Geno Smith was at the Oregon/Ohio State game for his cousin Jeremiah

Geno Smith was at the Oregon/Ohio State game for his cousin Jeremiah

The eyes of the college football world were centered on Eugene, Oregon for the matchup of the weekend: the No. 3 Oregon Ducks hosting the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes. The game not only lived up to the hype, it exceeded it.

The Ducks defended home turf and upset the Buckeyes 32-31 at Autzen Stadium. With such a premier matchup, it is only natural some big names would make their way to Eugene.

One such name was none other than Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback Eugene Cyril Smith III, otherwise known as Geno Smith. The Seahawks starter wasn’t just there to enjoy some quality college football. He was there to support his younger cousin Jeremiah Smith, who is a standout wide receiver at Ohio State.

The Buckeyes could not remain undefeated, but Jeremiah Smith put on yet another show for those in attendance. Smith led all Ohio State receivers with nine receptions for 100 yards and a touchdown. Overall on the year, the freshman has 32 receptions and 553 yards, with seven scores as well.

Football clearly runs deep in the Smith family, and it does not seem like an exaggeration to say we will see young Jeremiah play on Sundays in a few years.

How Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith is related to NFL QB Geno Smith

Football runs in Ohio State star Jeremiah Smith’s family.

Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is one of college football’s true rising stars.

Did you know great football runs in his family?

Jeremiah Smith’s cousin is Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who attended the recent Ohio State-Oregon game to support his relative.

The elder Smith has been in the NFL since 2013, and his cousin figures to join the NFL once he declares for the draft.

This is a really cool family connection, as Geno Smith has turned into one of the NFL’s better quarterbacks and Jeremiah Smith is on track to eventually be one of the NFL’s best wide receivers once he joins the league.

Maybe they’ll play together one day? Who knows!

Jeremiah Smith is already making history for Ohio State football

Jeremiah Smith has become the first true freshman in Ohio State football history to score a touchdown in his first five games.

Jeremiah Smith is well on his way to setting numerous records for the Ohio State Buckeyes. He’s already making history as a true freshman.

Smith was the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2024. Having offers from all top universities, he opted to join the Buckeyes, a national powerhouse that has become among the most desired programs for rising star receivers

Smith has fit right in, and he’s become the first Ohio State true freshman to score a touchdown in his first five games.

The numerous one-handed catches have been awing for fans, especially those able to see it live at Ohio Stadium. For Smith, he’s actually secured six touchdowns through five games, scoring twice against Akron.

Smith hasn’t necessarily erupted in terms of yardage though. He’s tallied over 100 receiving yards just once, going for 119 yards on just 5 receptions against Western Michigan.

Against Big Ten foes, Smith is averaging 86 yards and 4.5 receptions per game. As for the 6-foot-3 receiver continues to find his groove, expects these numbers to continue impressing.

Previewing Ohio State’s offense ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Oregon Ducks

Ohio State is going to bring in one of the best offenses in the country and will provide a huge test for the Ducks.

Oregon and Ohio State were in the same position this position. Both teams were looking for a quarterback to lead an offense full of dangerous weapons, including a group of receivers that is one of the best in the country.

Both teams landed a Big XII quarterback with the Ducks getting former Oklahoma Sooner Dillon Gabriel and the Buckeyes signing former Kansas State signal caller Will Howard.

The two quarterbacks have been very good for their respective teams. Howard has been very efficient for the Buckeyes as he has a 69 completion percentage to go with his eight touchdowns and just two interceptions for the season.

Predictably, Howard’s favorite targets, as they should be, are receivers Emeka Egbuka and true freshman Jeremiah Smith. Egbuka is one of the best receivers out there and should be a first-round NFL draft pick and Smith isn’t disappointing as a former No. 1 recruit.

Egbuka has 21 catches for 362 yards (90.5 ypg) to go with two touchdowns. Smith has shown he’s ready for the big time as he leads Ohio State with five touchdowns with his 19 receptions and 364 yards.

“They can catch the ball and they can turn into a big play right away. It’s not necessarily always their average depth of target is way down the field,” Oregon coach Dan Lanning said.. “It’s their ability to catch it in space and get vertical. They block really, really well on the perimeter. And those guys have big catch radius. So you see them win on balls that you can you call 50-50 balls. A lot of times they win on contested balls, they do a really good job there.”

What makes Ohio State’s offense so good is that opposing defenses can’t just concentrate on the passing game. Running backs Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson is a powerful 1-2 punch out of the backfield.

Judkins is averaging 97.5 yards a game and has scored five touchdowns, while Henderson is averaging nearly nine yards a carry and has scored four times.

Lanning says offensive coordinator Chip Kelly doesn’t get enough credit for the Buckeyes’ rushing game.

“I think he’s always done a great job of utilizing his personnel. Moving guys around and allowing them to do things that they do really, really well. He always finds unique ways to run the ball,” he said. “I think that’s one thing that he probably doesn’t get enough credit for is his ability to run the ball regardless of the situation. You know, he’s at UCLA last year, the number one rushing team in our conference for many reasons, and it’s because of his ability to run the ball.”

Ohio State has a big offensive line typical of most Big Ten teams. Each of them weigh over 300 pounds, led by senior guard Donovan Jackson. He was a First-Team All-Conference lineman in 2022.

Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith made another unbelievable 1-handed TD catch

This is becoming normal for Jeremiah Smith.

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is making a name for himself when it comes to one-handed catches, especially when each one seems like it should be in contention for catch of the year.

In Week 5 against Michigan State, the freshman reciever made two stellar one-handed catches, one for a touchdown. And Saturday in Week 6 against Iowa, Smith stepped up again and pulled in another one-handed touchdown this season.

With the No. 3 Buckeyes at first-and-goal in the third quarter with a 7-0 lead, quarterback Will Howard threw the ball to the back of the end zone where Smith was tangled with a Hawkeye defender but still managed to pull it down.

With the extra point, Smith helped put Ohio State up 14-0 at home.

Here’s a look at his unbelievable one-handed catches from last week against Michigan State:

WATCH: Jeremiah Smith makes jaw-dropping catch #GoBucks

Ohio State football is currently leading the Iowa Hawkeyes to the tune of 14-0 and although the offense started the game a bit slower than most would like it appears it has found its groove. After a few questionable decisions, quarterback, Will Howard threw a slightly underthrown ball to Jeremiah Smith to get into striking distance and then threw another pass immediately to the young freshman phenom for the touchdown.

Smith currently sits second on the team in receiving with three receptions for 80 yards and a touchdown and what touchdown it was. At this point, jaw-dropping catches are nothing new for Smith, but it’s still surprising to see every time.

Will Howard has had a less-than-ideal game, but still maintains an impressive stat line of completing 16 of 20 passing attempts for 155 yards and two touchdowns and only one interception. Howard ha also added some yards on the ground with seven carries for 27 yards. Check out the Jeremiah Smith catch below:

LeBron James takes notice of Jeremiah Smith’s ridiculous catches

The Ohio State Buckeyes didn’t just beat Michigan State, but they did so with a few unthinkable catches by Jeremiah Smith, which were noticed by LeBron James.

Jeremiah Smith was the No. 1 overall recruit for a reason, and with Ohio State football, he’s proving exactly why that is. One long-time Buckeyes supporter, LeBron James, took notice.

James is, as many would know, one of the best basketball players of all time and a multi-time MVP and Champion in the league. Had James gone to college, being from Ohio, the Buckeyes may have been a top contender.

Still keeping his eye on Ohio State football, James posted to X when Smith made a few insane one-handed catches. Those can be viewed here.

The 6-foot-2 Smith has been a key weapon for Kansas State transfer Will Howard. Smith didn’t have the most yards on the team Saturday. That was Emeka Egbuka and his 96 receiving yards.

However, Smith did have the more memorable catches en route to 83 receiving yards and one of the Buckeyes three receiving touchdowns. Smith is already being viewed as one of the most talented Buckeyes receivers in recent history.

Wowza #GoBucks

Wow! Jeremiah Smith might be even better than we thought. The freshman phenom has been spectacular through three games this season, but he may have just outdone himself. With Michigan State keeping things close, Smith has decided to take things into his own hands… make that take things into his own hand.

With under a minute left in the half, Smith made not one, but two one-handed catches leading to an Ohio State score! The first came with two Spartan defenders draped on Smith, who just seemed to elevate higher and pulled the catch down with one hand.

If that wasn’t enough, Smith made another unbelievable catch just moments later. With Will Howard sidelined after a hard hit, Devon Brown took the helm on third and ten. Brown dropped back and threw the ball in Smith’s direction and looked as if it was going to be out of reach until No. 4 stretched out his right hand and hauled in another one-handed catch, this time for the touchdown.

LeBron James wowed by Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith

How did Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith make this catch?

Ohio State played Michigan State in a Big Ten contest on Saturday.

The Buckeyes’ Jeremiah Smith made a one-hand grab that turned into a Buckeyes touchdown.

This will be a Catch of the Year candidate for sure.

LeBron James was impressed by the 17-yard reception.

WATCH: Ohio State with some trickery to extend lead at Michigan State in the first half

Razzle-Dazzle #GoBucks

The Ohio State football team is facing its first real test of the season as it opens Big Ten play at Michigan State. The Spartans have been playing about as well as they can and cut the lead to just three early in the second half. But the Buckeyes answered by marching down the field to extend the lead back to 10 points.

After gashing MSU for several big chunk running plays between TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, Chip Kelly called for some razzle-dazzle. Quarterback Will Howard faked the pitch to the running back then flipped the ball to Jeremiah Smith on the end around as he ran untouched into the endzone.

It was a thing of beauty. Give it a watch below.
