3 Studs and 2 duds from Jets’ crushing 23-20 loss to Chiefs in Week 4

The Jets played their tails off and came oh-so-close to pulling off the major upset of the Kansas City Chiefs. Instead, the Jets are now 1-3 following a 23-20 loss in Week 4. As always, some players played well and others, not so much. Here’s our look at who stepped up and who stepped aside for the Jets in primetime against the Chiefs.

Instant analysis of Jets vs. Chiefs: Late turnover proves costly as Jets fall short 23-20

Quick hits on a heartbreaking loss for the Jets against the champs.

The Jets were never expected to be even close to the Kansas City Chiefs. Yet, quarterback Zach Wilson played maybe the best game of his career to keep the Jets hanging around. But a costly turnover — and a ticky-tack holding penalty — doomed the Jets and dropped the team to 1-3 after a crushing 23-20 defeat to the defending champs on Sunday Night Football in Week 4. Here’s our quick notes from the game.

Zach Wilson with a laser to Allen Lazard for the touchdown, runs in game-tying two-point conversion

Zach Wilson ties the ballgame.

No one knows where this version of Zach Wilson came from, but Jets fans sure are loving it. Wilson has become a man on a mission against the Chiefs, no more evident than on his laser of a touchdown pass to Allen Lazard.

To top it off, Wilson found a way to scramble and run into the end zone himself for the ensuing two-point conversion and tie the ballgame at 20-20. The Jets have all the momentum. Can they pull this off?

Zach Wilson could be playing for his job Sunday night

Sunday night could be do-or-die for Zach Wilson.

The fanbase has long grown frustrated with quarterback Zach Wilson, pretty much to the point of no return. But for a while, it had seemed like the coaching staff was hanging on as long as they could, hoping out as much hope as possible he could turn things around. That time may finally be coming to an end.

In a recent article from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Jets may finally be reaching the end of the rope with Wilson and he may be playing for his job Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here’s a snippet of what Russini wrote about the situation:

The Jets signed veteran QB Trevor Siemian to their practice squad this past week, but he won’t be active for Sunday night’s home game against the Chiefs. However, unless Wilson clicks with the offense tonight and throws for 300 yards, it’s apparent his time as the starter could be closing out. Multiple Jets sources shared their general trepidation this past week, with one texting, “Something needs to change, or it’s going to cost jobs.”

The Jets just signed Siemian, so this week was too soon to call him up — the Jets only elevated OL Chris Glaser from the practice squad this week. But with another week of practice, Siemian could well be in position to take over for Week 5 against the Broncos if the Jets decide to make the change.

It’s also possible the Jets use Siemian as a stop-gap between now and the Week 7 bye and then go out and acquire a veteran quarterback for the rest of the season if they feel that quarterback can right the ship and get the Jets back into playoff contention.

The writing has been on the wall for quite some time. For Zach Wilson, it’s do-or-die time. We could (finally) be seeing the end of the road for Wilson as the starting quarterback of the New York Jets. The Jets may finally be starting to turn the page.

The Jets are getting ready for what could be a crazy circus on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs thanks to a certain someone likely being in attendance, and we’re not talking about the possible showing of Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets enter at 1-2 and are hoping to right the ship with their bye week just a few weeks away. Here, we’ll take a quick recap of the 53-man roster, the Jets’ practice squad and their injured reserve list heading into Week 4.

New York by the Numbers: 4 standout stats from the Jets’ Week 8 loss to Chiefs

Jets Wire takes a look at some standout stats from the Jets’ 35-9 Week 8 loss vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sunday featured more of the same for the Jets, who dropped to 0-8 on the season following a 35-9 loss at the hands of the defending Super Bowl champions.

While the Jets’ defense unsurprisingly failed to contain Patrick Mahomes, their kicker kept the team in the game. Going into halftime, the Jets had a chance to be down just 21-12, but Sergio Castillo had his fourth field goal attempt of the half blocked. The Jets offense wouldn’t get close to midfield again as the Chiefs dominated the final 30 minutes, with Mahomes exiting the game early.

Under Dowell Loggains’ direction, the Jets offense stalled out in the second half for the second straight week. The Jets now have just 67 yards in the second half over their past two games.

Let’s take a look at some more numbers that stood out in the latest loss.

Chris Herndon, Ashtyn Davis among Jets’ Studs & Duds in Week 8 loss to Chiefs

Jets Wire takes a look at the Jets studs and duds from the team’s 35-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

It comes as no surprise that the Jets’ 35-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday was filled with poor performers.

Entering Sunday’s contest as 19.5-point underdogs, the Jets played over their heads, keeping themselves in the game right before halftime. New York had a chance to be down just 21-12 heading into the break, but had a field goal blocked. Like clockwork, the team’s offense stalled in the second half and allowed Patrick Mahomes, who threw five touchdowns, to go to work.

Let’s take a closer look at Gang Green’s best and worst from their Week 8 loss to the Chiefs.
