Veteran guard Jeremy Lin officially signs with Warriors G League affiliate

After a back and forth saga, veteran guard Jeremy Lin will officially join the Golden State Warriors G League affiliate in Santa Cruz.

During the extended offseason, the Golden State Warriors were reportedly expressing interest in veteran free agent guard Jeremy Lin. The rumored interest followed with reports indicating Lin was close to signing with the Warriors’ G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. However, nothing became official.

Fast forward to January, Lin has officially signed with Golden State’s G League affiliate. The 32-year-old guard will play for the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League edition of the Orlando Bubble.

The Bay Area native spent nine seasons with eight different NBA teams before playing the 2019-20 season in the Chinese Basketball Association with the Beijing Ducks. During his season in the CBA, Lin averaged 22.3 points on 49.1% shooting from the field with 5.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.8 steals per contest.

Lin began his NBA career out of Harvard with the Warriors as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2010. In 29 games with the Warriors, Lin averaged 2.6 points on 38.9% shooting from the field with 1.4 assists and 1.2 rebounds.

Following his stint with Golden State, Lin led the “Linsanity” movement with the New York Knicks during the 2011-12 season. Following New York and Golden State, Lin made stops in Houston, Los Angeles, Charlotte, Brooklyn, Atlanta and Toronto. Over his nine-year run in the NBA, Lin is averaging 11.6 points on 43.3% shooting from the field with 4.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 25.5 minutes per contest.

Along with the G League Ignite team, the February bubble at Disney World will feature NBA veterans like Lance Stephenson, Michael Beasley, Emeka Okafor, Terrence Jones and former Golden State guard Jacob Evans.

Report: Warriors ‘remain interested’ in signing Jeremy Lin to G League roster

After not receiving a letter of clearance to sign Jeremy Lin, the Warriors are reportedly remaining interested in adding the veteran guard to their G League roster.

On Friday, the Golden State Warriors were reportedly close to finalizing a deal with veteran guard Jeremy Lin. The plan was for Golden State to add Lin to their G League roster by waiving and resigning him. Yet, the plan never got to that stage.

The deadline to sign Lin passed after the Warriors didn’t get his letter of clearance from FIBA. However, the Warriors could still be targeting the 32-year-old guard.

According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Warriors “remain interested” in signing Lin to Golden State’s G League affiliate in Santa Cruz. The Warriors will “explore all avenues” with Lin’s potential signing, per Stein.

Via @TheSteinLine on Twitter:

If Lin lands in Santa Cruz, he could eventually compete for a spot in Golden State’s rotation behind Stephen Curry. Kent Bazemore, Brad Wanamaker and Mychal Mulder are currently slated to back up the two-time Most Valuable Player.

During the offseason, Lin was spotted working out with Curry, Eric Paschall, Marquese Chriss and other members of the Warriors.

After playing nine seasons in the NBA, Lin spent 2019-20 playing for the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association. Prior to his time in the CBA, Lin started his career in Golden State as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

As a rookie, Lin played in 29 games with the Warriors, averaging 2.6 points on 38.9% shooting from the field with 1.4 assists and 1.2 rebounds per contest. After his stint in the Bay Area, Lin played for the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Charlotte Hornets, Brooklyn Nets, Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors.

During his career, Lin is averaging 11.6 points on 43.3% shooting from the field with 4.3 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 25.5 minutes per game.

Jeremy Lin’s long, incredible basketball journey comes full circle back with the Warriors’ franchise

He’s back!!

Exciting news, NBA fans: Jeremy Lin is reportedly back in the league.

Per The Undefeated, the free agent guard will sign with the Golden State Warriors’ G League team this season. And there’s some neat symmetry to that: Lin was an undrafted free agent in 2010 who signed out of Harvard with … the Warriors!

From there, in case you need a reminder: he went from the Dubs to the Rockets to the Knicks, where LINSANITY happened (!!!!!!!!). Then he signed with the Rockets (again) as a free agent, was traded to the Lakers in 2014, signed with the Hornets, then signed with the Nets in 2016, was traded to the Hawks in 2018 and waived by them in 2019 before joining the Raptors for the rest of the season, when he won a ring!

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7HcLH6p3FE/

He’d become a free agent and eventually joined the CBA’s Beijing Ducks. And now, he’s returning to the NBA, with the franchise he started with. Even though it’s with the Warriors’ G League team, this is great news.

Report: Veteran guard Jeremy Lin finalizing deal with Golden State Warriors

After spending a season in the Chinese Basketball Association, Jeremy Lin is reportedly returning to the NBA with the Golden State Warriors.

After spending the 2019-20 campaign with the Beijing Ducks in the Chinese Basketball Association, Jeremy Lin is reportedly on his way back to the NBA with the Golden State Warriors.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the veteran guard is finalizing a deal with the Warriors, pending a letter of clearance from the Chinese Basketball Association.

In October, it was reported the Warriors had expressed interest in signing the 32-year-old point guard.

During Golden State’s extended offseason, Lin was spotted working out with Steph Curry, Eric Paschall and Marquese Chriss.

Lin will likely slide in with Brad Wanamaker and Kent Bazemore as an option for Steve Kerr off the bench behind Curry and Kelly Oubre Jr.

Photos: Steph Curry working out with Jeremy Lin, Eric Paschall, Marquese Chriss and others

At a recent offseason workout, Steph Curry was on the court with past and current Warriors including Jeremy Lin, Eric Paschall and others.

With the opening day of the 2020-21 NBA season set in place, players are putting the finishing touches on an unprecedented offseason.

After only playing in five games with the Golden State Warriors in the 2019-20 campaign due to injuries, Stephen Curry will be making his long-awaited return to Steve Kerr’s rotation when the new season starts in December.

Before he laces up in his No. 30 Warriors jersey at Chase Center in San Francisco, Curry was spotted on the court with current and former teammates at a preseason workout.

On Tuesday, Bay Area photographer Jordan Jimenez shared two sets of photos on Instagram featuring the NBA’s two-time Most Valuable Player alongside Eric Paschall, Marquese Chriss, Kevon Looney, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Alen Smailagic.

In the series of photos, Jimenez captured Curry shooting, Paschall driving for a layup, Chriss backing down Toscano-Anderson and more

Along with the members of the Warriors, free-agent wing Jeremy Lin was involved with the workout. In late October, the veteran point guard was linked to Golden State for a potential return to the Bay Area in 2020-21.

After missing Golden State’s voluntary offseason minicamp in late September, Curry will have the opportunity to join the rest of his teammates at Chase Center for the Warriors preseason training camp on Dec. 1.

Report: Warriors have expressed interest in free agent guard Jeremy Lin

According to a report from weixin.com, the Golden State Warriors have expressed “a clear interest” in free-agent guard Jeremy Lin.

Once Bob Myers and Steve Kerr make the No. 2 overall selection in the NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors will need to turn their attention to the free-agent market.

With expensive contracts linked to players like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins, the Warriors will need to get creative when it comes to adding players in free agency.

Despite three All-Stars and the former Rookie of the Year on the roster, Golden State will need to add pieces to catch the Los Angeles Lakers at the top of the Western Conference.

One option could be to bring a former member of the Warriors back to the Bay Area. According to a report from Weixin.com, translated by HoopsHype, the Warriors have expressed “clear interest” in veteran guard Jeremy Lin.

Via Weixin.com (H/T HoopsHype):

According to reliable sources, the Golden State Warriors have already expressed a clear interest in Jeremy Lin.

After recording minutes for the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors in 2018-19, Lin spent the 2019-20 season playing in the CBA for the Beijing Ducks. In 29 games, Lin averaged 22.3 points on 49.1% shooting from the field with 5.7 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.8 steals per contest.

Watch highlights from Lin’s season-high 36 points for the Ducks via YouTube:

In 2010, Lin started his NBA career with the Golden State Warriors. The point guard played 29 games for the Warriors during his rookie campaign, averaging 2.6 points on 38.9% shooting from the field with 1.4 assists and 1. 2 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game.

During his only season in the Bay Area, Lin shared the backcourt with Curry.

Behind Curry, Steve Kerr’s options currently consist of Jordan Poole, Ky Bowman and Damion Lee. While each showed glimpses during Curry’s absence last season, the Warriors need a consistent secondary ball-handler in their backcourt unit.

With both Curry and Thompson coming off significant injuries, Kerr will need a reliable guard to control his offense when the Splash Brothers are off the floor.

If Lin does land in Golden State, the 32-year-old guard could bring a level of experience the Golden State backcourt has missed since the departure of Shaun Livingston.

Draft Rewind: Warriors land undrafted prospect Jeremy Lin out of Harvard after 2010 NBA Draft

Before the Warriors are on the clock in 2020, Warriors Wire is rewinding through Golden State’s draft history to highlight memorable picks.

Before the Golden State Warriors fill out the card for the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, Warriors Wire is rewinding through Golden State’s draft history to highlight some of the most memorable picks — trades, surprises, busts, sleepers and everything in between.

Although the Warriors have three picks in the 2020 NBA Draft, there’s a chance Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will be monitoring who goes undrafted. The Warriors have been able to identify undrafted prospects like Damion Lee, Ky Bowman and Mychal Mulder, who’ve developed into contributors. With expensive contracts on the books in Golden State, the duo of Kerr and Myers will need to get creative when it comes to filling out the rest of their roster.

While the Warriors had a pick in the top-10 on draft night in 2010, Keith Smart and Larry Riley were able to bring in a local product as an undrafted free agent that later developed into a breakout phenom.

June 24, 2010

Despite a prospect pool that featured John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Gordon Hayward and Paul George, the Golden State Warriors selected Ekpe Udoh with the No. 6 overall selection in the 2010 NBA Draft.

With no second-round pick, the Warriors 2010 draft class consisted of only the Baylor product. However, Riley and Smart were active in the undrafted free agent market. Almost a month after the draft, the Warriors signed undrafted free agent Jeremy Lin out of Hardvard to a two-year contract.

During four seasons at Harvard, the point guard was a three-year starter, earning two nods to the All-Ivy League First-Team. Over his career with The Crimson, Lin averaged 12.9 points on 48.1% shooting from the field with 4.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists per contest.

The Palo Alto native signed with the Warriors following a solid performance in the Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks.

During his first season in the association, Lin bounced back and forth between Golden State’s rotation and the D League. As a rookie, Lin played in 29 games, averaging 2.6 points on 38.9% from the field with 1.4 assists and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Watch highlights from Lin’s rookie season with the Warriors via YouTube

After the NBA lockout in 2011, the Warriors waived Lin during preseason training camp. After his time with Golden State, Lin joined the Houston Rockets. However, he was waived again before seeing any game action with Houston.

Despite bouncing around, Lin broke out in his sophomore season as a member of the New York Knicks. In a February tilt against the New Jersey Nets, “Linsanity” was born. The former Warrior point guard exploded for 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field with seven assists, five rebounds and two steals.

Following his breakout game for New York, Lin scored 20 or more points in the next nine of 10 games. In 2011-12, Lin recorded seven double-doubles in 35 games. Lin’s impressive stint thrust the young guard into a starting role inside Madison Square Garden. After only averaging 9.8 minutes per game in Golden State, Lin started 25 games with New York, playing 26.9 minutes per contest.

After his breakout campaign with the Knicks, Lin signed a multi-year deal with the Houston Rockets to be their starting point guard. During his nine-year career in the NBA, Lin made stops in Los Angeles, Charlotte, Brooklyn, Atlanta and Toronto.

In 2019, Lin matched up with the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals as a member of the Toronto Raptors.

Other notable prospects from the 2010 draft class included Evan Turner, Derrick Favors, Eric Bledsoe, Avery Bradley, Patrick Patterson, Ed Davis, Al-Farouq Aminu and Lance Stephenson.

Former Nets guard Jeremy Lin criticizes Donald Trump over ‘Chinese Virus’

Former Brooklyn Nets guard Jeremy Lin spoke out against Donald Trump referring to the coronavirus as the “Chinese Virus.”

In one of Donald Trump’s recent tweets about the coronavirus outbreak, the U.S. president referred to the illness as the “Chinese Virus.”

He wrote:

The United States will be powerfully supporting those industries, like Airlines and others, that are particularly affected by the Chinese Virus. We will be stronger than ever before!

This caught the attention of former Brooklyn Nets guard Jeremy Lin, who responded to the remarks on Twitter:

I wish you would powerfully support the vulnerable people that will suffer due to our mismanagement of this virus, including those that will be affected by the racism you’re empowering.

Lin then added:

And I don’t wanna hear about no German measles/Spanish flu [because] everyday Asian-Americans including (people) I know are threatened and physically attacked. I don’t give a crap about the history of names (right now). What I do know is this subtle anti-Chinese message only empowers more hate towards Asians.

Lin also expressed how he’s “not good with the old school Asian model minority stigma where we won’t speak up or stand up for ourselves.”

“In times like now, we truly, truly need to stay united,” he added. “Let’s fight this virus TOGETHER!! Wash your hands, practice social distancing, take this seriously, stay safe.”
