Former Chargers edge defender Jessie Lemonier has passed away at the age of 25.

Former Chargers edge defender Jessie Lemonier has passed away at the age of 25. The cause of death has not been reported at this time.

Lemonier started his career in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Liberty University, signing with the Chargers.

Lemonier appeared in six games that year. Then, competing for one of the last spots on the roster, he flashed during the preseason of 2021, finishing with five quarterback pressures and two sacks. But he ended up being waived.

Lemonier was quickly picked up by the Lions and appeared on their practice squad. He was called up to the active roster, in which he recorded 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks and a tackle for loss in seven games.

Detroit re-signed him in April of 2022, but he was waived a month later.

Lemonier went on to play for the Cardinals, the XFL’s Arlington Renegades, and the USFL’s Houston Gamblers and Birmingham Stallions.

Lemonier spent time with the Cardinals last offseason.

Jessie Lemonier, who spent part of last offseason with the Arizona Cardinals, is dead. He was 25 years old.

Lemonier entered the league in 2020 as an undrafted rookie with the Los Angeles Chargers. He appeared in six games as a rookie and had two tackles and two quarterback hits.

In 2021, he appeared in seven games for the Detroit Lions, collecting 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks and three quarterback hits.

He was with the Cardinals in the offseason but did not make the team.

The Lions released this statement about Lemonier:

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of former Detroit Lion Jessie Lemonier. Jessie was a model teammate and wonderful young man who is gone far too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Cardinals cut LB Jessie Lemonier

Lemonier had a second-half sack in the preseason opener but was at the back of the depth chart at outside linebacker.

The Arizona Cardinals announced a roster move Wednesday that seems to signal another signing. The team released linebacker Jessie Lemonier, freeing up a roster spot.

Lemonier was at the back of the depth chart at outside linebacker.

He did play well, picking up a second-half sack in the Cardinals’ 36-23 preseason win over the Cincinnati Bengals Friday night.

Five outside linebackers appear to be locks for the roster with Markus Golden, Devon Kennard, Dennis Gardeck and third-round rookies Cameron Thomas and Myjai Sanders. If they are going to keep six at the position, it now becomes a competition between Victor Dimukeje and seventh-round rookie Jesse Luketa.

The Cardinals now have a roster vacancy. They could add a tight end, where they have a few players out. They brought in two tight ends earlier in the week for a tryout.

Cardinals claim Jessie Lemonier off waivers from Lions

The Cardinals add a young edge defender to compete in an uncertain position group.

The Arizona Cardinals added a linebacker to their roster on Tuesday. They announced they were awarded linebacker Jessie Lemonier on a waiver claim.

Lemonier was released by the Detroit Lions.

He has been in the league since 2020. He entered the league as an undrafted rookie with the Los Angeles Chargers. He played in six games as a rookie and had two tackles.

He signed with the Lions to their practice squad last September and signed to the active roster in October. He played in seven games and started twice. he had 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks.

The 6-3, 240-pounder played at Liberty collegiately. In two seasons at Liberty, Lemonier had 135 tackles (74 solo), 20.5 sacks, 29 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

The Cardinals released undrafted rookie defensive lineman LaRon Stokes to make room for Lemonier.

He will likely play off the edge and compete for a roster spot this offseason.

Another player the Lions waived has been claimed by a different team

Jessie Lemonier became the third played waived by the Detroit Lions in the last week to get claimed by another NFL team

It’s not something the Detroit Lions are accustomed to, but it might be a growing trend. For the third time in a week, a player placed on waivers by the Lions has been claimed by another NFL team.

Last week it was TE Matt Sokol and OLB Rashod Berry who got snatched up by other teams after being cut by the Lions. Sokol joined the New England Patriots, while Berry was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars. This week it’s OLB Jessie Lemonier.

The Lions waived Lemonier on Monday in order to sign LB Natrez Patrick. On Tuesday, Lemonier was claimed by the Arizona Cardinals, per the NFL’s transaction wire.

It makes sense for the Cardinals to claim Lemonier, who most notably bagged a sack of Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers in Week 18. The defensive scheme change impacted Lemonier in Detroit more than any lack of ability, and he’ll be able to better show what he can do in the Cardinals’ 3-4 front.

Lions sign LB Natrez Partick after tryout, waive Jessie Lemonier

Patrick played two seasons with the Rams and is an off-ball LB

One of the players who was in Detroit for the rookie minicamp on a tryout basis succeeded in his quest to make the Lions. Linebacker Natrez Patrick was signed by the Lions after getting a look over the weekend.

Patrick is not a rookie. He spent most of the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, playing almost exclusively on special teams in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. Patrick played collegiately at Georgia and joined the Rams as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 draft.

He was waived by the Rams during the postseason and claimed by the Denver Broncos, but that franchise quickly waived Patrick with injury designation. He did not play in 2021.

To make room for Patrick, the Lions waived EDGE Jessie Lemonier. He played in seven games for the Lions in 2021 and registered 1.5 sacks and 15 total tackles. Patrick is an off-ball LB with more bulk (he’s a muscular 6-2 and 244 pounds), while Lemonier was a pass-rushing outside backer.

Lions inactive player list for Week 5: Hockenson, Swift among the actives

Lions inactive player list for Week 5: T.J. Hockenson and D’Andre Swift among the actives

After a scary week where several prominent starters were either limited in practice or missing altogether, the Detroit Lions wound up getting fortunate on the health front. That luck is reflected in the team’s inactive player list for the Week 5 meeting with the Minnesota Vikings.

All the players who were questionable with injury are active for the game. That includes Pro Bowl TE T.J. Hockenson and both RBs, D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams.

The Lions inactive player list:

DL Eric Banks

DE Jashon Cornell

RB Jermar Jefferson

WR Tom Kennedy

OLB Jesse Lemonier

CB Daryl Worley

During the week, coach Dan Campbell offered an assessment that Jefferson could get on the field with improved special teams play in practice, but that apparently did not happen fast enough. It’s somewhat surprising to see Worley inactive with the rash of injuries and inexperience in the defensive backfield.

Lions place Frank Ragnow on I.R. in flurry of roster moves

Ragnow will miss at least 3 weeks with his toe injury

The Detroit Lions kept the NFL’s transaction wire busy on Wednesday morning with a series of roster moves. The most significant of the moves is placing Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow on injured reserve with a toe injury suffered in the Week 4 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Ragnow will miss at least the next three weeks. He joins standout left tackle Taylor Decker on I.R., depriving the Lions of their top two offensive linemen.

In other active 53-man roster news, the Lions activated kicker Austin Seibert from the reserve/COVID-19 list and promoted OLB Jessie Lemonier from the practice squad. Lemonier takes the place of Romeo Okwara, who was placed on I.R. with a torn Achilles earlier this week.

Seibert missed the last two weeks after testing positive for COVID-19. Ryan Santoso filled in quite capably as a practice squad promotion for Weeks 3-4.

Detroit also tinkered with the practice squad, and yes it once again involves WR Javon McKinley. His on-again/off-again status is now off, with the Lions releasing the undrafted rookie from Notre Dame for the fourth time in five weeks. Detroit signed veteran OL Parker Ehinger and brought back OLB Rashod Berry to the practice squad.

Chargers release EDGE Jessie Lemonier

The Los Angeles Chargers released one of the preseason standouts.

As the Chargers are hard at work to cut their roster from 80 players to 53 by Tuesday, Aug. 31 at 1 pm PT, some will be released prior to the deadline, and edge defender Jessie Lemonier is one of them.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Lemonier has been released by Los Angeles.

After signing as an undrafted free agent out of Liberty, Lemonier appeared in six games in 2020. Competing for one of the last spots, he flashed during the preseason, finishing with five quarterback pressures and two sacks.

Now a free agent, Lemonier is a practice squad candidate, but it wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t clear the waiver wire based on his performances that he strung together this summer.
