Alabama football kicks off the 2024 season in just 63 days!
In 63 days, Kalen DeBoer will usher in a new era of Alabama Crimson Tide football, replacing the legendary [autotag]Nick Saban[/autotag] as head coach in Tuscaloosa.
Coach DeBoer and the Crimson Tide will take on the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on Aug. 31 to kick off the 2024 college football season inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
At Roll Tide Wire, we will count down the days until Alabama football takes the field.
No. 63 hasn’t been a prevalent number as of late in Tuscaloosa. That said, we will go back a few years to look at a former Alabama player who wore No. 63, J.C. Hassenauer.
Hassenauer was a member of the Crimson Tide from 2014-17 where he was primarily a backup at guard and center for Alabama. Hassenauer went undrafted in the 2018 NFL draft but was on the practice squad of the New York Giants in 2023.
Hassenauer has played in a total of 45 NFL games while making seven starts.
We are only 63 days away from the start of Alabama’s 2023 football season.

Former Alabama offensive lineman JC Hassenauer and the New York Giants agreed to a deal in free agency. The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed at this time.
Hassenauer spent four seasons at Alabama. The Minnesota native played multiple positions along the Tide’s offensive line including offensive guard and center. He made starts in 2017 against Mercer, Auburn, and Georgia.
Hassenauer went undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft and signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He spent several months on the team’s practice squad before being waived.
He would go on to sign with the Birmingham Iron which was a team affiliated with the Alliance of American Football.
Following one season with the Iron, Hassenauer was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad. He went on to spend four seasons with the organization before becoming a free agent this offseason.
Now, Hassenauer will now re-unite with former Alabama teammate Xavier McKinney. He will likely compete for a starting spot at center during training camp.
Veteran center J.C. Hassenauer is signing with the Giants, per source. The former Steeler gives them another option at the position.
Hassenauer, Jack Anderson, Ben Bredeson and Shane Lemieux are the #giants current options at center pre-draft.
The return of college football is quickly approaching, folks. After yet another national championship winning season, Nick Saban and company will be looking for a repeat performance in 2021.
Despite key losses, the Crimson Tide is well positioned to do just that.
The opening week matchup is against the Miami Hurricanes in Atlanta, Ga. set for Sept. 4. And with it now being July 3, we are now only 63 days away from the start of the season!
No one is currently wearing the No. 63 for Alabama, but that could change in the future. There have been a few to wear the number in the past, however, including a few offensive linemen.
Former Tide reserve Kellen Williams was one of the first to wear it during the Nick Saban era, and J.C. Hassenauer rocked it soon after Williams.
Hassenauer went undrafted back in 2018, but he was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. After bouncing between the Steelers, Birmingham Iron in the AAF for a brief period and then the Atlanta Falcons in 2018, he’s back with the Steelers and might have the opportunity to start this season.

We are only 63 days from Alabama football kicking off its season against the USC Trojans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Alabama is set to kick off its season against the USC Trojans at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Sept. 5. As long as COVID-19 doesn’t alter the schedule, it will be the first time the Crimson Tide has faced USC since the dominant 52-6 win back in 2016.
With it being July 4, that means we’re only 63 days away from football season officially being back!
After coming up short of making its fifth-consecutive College Football Playoff appearance, Alabama will look to bounce back in 2020 with a strong roster and returning coaching staff.
As of right now, sophomore walk-on offensive lineman Rowdy Garza wears the No. 63 for the Crimson Tide. Prior to Garza, the number was worn by J.C. Hassenauer, who is now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers after a run with the Atlanta Falcons and AFL’s Birmingham Iron.
