BKFC 18 video: Hector Lombard swings on Lorenzo Hunt after defeating Joe Riggs for cruiserweight title

Hector Lombard won BKFC gold in the co-main event on Saturday evening, but that was just the beginning of the drama.

The co-main event of BKFC 18 saw two veterans of MMA mix it up in what proved to be a wild contest filled with controversy during and after the fight.

Former Bellator champion and UFC competitor [autotag]Hector Lombard[/autotag] took on [autotag]Joe Riggs[/autotag] in the third of four title fights on Saturday night.

The fight itself ended in a controversial fashion as Lombard (3-0 BKFC) held on to Riggs’ (2-1-1 BKFC) shorts while landing a clean punch to the eye. As a result, Riggs could not continue because he said he could only see out of one eye, crowning Lombard the cruiserweight champion by doctor’s stoppage.

After the fight, the drama continued.

Just as Lombard was beginning his post-fight interview, fellow BKFC competitor Lorenzo Hunt entered the ring and approached Lombard. The new champion did not appreciate his space being invaded and threw two hard punches at Hunt.

After the scuffle, there would be no post-fight interview from Lombard and the ring was eventually cleared.

Up-to-the-minute results of BKFC 18 include:

    • Hector Lombard def. Joe Riggs via TKO (doctor stoppage) – Round 4, 1:07 *for cruiserweight title

If you’re still killing time in quarantine, UFC Fight Pass has 19 minutes of your day covered.

If you’re still killing time in quarantine, UFC Fight Pass has 19 minutes of your day covered.

The UFC’s online streaming platform today debuted two new UFC Fight Pass Originals series: “Fightlore,” which promises to chronicle “the fables, legends, and untold stories from combat sports and martial arts,” as well as “Year of the Fighter,” which “recounts the seminal 12-month span for UFC’s greatest athletes.”

The latter debuts with a 12-month chronicling of current UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in his run from octagon newcomer to UFC titleholder. But it’s the former you’re going to want to tune into today.

Check out the description of the first episode of “Fightlore,” courtesy of UFC Fight Pass:

Fightlore: ER Brawl – Nick Diaz vs. Joe Riggs

Security to the ER! Hear the real story of how Nick Diaz and Joe Riggs continues their fight with another round inside a hospital.

Newcomers to the sport will undoubtedly enjoy the retelling of one of the craziest stories in MMA history, the infamous 2006 hospital brawl between [autotag]Nick Diaz[/autotag] and [autotag]Joe Riggs[/autotag], which followed their three-round clash at UFC 57. However, even hardcores will find at least one new detail of the story from Riggs – and not a particularly flattering one, either.

Additional UFC Fight Pass Originals set to debut next week include “Knockouts Only,” “UFC Watch Party” and “UFC Fight Physics.”

“UFC Chronicles” debuts later this year.

According to UFC officials, new episodes of all the UFC Fight Pass Originals series “will premier strategically leading up to live events on UFC Fight Pass.”

Hector Lombard gets new BKFC 10 opponent after Joe Riggs drops out

The BKFC 10 main event between Hector Lombard and Joe Riggs has been cancelled.

[autotag]Hector Lombard[/autotag] has a new opponent for the BKFC 10 main event after [autotag]Joe Riggs[/autotag] had to drop out.

In a Monday press release, the promotion announced a new Feb. 15 main event between Lombard, the former Bellator middleweight champion, and fellow Bellator veteran [autotag]David Mundell[/autotag].

No reason for Riggs’ withdrawal or removal from the card was revealed. In fact, the press release didn’t mention Riggs at all.

Lombard has not competed in a fight since being released from the UFC in late 2018, though he has stayed active on the national grappling circuit. BKFC 10 will be Lombard’s promotional debut.

Lombard partook in Quintet Ultra in December. The American Top Team member represented Team PRIDE and went 1-0-1 at the event. In his first match of the evening, Lombard submitted Sean O’Malley, before going to a draw with Anthony Johnson in his second.

As for Mundell, the 28-year-old Floridian has competed twice under the BKFC banner. Mundell is undefeated in bare-knuckle competition with TKO victories over Ronnie Forney and Drew Lipton.

BKFC 10 takes place at Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and streams on FITE TV.

Hector Lombard vs. Joe Riggs to headline BKFC 10 in February

Bare Knuckle FC has booked its latest main event to feature a former notable MMA name making his debut.

Bare Knuckle FC has booked its latest main event to feature a former notable MMA name making his debut.

[autotag]Hector Lombard[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Joe Riggs[/autotag] is set to headline BKFC 10 in Miami, the promotion announced Monday on social media. BKFC 10 will take place at a yet-to-be-announced venue in Miami and stream on pay-per-view.

The booking marks the fourth straight BKFC event which has been headlined by UFC veterans. The match will mark Lombard’s promotional debut, whereas Riggs competed under its banner three times before.

Lombard, a former Bellator middleweight champion, has not competed in a fight since being released from the UFC in late 2018, though he has stayed active on the national grappling circuit.

Lombard partook in last Thursday’s Quintet Ultra in Las Vegas, representing Team PRIDE. Lombard went 1-0-1 at the event, submitting Sean O’Malley before drawing with Anthony Johnson.

In 2016, Riggs was released from his second stint with the UFC. Since then, “Diesel” has stayed active, competing on the regional MMA, bare knuckle boxing, and grappling circuits.

BKFC finished out its 2019 schedule in mid-November. BKFC 9 was headlined by Artem Lobov and Jason Knight. The main event was a rematch of their April fight. Knight evened up the series at one apiece, defeating Lobov by fifth-round corner stoppage.
