Where LSU stands in ESPN’s updated 2024 recruiting rankings

LSU added three players to its now 18-man recruiting class in the month of June.

The month of June treated the Tigers well on the recruiting trail.

LSU added a pair of blue-chip players in the secondary to the 2024 class in four-star cornerback [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] and safety [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag]. Coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] also secured the commitment of three-star receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag], while receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] shut down his recruitment.

It wasn’t all good news this month as four-star tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag] decommitted, but LSU remains in a good spot for this cycle as we get into the heat of the summer.

ESPN recently released its updated recruiting rankings for 2024, and LSU’s class sits at No. 7.

ESPN 300 commits: 7 | Previous ranking: 5

SEC rank: 3 of 14
Top offensive commit: TE Trey’Dez Green (No. 105)
Top defensive commit: S Maurice Williams (No. 129)

Brian Kelly’s first full class at the helm was among the best in the country. He has the Tigers recruiting at a high level again for 2024, securing his QB last fall in Colin Hurley, a passer with an arm that can create on the move and make off-platform throws. After signing three four-stars out of Texas, they continue to pull defensive talent out of the Lone Star State, now in ESPN 300 defender Maurice Williams. Several key pickups are from important in-state recruiting pool. TE Trey’Dez Green is a big receiving target with elite length, fluidity and a frame to further develop as a red zone threat. LB Kolaj Cobbins and safety Joel Rogers are among the top five prospects in Louisiana.

Talent acquisition — both through the transfer portal and high school recruiting — has been a strength since Kelly arrived in Baton Rouge. He’ll hope to close things out strong as LSU still has several top uncommitted options on the table.

LSU commit Joseph Stone says his recruitment is shut down

Receiver Joseph Stone was set to take an official visit to Texas this weekend, but now that trip is off.

Four-star 2024 Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes receiver [autotag]Joseph Stone[/autotag] has been committed to LSU since last July, but that pledge has felt a bit tenuous in recent months.

Stone has taken recent trips to Louisville and UCF with positive things to say about both, and he was set to officially visit Texas, as well, this weekend.

Now, that trip is off. According to On3’s Billy Embody, Stone has officially shut down his recruitment and will instead take an official visit to Baton Rouge this weekend.

It’s been a good week on the recruiting trail for coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the staff. After losing tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag], LSU added three new commitments in defensive backs [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] and [autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag] as well as receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag].

Now, the Tigers will also keep Stone — the No. 279 prospect in the 2024 class, per 247Sports — on board. LSU already has 17 commitments, but with a few big-time targets still available, the Tigers will enter the summer with a lot of momentum as they look to add to a class that already ranks in the top five.

Recently offered 3-star receiver commits to LSU

LSU has now landed eight of the top 16 players in the state of Louisiana for the 2024 class.

LSU added its 17th commitment in the 2024 class on Wednesday when recently offered Houma (La.) Terrebonne receiver [autotag]Kylan Billiot[/autotag] announced his commitment to the Tigers.

The three-star prospect chose LSU over an offer list that mostly includes Group of Five programs like Memphis, Louisiana and Arkansas State. His only listed Power Five offer came from Georgia Tech.

However, the 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect is seeing his stock rise. He impressed LSU’s coaching staff while attending the 7-on-7 camp this weekend, and he swiftly earned an offer.

Billiot — the No. 533 overall prospect nationally and No. 13 player in Louisiana — wasted little time committing to the in-state Tigers.

With Billiot’s commitment, LSU’s 2024 class now ranks fifth nationally according to 247Sports and ninth according to On3. LSU has now landed eight of the top 16 players in the state of Louisiana with the commitments of Billiot and [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] this week.

Where major recruiting services rank LSU after addition of Joel Rogers

Here’s where LSU’s 16-man class ranks after adding the West Feliciana safety.

The Tigers landed their 16th commitment in the 2024 recruiting class on Monday when 2024 Saint Francisville West Feliciana safety [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] announced his commitment to LSU.

According to 247Sports, the 6-foot, 180-pound Rogers is the No. 304 prospect in the nation and the No. 8 player in the state of Louisiana. The Tigers continue to do a good job of landing in-state talent under [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag], and Rogers is the latest pickup.

It hasn’t been all good news this week for LSU as it suffered its first decommitment of the 2024 cycle in tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag]. Still, LSU is shaping up to land a very strong class once again.

Here’s where it sits in the latest recruiting rankings from major services.

4-star safety Joel Rogers commits to LSU

LSU picked up another in-state blue-chip recruit on Monday evening

LSU picked up its 16th commitment of the 2024 cycle on Monday night.

[autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag], a safety from West Feliciana, put on the LSU hat, picking the Tigers over TCU, Texas, Tennessee and Alabama.

This was no surprise. Both the 247Sports Crystal Ball and the On3 Prediction Machine had LSU as the heavy favorite.

According to On3, Rogers is a consensus four-star. On3 has Rogers as the fourth-best Louisiana recruit of the cycle, making this a key in-state pickup for [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] as the staff continues to build a strong homegrown class.

Rogers is the third safety of LSU’s 2024 class, joining [autotag]Ju’Juan Johnson[/autotag] and [autotag]Dashawn McBryde[/autotag], both in-state players.

With two corners on board too, Rogers is the fifth defensive back.

LSU lacks depth at the safety position on the current roster, so the influx of talent set to arrive next year will be much needed.

The Tigers now have commitments from five of the top 10 2024 Louisiana recruits and remain in a good spot with several more.

LSU in the driver’s seat for blue-chip DB as decision day approaches

The Tigers could land a pair of four-star defensive backs this week.

It could be a very good week for LSU’s defensive back class.

One four-star safety is set to commit on Monday in [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag], and the Tigers seem to be in a very good spot to land him. But he’s not the only blue-chip prospect at the position they’re trending for.

[autotag]Ondre Evans[/autotag], a four-star prospect from Nashville, Tennessee, recently listed LSU among his top five, and he’s set to announce his commitment on Friday.

The list of finalists he released last week was full of big-time programs and also included Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and NC State. Still, LSU is in a great position to land him and is the 96.4% favorite according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

LSU’s 2024 class currently sits at 15 commitments after tight end [autotag]Tayvion Galloway[/autotag] became the first player in the class to back off his pledge on Sunday, but with two four-star defensive backs set to potentially join the class, the Tigers remain in good shape.

Louisiana safety target set to commit on Monday

LSU is a heavy favorite to land Joel Rogers.

LSU could add to its 2024 recruiting class in the coming days.

On Thursday, St. Francisville (Louisiana) West Feliciana safety [autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] told On3’s Sam Spiegelman that he plans to announce his commitment decision on Monday. With that news, Rogers also tweaked his official visit schedule.

Rogers, who was initially scheduled to take official visits to LSU last weekend, Alabama this coming weekend and TCU the following weekend, instead used an unofficial visit to head to Baton Rouge.

He has canceled the latter two trips and will take an official visit to LSU closer to the early signing period in December, On3 reports.

This would seem to signal that LSU is in a good spot for Rogers. Indeed, it is a 99.3% favorite to land him according to On3’s recruiting prediction machine.

Rogers is the No. 8 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 350 player nationally, per On3.

LSU offers rising star in-state safety

Brian Kelly and his staff recently offered one of the biggest risers in On3’s latest On300.

[autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and his staff recently offered one of the biggest risers in On3’s latest On300. Kelly is continuing to recruit the Boot at a very high level.

[autotag]Joel Rogers[/autotag] is a four-star, 6-foot-1, 185-pound safety from Saint Francisville, Louisiana, where he plays for West Feliciana High School.

The Saints finished the season 13-1 with a loss to Lutcher in the third round of the 4A playoffs.

There are no Crystal Ball projections at this time but LSU is a 78% favorite per On3.

Film Analysis: Rogers is a speedster that does a great job sitting in the right spot in zone coverage and jumping routes for interceptions.
