The 2024 NBA Draft Combine has concluded, and as the dust settles in Chicago, we review the most significant winners and losers from this year’s pre-draft event. Despite being considered one of the weakest drafts in recent memory, the combine still plays a crucial role. It helps fringe lottery picks, determines if a player is a late first-rounder or early second-rounder, and boosts the chances of players who might have gone undrafted. With the draft just over a month away, here’s a breakdown of the standout moments and performances from this year’s combine.

West Virginia lands Syracuse big man transfer Jesse Edwards

West Virginia landed one of the best players in the transfer portal on Sunday.

West Virginia men’s basketball picked up one of the best players in the transfer portal on Sunday when Syracuse transfer center Jesse Edwards announced his decision to commit to the Mountaineers.

Edwards was widely considered to be one of the best basketball players available in the transfer portal this offseason including being ranked as ESPN’s No. 3 overall player.

The native of Amsterdam spent the last four years with the Orange, playing 95 games including making 56 starts over the past two seasons. This year, he experienced a breakout season, totaling 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

Edwards shot 59.2% from the field while also making 72.9% of his shots from the foul line, a career-high for the 6-foot-11 center. He also recorded 14 double-doubles this year including a 27-point, 20-rebound performance against Wake Forest. He earned All-ACC honors for his efforts this season.

This past season, the Mountaineers went 19-15 including 7-11 in Big 12 play. They would be a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament, losing their first-round matchup to the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins.

With the Mountaineers, Edwards will replace center Tre Mitchell who was one of the program’s leading scorers this past season. In 34 games played and 32 starts, Mitchell averaged 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest.

Report: Arkansas honing in on its next starting center

Syracuse center Jesse Edwards was barely in the portal before the calls came like crazy.

You know Arkansas has had trouble in the recent past on the interior with bigger, stronger players? Eric Musselman knows it, too.

So when the Razorbacks lost reserve center Makhel Mitchell to the transfer portal last week, the signal fires went up. Arkansas would need someone in the middle.

Makhi Mitchell has yet to announce whether he will spend a final season of college basketball with Arkansas or travel elsewhere. But even if he were to stay, Musselman’s reaching out to Syracuse center Jesse Edwards was huge, per a report, especially as the Hogs coach tends to focus a bit more on wings and guards.

Yes, the Mitchells and Jalen Graham, all play clearly in the frontcourt and arrived at Arkansas from the portal last year. But all three were slightly different players than Edwards, who, for two seasons with the Orange didn’t look like he was going to be much of a factor.

Then, this season, he averaged 14.5 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. With Jim Boeheim’s retirement and just one year of eligibility remaining, Edwards decided to seek greener pastures.

The fit with the Razorbacks seems to be clear. Arkansas needs a big body in the middle and could certainly use rebounding and rim protection. But the Hogs are hardly in that. Per the report, the Razorbacks are already competing with Georgia, LSU, Missouri and Vanderbilt from the SEC.

Final 2022-23 ACC men’s basketball leaders

Here’s the best the ACC had to offer this year.

Miami made it to the Final Four but will not be playing for the national championship. Therefore, the 2022-23 ACC men’s basketball season is over. It was another down year for the conference as it didn’t have many NCAA Tournament berths once again, and only the Hurricanes made it to the second weekend. Duke and Pittsburgh made it to the second round, and Virginia and NC State were bounced without a win.

With the conference in a slump, it’s fair to wonder when and if it will become must-watch basketball once again. Right now, it’s a power conference in name only. Could NIL and the transfer portal make this step back a permanent one? Hopefully not, but those very things have made college basketball more unpredictable than ever.

All of the above questions will be answered as time goes on. In the meantime, here are the leaders from the major statistical categories this season:

No one for Notre Dame is on this list.

The ACC Tournament takes place this week, so all eyes will be on Greensboro, North Carolina. Whatever the standing of your team, this is the perfect opportunity to see the best of what the conference has had to offer this season. Here are the players you particularly will want to see:

Only one week remains until the ACC Tournament. Now is the time for teams to build confidence and momentum going into the most important week of the season. If a team has one of these players, it most likely is in good shape:

With less than three weeks until Selection Sunday, the time for ACC teams to make a move is now. The opportunities to make an impact are getting fewer, and if a team hasn’t done that yet, it might already be too late. Nonetheless, here are the players most likely to help their teams make a last-minute impression on the selection committee:

We are halfway through February, and time is running out for ACC teams to make a move. If they haven’t made an impression on the selection committee yet, they better do it very soon, as in starting this coming week. Here are the players most likely to make strong cases for their teams:
