The San Antonio Spurs invest in their best

Just because the regular season ends, does not mean that the San Antonio Spurs’ players stop working.

Just because the regular season ends, does not mean that the San Antonio Spurs’ players stop working. In fact, it is a perfect time for players to start working on elements of their game they do not have time for during the league’s regular season. They can use that time to polish those new additions in time to try them out in the subsequent season ahead.

And that is exactly what Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan has been up to this offseason with San Antonio, honing his craft ahead of the Spurs’ looming 2024-25 campaign with some new vets on the roster to learn from.

Sochan recently took some time to talk about how he and his teammates are making use of this offseason to elevate their development as players with San Antonio. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what he had to say in a clip put together by the team on their official YouTube channel.

Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan’s end-of-season media availability

San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan recently did his end-of-season media availability.

This season started off very weirdly for Jeremy Sochan, as the San Antonio Spurs tried to run him at the point guard position. The forward had a bunch of trouble adjusting to the role, and the Spurs eventually moved him back into the frontcourt, leading to much more success both individually and as a team.

Sochan’s season was highlighted by a late-season performance against the Phoenix Suns. He led the Victor Wembanyama-less Spurs to a win over the Suns, finishing the night with 26 points and 18 rebounds. The 20-year-old forward still has a ton of room to grow, and now, he’ll be heading into his third NBA season next year.

At the conclusion of the season, Sochan conducted his end-of-season media availability, and the Spurs posted it on their YouTube channel.

This summer, Sochan will undoubtedly continue working on his outside shot, as that is the most glaring weakness in his game.

How serious are the injuries to San Antonio Spurs’ Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan?

Could they have something going on we ought to be worried about?

How serious are the injuries to San Antonio Spurs forwards Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, both of whom are sidelined for the rest of the 2023-24 regular season? If they were banged up enough to miss several weeks of the remaining schedule even in a season with nothing to prove, could they have something going on we ought to be worried about?

We would comment as a doctor ourselves, but our terminal degree is of the PhD variety. But the host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, caught up with Dr. Ryan McCorkle to talk it over.

The pair discussed Vassell’s and Sochan’s injuries, why it might have sidelined them for the remainder of the season, and the nature and potential duration of their absences.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about Sochan and Vassell’s health, and what it means for the Spurs’ future.

Reacting to Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan out for the remainder of the Spurs season

Will they cycle through some G League players to try to find cheap depth? Or go entirely in the other direction and shut down Wemby instead?

How will the San Antonio Spurs approach the end of their 2023-24 regular season schedule now that the team’s front office has elected to shut down forwards Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan for the rest of the campaign?

Will they cycle through some G League players to try to find some cheap depth? Or go entirely in the other direction and shut down star French rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama instead to keep him healthy for a season in which the Spurs have a roster capable of making some noise behind them? A possible alternative to split the difference with a reduction in Wemby’s minutes instead of icing him for 2023-24 could also be selected as a potential direction for the Spurs to take.

To talk it over, the host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, linked up with KENS 5’s Vinnie Vinzetta on a recent episode of his show.

Report: San Antonio to shut down Devin Vassell, Jeremey Sochan for season due to injury

The news likely signals an end to truly competitive basketball for San Antonio for the rest of 2023-24.

Fans of the San Antonio Spurs who were hoping to catch Devin Vassell or Jeremy Sochan live before the end of the NBA’s 2023-24 campaign will be disappointed to hear that both are being shut down for the rest of the season due to injuries.

According to recent reporting from the AP, Vassell and Sochan will spend the rest of this season healing up, with Vassell’s MRI today revealing that he has a stress reaction in the third metatarsal head of his right foot. Sochan reportedly is dealing with an ankle impingement in his left foot that will require arthroscopic surgery.

The news likely signals an end to truly competitive basketball for San Antonio for the rest of 2023-24, though expect plenty of interesting wrinkles from coach Gregg Popovich and Co. as they use what games remain to tinker.

The Spurs play the Denver Nuggets on the road this coming Tuesday night, and still have another tilt vs. Denver, the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the New Orleans Pelicans left on the schedule.

Spurs’ Jeremy Sochan could miss rest of season with ankle injury

San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan could miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The San Antonio Spurs picked up a big win over the New York Knicks on Friday night, but it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Jeremy Sochan injured his ankle in the first half of the game and didn’t play in the second half. Unfortunately, this injury could hold him out for the remainder of the season.

Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News dove into Sochan’s official injury designation, as he was listed as dealing with an “ankle impingement.” According to the NBA.com definition that Osborn dug up, an ankle impingement “is a condition that causes a painful limitation of ankle range of motion due to a soft-tissue or bony abnormality.”

This is the type of thing that could force Sochan to miss multiple weeks of action, and considering there are only eight games left in the Spurs’ season, he may not return to action this year.

That’s a huge blow to a Spurs team that has found a rhythm over the course of the past week.

Jeremy Sochan discusses Spurs mindset amid rough season

San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan recently spoke about the team’s mindset amid their rough season.

This year has been brutal for the San Antonio Spurs. The addition of Victor Wembanyama this past offseason marked a new era for the Spurs, but they are still an extremely young team. With guys like Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, and Jeremy Sochan leading the way, the core in San Antonio is all under 25 years old.

As is the case with most young teams, the Spurs have struggled. They have been the worst team in the Western Conference for the entire season. However, as the season has gone on, the Spurs have slowly improved their level of play. Marked by a recent Wembanyama-less win over the Phoenix Suns, they’ve continued to play as hard as they can.

“It’s been a tough season,” Sochan said. “No one likes this. We all came from the top colleges in the nation where we had been winning. So going into situations like this, it’s never going to be easy. We are not trying to be in this situation. But at the end of the day, we are hungry, we are working hard.”

The Spurs may be at the bottom of the conference, but they aren’t going to stop fighting.

Jeremy Sochan breaks down key to Spurs victory over Suns

After the San Antonio Spurs’ win over the Phoenix Suns, Jeremy Sochan spoke about the key to victory.

The San Antonio Spurs welcomed the Phoenix Suns to the Frost Bank Center for the second straight game on Monday night. After getting blown out by a score of 131-106 in the first contest, they bounced back in a big way despite the fact that rookie superstar Victor Wembanyama would be sidelined for Round 2 of the matchup.

However, in his absence, Jeremy Sochan stepped up in a big way. He finished the game with 26 points and 18 rebounds while also guarding Suns star Kevin Durant for most of the night – not an easy task for anyone, let alone a second-year forward. But Sochan was up to the challenge, and he delivered for the Spurs.

According to Sochan after the game, the key for the Spurs against the Suns on Monday night was upping their physicality. (H/t Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News)

“The main thing was to be physical,” Sochan said. “I felt like last game we didn’t start out physical. They brought the game to us. And I felt like today we changed that a little bit. We started out playing fast because of getting rebounds. That’s really important, just starting the game physical.”

Without Sochan, the Spurs wouldn’t have earned a win on Monday night.

Jeremy Sochan expresses confidence after game-winning shot vs. Suns

After hitting the game-winning three against the Phoenix Suns, San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan expressed his confidence levels.

On Monday night, the San Antonio Spurs took on the Phoenix Suns for the second game in a row. In the first game, the Suns took home a massive 131-106 win over the Spurs, blowing them out for almost the entire night. And so with Victor Wembanyama sidelined on Monday, it looked as though they could end up suffering the same fate.

Luckily for the Spurs, they had someone else step up in Wembanyama’s absence – Jeremy Sochan. Not only did he get the task of guarding Suns superstar Kevin Durant, but he also played a crucial role on the offensive side of the ball for the Spurs, where he doesn’t usually excel.

After missing his first six shots of the game, Sochan even hit what ended up being the game-winning three with just over 30 seconds left in the game. He spoke about it after the contest. (H/t Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News)

“I believe in myself,” Sochan said.

Sochan never lost confidence in himself.

“I was confident,” Sochan said. “Even at the start, I was asking for the ball, I had my hands up. I felt like the couple of the last games the ball hasn’t going in for me from the 3-point line. But no matter what, I believe in myself. I have been working so hard on my three. Even in season, I have been working on it, and I am going to shoot every shot like I can.”

Sochan finished the game with 26 points and 18 rebounds while shooting 10-of-19 from the floor and 1-of-7 from beyond the three-point arc.

Gregg Popovich credits Jeremy Sochan for defense on Kevin Durant

After the San Antonio Spurs’ win over the Phoenix Suns on Monday night, Gregg Popovich credit Jeremy Sochan for his defense on Kevin Durant.

The San Antonio Spurs got completely blown out on Saturday night by the Phoenix Suns. Led by their Big 3 of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal, the Suns stomped the Spurs by a score of 131-106. The game wasn’t even close. But in their rematch on Monday night, it was a totally different story.

San Antonio jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter, but by the third, the Suns were up by nine points. The Spurs got another solid lead of their own, but in the final minutes of the game, things were back and forth. In the end, it was San Antonio who ended the night on top, even though Victor Wembanyama didn’t play in the game.

Durant played well, but head coach Gregg Popovich still gave Jeremy Sochan a ton of credit for the defense he played on the Suns star. (H/t Jeremy Brener of Inside the Spurs)

“[Durant] is such a difficult matchup for everybody,” Popovich said postgame. “He’s one of the greatest ever, and Jeremy [Sochan] never stopped working his butt off. He’s very physical and did everything he could to guard a great player. He deserves a lot of credit. He also hit the boards for us. … He was very special.”

Durant ended the game with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists while shooting 12-of-17 from the field and 4-of-6 from distance.

As for Sochan, he put up 26 points and 18 rebounds while shooting 10-of-19 from the floor and 1-of-7 from deep.
