The New York Jets (1-0) and the Carolina Panthers (0-1) meet in Week 2 of the NFL preseason at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (NFL+). The Jets scratched out a 20-17 home win over the Washington Commanders in the preseason opener last Saturday, but a majority of the scoring came from reserves. The biggest highlight might have been buzzer-beating 56-yard field goal from PK Greg Zuerlein, as he looks to hold off PK Austin Siebert for the starting job.

The Panthers rested QB Bryce Young, while veteran backup QB Andy Dalton was sidelined due to injury. That meant QBs Jack Plummer and Jake Luton faced the New England Patriots, and it went as well as expected. Carolina lost 17-3, and managed just 7 1st downs, 62 rushing yards and 89 passing yards while being sacked 5 times.

Carolina also had undisciplined play, committing 9 penalties, and it never got into the red zone.

The JETS (-110) are the play on the road as the slight underdog, and frankly, it’s shocking to see that they’re not favored.

In addition, the Panthers (-110) were a train wreck in New England in the 1st game, and QB wasn’t the only issue. But, it was a major one. Carolina has several injuries at key positions already, and we’re likely to see a steady diet of reserves who may or may not make the team, as coach Dave Canales plays it safe and rests what little valuable players he has.

Against the spread

Playing Jets +1.5 (-120) makes little to no sense, unless you’re dead-set on the Panthers -1.5 (+100) winning this game, but only by a single point, or you envision the rare preseason tie.

If you like New York, just play it straight up for a much better value.

AVOID.

Over/Under

UNDER 31.5 (-110) is the way to go in this Week 2 preseason battle.

The Jets actually cashed the Over against Washington last week, totaling a combined 37 points with a line of 34.5. However, Washington contributed early with a considerable amount of starters making cameos, while some talented rookies also played. The Jets are unlikely to see the Panthers line up with anywhere near the same talent.

While this is a very, very low total, the lean is Under, although you shouldn’t get carried away betting Under here.

The Jets traded QB Sam Darnold to the Panthers and then selected QB Zach Wilson out of BYU with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. As luck has it, these two players and teams face each other in Week 1.

Wilson looked very good in the preseason, but he’ll be without one of his top receivers with WR Jamison Crowder on the COVID-19 list and ruled out by head coach Robert Saleh.

Darnold looks to exact a little revenge on the team which gave up on him, and show the Jets what they could’ve been if they had NFL-caliber receivers and a top-notch running back. That’s what he has in Charlotte with the Panthers.

The new-look Panthers (-210) will cost you more than two times your potential return against the Jets. Carolina enters the game healthier than its counterparts, but it’s still a risky play at this price.

The Panthers lost their last two regular-season openers, both at home, and they failed to cover in each while the Over connected.

While the Jets might have a lot of the focus on them in this matchup because of their shiny new quarterback, this is a redemption story and the PANTHERS -4.5 (-107) are beginning a new era.

Darnold looks to keep his old organization down, and he’ll do just that with former Jets WR Robby Anderson, WR DJ Moore and RB Christian McCaffrey helping him out.

The Jets went 1-4 ATS in their last five regular-season openers, and they’re 1-8 ATS in their last nine September games.

Over/Under

The OVER 45.5 (-105) is worth a small-unit play. Darnold and Wilson will be locked in a battle here, and it has the chance to be a very exciting game.

The Over cashed in each of the last two regular-season openers for the Panthers, and we should see a third straight with a game in the upper 40s. Be patient, though, as things could get off to a slow start before the quarterbacks get their sea legs.

The Panthers topped the Jets 35-27 in Week 12 of the 2017 regular season at Met Life Stadium, covering a 5.5-point number as the Over (39.5) easily connected.
