about John Cena’s surprise return to WWE on Sunday night.

It’s been more than a year since WWE legend John Cena appeared during a WWE event, but on Sunday night at Money In The Bank in Fort Worth, Cena shocked a raucous crowd by interrupting a Roman Reigns promo.

We last saw Cena at WrestleMania 36 in an experimental “Firefly Fun House” match with Bray Wyatt in April of 2020. He’s since been extremely busy with his acting career, and is starring in three major 2021 releases, including F9 and The Suicide Squad.

Cena has always been a polarizing figure in WWE,  but for what might be the first time, it seemed like everyone was happy to see him walk down a WWE ramp.

After the show ended, Cena promised fans in the arena that his return isn’t a one-off. WWE fans are used to megastars of older eras returning for spot appearances and short runs leading into big events like SummerSlam or WrestleMania – but according to Cena, his appearance was not a “one night only.” WWE has announced that he will return Monday night on Raw.

Here’s what fans were saying about Cena’s return:

WWE stars, fans react to the baffling John Cena-Bray Wyatt Firefly Fun House match

This was beyond absurd.

WWE fans didn’t know what to expect from the “Firefly Fun House” match between John Cena and Bray Wyatt, but the iconic “Boneyard match” from Night 1 of WrestleMania 36 set the bar for fantasy match stipulations extremely high. Somehow, in it’s own extremely strange way, the Fun House match delivered something equally eyebrow raising.

The Firefly Fun House match wasn’t really a match, and more a fever dream exploration of WWE history through the lens of the ongoing Wyatt-Cena feud. The segment gave us puppet Vince McMahon, the return of “The Prototype” and the giant SmackDown fist, John Cena doing a hundred bicep curls, Bray Wyatt doing a Hulk Hogan impression, Word Life and the Dr. of Thuganomics, nWo John Cena and so much more. It was undoubtedly the weirdest thing in WrestleMania history, and fans and WWE stars alike were blown away.
